HBO "The Final Year" ... by gimleteye

The emotion I felt, at the conclusion of the excellent HBO documentary "The Final Year", is in one word: "devastation".

I voted for Obama twice, but I found plenty to criticize in his two terms.

Still, "The Final Year" conveys his essential nature -- competence and caution -- qualities of character that stand in stark contrast to the wild and careening presidency of Donald Trump.

The HBO documentary that premiered last night is told mainly through two principal figures in the Obama administration: chief speechwriter and advisor, Ben Rhodes, and Samantha Powers, ambassador to the United Nations. Both convey the care and thoughtfulness absent from the current White House is ways that are shocking and unprecedented.

But these are one viewer's observations, not of the documentary or its makers.

Rather, "The Final Year" wrestles with the challenge of being an optimist and advocate for inclusiveness in an era lurching toward dark uncertainties, fear-mongering and creeping nationalism.

Samantha Powers puts the global emergencies -- of Syria, of crippled and impoverished African nations -- in the context of 65 million refugees around the world: the biggest crisis since the Second World War. Ben Rhodes emphasizes what he hopes will be the Obama legacy, like health care and the Paris Climate Accord.

To the very end, neither believed that in November 2016 the American voter would put targets on the back of these achievements.

What is devastating is to know, today, that the American voter didn't. Trump lost the popular vote by more than 3 million. He won the electoral college by the improbably thin margin of 80,000 in three states. We also know, today, that the influence of hostile, foreign actors like Russia on social media tipped the scales.

Of all the disparate pieces that add up to devastation, the one that most profoundly affected me is how the documentary conveyed Obama's massive achievement: he gave hope through an outreached hand to the dispossessed, the poor and the bereft.

There may be 65 million refugees on the march around the globe today, but the true number of oppressed is many times greater. Throughout our history, the United States represented hope and compassion. Today we see how fragile that capital is, how easily it is squandered, and how difficult it is to replace -- if it can be done at all -- by our allies.

Trump doesn't feature in the documentary until his appearance at the end, like a thunderclap. Obama, Rhodes, Powers: they are gone. Where we live, it is still thundering. That's what I felt, mostly, as the credits rolled on "The Final Year".

Trump Russia Collusion ... by gimleteye

It is turgid reading but useful to understand that Trump’s context is a Russia mafia woven into his businesses for many years. Donald Jr. publicly acknowledged the outsized influence and participation by Russians in real estate businesses bearing the Trump brand. He didn't say "mafia" or that the Russian mob always ties back to Putin. In one way or another, each Russian oligarch is a tentacle of the Putin octopus. The one that held Trump hit the jackpot by intelligent design.

At first Trump was a bit player and inattentive to fraud (laws are meant for OTHER people) as the Russian mob rooted itself in Brighton Beach in the 1980s. (I used to go to Tatiana’s back when the biggest Russia mob scam was fraudulent gasoline tax receipts and kickbacks.) It is 100 % that Putin has this same narrative in a Manila folder in his desk -- including sexcapades -- , told from Moscow Center’s point of view. That is the narrative, btw, that Mueller is recreating carefully and slowly according to US law. #MAGA

Stormy Daniels is fit to end the sonnet ... by gimleteye

UK Guardian Carole Caddwalldr just broke open the story of the Cambridge Analytica whistleblower. Click here, to read the story. This morning, Facebook banned the whistleblower.

Rupert Murdoch set the stage, long ago, with a profit model to extract billions by ginning up base emotions. Under Reagan, the Fairness Doctrine disappeared. Mark Zuckerburg weaponized Murdoch's model and helped put a mobbed-up grifter in the WH. Putin saw the opportunity most clearly, driving straight through social media to infiltrate the US elections. While federales were building TSA check points at airports to prevent another 9/11, Moscow Center copied a few data files, put a few 20 yr old computer nerds to work, and shattered liberal democracy. Stormy Daniels is fit to end the sonnet.

Things that should be illegal but aren't ... by gimleteye

Oh boy. The United States is in a grim fix, and no one can say it is for the lack of powerful voices calling for moral conduct, personal responsibility, or high-handed religiosity.

In American political life, a well-designed system of checks and balances should keep hypocrites from having the upper hand. There should be, as President Obama often noted, an arc of history that bends toward truth and light. With Donald Trump, we are far off that arc. (To read more, read the excellent weekly compilation by Amy Siskind, here.)

Miami plays out in this morass, importantly, through real estate transactions that use perfectly legal strategies to keep ownership concealed.

The top line story is the infiltration of Russia/ Putin in deforming free and fair elections; pushing the 2016 result to Trump.

The bottom line is the legal ability of shell corporations from Russia (and everywhere else) to influence decision-makers through real estate transactions.

Yesterday, the Miami Herald reported,
This Russian general fought the mob. Why does he own $38 million of Florida real estate?
BY NICHOLAS NEHAMAS, KEVIN G. HALL AND LILY DOBROVOLSKAYA
nnehamas@miamiherald.com
OCTOBER 20, 2017 6:00 AM

There is life after being one of Russia’s top crime fighters — and it can be very good.

Anatoly Petukhov gave up Moscow’s icy winters for the warm embrace of South Florida, where he’s amassed a $38 million portfolio of condos, office buildings and prime development sites, not to mention a 31-foot powerboat. Petukhov is part of a wave of wealthy Russian businessmen and officials washing up in Miami. The local real estate industry — always happy to take cash with few questions asked — has welcomed him since he arrived in 2010.

So how did Petukhov make his fortune?

The retired policeman, 59, refused repeated interview requests from the Miami Herald. His biography suggests he might have good reason for avoiding the spotlight: Petukhov served as a general in an elite law-enforcement unit dedicated to fighting organized crime. The task force was so corrupt — “the most criminalized structure within the police,” according to Louise Shelley, a professor at George Mason University — that it was reorganized and eventually shut down after a scandal involving its top official.

There has been plenty of press about the role of Russian money in Donald Trump's real estate empire. Eye On Miami noted a Reuters analysis of the significant number of Russian nationals who reported ownership in Trump South Florida properties and wrote at the time, "
Hiding financial assets is part of the rigged system that prevent Americans from understanding the true facts of the Trump/Russia connection."

In 2016, Miami real estate transactions were part of a limited Obama Treasury Department initiative to require disclosure -- as a test program -- of underlying ownership of limited liability corporations, frequently used to conceal the identity of owners. (At the time we called it, "the best news of 2016".)

The normalization of transactions between Russian money and undisclosed buyers and Miami real estate is central to understanding why Trump believes the Russia conspiracy to influence the 2016 election to be "FAKE". What Trump means is that it is no more illegal for a real estate developer to take advantage of Russian money, to float his developments, than it is for Facebook to allow its social media platform to be used as a campaign finance utility/ app.

Americans, irrespective of political party, should reflect on this question: do we really want to allow democracy to be spit roasted by anonymous real estate transactions and social media platforms that mix the profit motive with political power, from lowly county commissions to the highest office in the land, the White House? The characterization is true, and the answer is no.

It is well past time for Congress to lay down the law on things that should be illegal but aren't.

The Trump Resistance Begins January 15th. By Geniusofdespair

My Suggetions:
1. Do not turn on your TV on January 20th.
2. Boycott Amazon till they drop Alt-Right T Shirts. We need to target businesses. But call them and tell them why:

Amazon.com - Contact Us

You can reach Amazon service department at 1-888-280-3321 (choose Prime) Or try this link.  Have you  called Amazon yet you lazy bastards? Even Donald has disavowed the Alt-Right (the Alt Right are having their convention in Washington on the 19th of January and people attending have been warned not to do the Nazi salute).
WE MUST USE OUR BUYING POWER STRATEGICALLY WITH OUR LARGE NUMBERS. That is what we have over their heads.
"Resistance is futile"...maybe not.
Ten days from now, Donald Trump will be inaugurated president, and Republicans will have control of the federal government. The attacks on the American people have already started—with quick moves to repeal Obamacare, de-fund Planned Parenthood, and dissolve the the Office of Congressional Ethics.

This moment is about more than politics. It’s about decisions that will affect all of our lives and the consequences we will have to face if we don't resist this agenda with all our strength.

This coming Sunday, all across the country, MoveOn members and our key allies are hosting community meetings to talk about what resistance looks like on the local level and to make a plan for how we’ll keep our communities safe, defend our democracy, and resist the new administration every step of the way.

Some have considered modeling the resistance on the Tea Party playbook but that was a well-funded and very strategic campaign by the Koch Brothers.

And there's a meeting near you on SUNDAY!

Will you join the resistance and attend a Community Meeting to Resist Trump in Miami this Sunday?
Yes, sign me up to attend a Community Meeting to Resist Trump near me on Sunday, January 15.

We're partnering with the Working Families Party, People's Action, and United We Dream to coordinate these gatherings where we will do more than just talk. We'll form local working groups and plan concrete actions we can take over the next few weeks and months to build our power, defend our values, and resist.

People of all ages and backgrounds are rising up to organize over 450 community meetings in more than 40 states. Here’s are two that is happening near you on Sunday, I would do both:

Community meeting to resist Trump
Sunday, January 15, 2:00 PM
Barnacle State Historic Site
Miami, FL

Click here to RSVP and get the details.

AND:

Sunday, January 15 at 6 p.m. (local time)

We refuse to make him our president, and we are marching out on the streets to make our voices heard! The hate, the ridiculous eoconomic policies, the degradation of our natural resources has got to stop."
 ------------------------------------------------

To coincide with the women's march on Washington (I am going to that one), there will be local marches in big cities like New York and Miami. Ours is:

Open Letter To The Electoral College. Guest Blog By GraspingatStraws

To the Electoral College,

When you vote on Monday for the President of the United States of America, do the right thing: Go Rogue and Toss Trump.

Don’t vote for the bully, the misogynist, the one who makes fun of disabled people. Don’t vote for the one who can’t laugh at himself and instead, chooses to rant on Twitter in the early morning hours at enemies who just happen to disagree with him.

Don’t vote for the one who is setting up a cabinet made of millionaires and billionaires, the one whose cabinet will be made up of the least educated people in recent years. Don’t vote for the one who campaigned on “draining the swamp,” but instead is choosing people who are filling the swamp to make an ocean.

Don’t vote for the one who chose a vice president that believes that conversion therapy will “cure” gay people and abortion should be abolished even in the event of rape.

Don’t vote for the one who choose a Secretary of Treasury that was the chief information officer at Goldman Sachs, a Secretary of Energy who wanted to abolish the department when running for president, a Labor Secretary who won’t raise the minimum wage, a National Security Advisor who disclosed classified information to foreign officials without proper authorization, and a Secretary of State with strong ties to Russia.

Don’t vote for the one who asked the Department of Energy for a list of government employees who worked on climate change and whose head of the Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t believe in climate change.

Don’t vote for the one who hasn’t paid income taxes and won’t release his tax returns. What is he hiding?

Read transcripts of the debates and his press conferences. Don’t vote for the one who can’t answer a question or string a couple of sentences together that make sense.

There are many, many more reasons not to vote for this person. Don’t be a part of destroying our country. There is still time to avoid a disaster. You have the power. Do the right thing: Dump Trump.

Miami: At Heart and Soul of Florida's Bizzaro World. By Geniusofdespair

Bizarro World - where Superman does misdeeds because everything is turned upside down and backwards. Yes, Bizarro is a real place: Called Htrae in comic books, a.k.a. Miami.

You really couldn't make this stuff up.

Michael B. Fernandez, staunch Republican and also a billionaire (who isn't?),  is placing full-page ads in the Miami Herald against the Republican candidate for President. He has been taking a lot of heat for his stand against Trump and his support of Clinton.  And then you have Don Soffer (Turnberry, Aventura Mall), Democrat, placing full page ads for Donald Trump. The battle of the billionaires. Hey fellows, do you really think the ads help? If I were you guys, I would give the money to me and I will write whatever you want.

By the way, I watched whatever it was they had on air last night with Matt Lauer. Hillary was at her best. Finally she gave up that shrill voice and spoke with authority. Trump was asked not to criticize the other candidate, however, that was all he did through criticism of Obama. I thought Trump got off easy and so did the New York Times:
“Lauer interrupted Clinton’s answers repeatedly to move on. Not once for Trump,” Norman Ornstein, the political commentator, wrote in a Twitter message, adding: “Tough to be a woman running for president.” and:

The criticism captured what has become a common complaint about media coverage during this election: that news organizations and interviewers treat Mrs. Clinton as a serious candidate worthy of tough questions, while Mr. Trump is sometimes handled more benignly.

Mr. Lauer did manage to extract several head-turning statements from Mr. Trump. He confronted Mr. Trump with a crass Twitter message from 2013 in which the future candidate suggested that sexual assaults in the military were a logical result of men and women serving together. “It is a correct tweet,” Mr. Trump said.

When Mr. Lauer asked if Mr. Trump actually believed he knew more about the Islamic State than American generals, the candidate replied: “The generals have been reduced to rubble.”
Oh, I am reopening my Stop-O Marco/Rubio Sucks campaign. Please give it some sugar, Marco loves big sugar donations.

Donald Trump In Context: The Cultural Revolution ... by gimleteye

"I am your voice", Donald Trump proclaimed to the world from a stage last night, the final night of the Republican National Convention. His dark, apocalyptic speech was from the grammar of a cult and evoked memories of another time and revolution: China under Chairman Mao.

The words that follow, "I am your voice", are: "If you don't listen to me, you will be punished." Mao, the autocrat, feared attack from all directions. The Little Red Book, filled with his aphorisms, served as a way to congeal ideology like a hardened shield.

The GOP has devolved into a political party that uses the Constitution as the same hardened shield as the Little Red Book: to rigidly enforce orthodoxies that guarantee corporate power under protections of individual freedom. Trump had the gut instinct to take the shield and make it his own.

Mao fit the mold of empire. And Trump does, too, in the unacknowledged change of the American experience. Still, we never had a candidate from a major political party so unqualified to be president. Trump has no experience in formation of public policy, he has never served in public office, and his record in business is mainly successful by gaming contractual relationships.

His was an narrow way to wealth, but it fits the thin keyhole that is today's Republican Party.

American voters will punish a party whose ideas have run out of gas except as a vehicle for the nation's largest polluting industries. The United States will not vote the cult of Donald Trump for president.

Trump Ratchets Up GOP Hostility To Science ... by gimleteye

A week of disarray in the Donald Trump camp showed the candidate driving his campaign from one point of antagonism to another, playing hop-scotch on grievances of angry white males.

In doing so, Trump is exposing a deep Republican mistrust of science. In California, he proclaimed to farmers, "there is no drought", which must have come as a great relief to them buckling under the impacts of the worst drought in hundreds of years.

Trump is also mouthing off against the science of climate change, pandering to a host of Republican preferences for fossil fuels.

Click on the link, to see how the USGS interprets recorded temperature changes and projects the future of a planet too hot even for Donald Trump:

This animated spiral portrays the simulated changes in the global averaged monthly air temperature from 1850 through 2100 relative to the 1850 - 1900 average. The temperature data are from Community Climate System (CCSM4) global climate model maintained by the National Center for Atmospheric Research. The simulation is for the IPCC Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5 (RCP8.5) emission scenario. RCP8.5 is the most aggressive scenario in which green house gases continue to rise unchecked through the end of the century, leading to an equivalent of about 1370 ppm CO2, which is roughly four times the concentration at present. The CCSM4 simulation is part of the 5th Climate Model Intercomparison Program (CMIP5) and the data can be downloaded at https://pcmdi.llnl.gov/projects/cmip5/. The 21st century animations are an extension of the graphic (http://www.climate-lab-book.ac.uk/2016/spiralling-global-temperatures/) for the 1850-2010 observed air temperature created by E. Hawkins at Reading University, UK.

The Donald Trump Blizzard of 2016, Rubio, Bush and Climate Change ... by gimleteye

Marco Rubio is joking about climate change. Jeb Bush says it's not on the list of things that keep him awake at night. They say climate change is "a distant threat". Both candidates,  raising hundreds of millions from corporate America, presumably have the needs of business foremost in mind.

A recent report by the UK Guardian casts that presumption in doubt. The World Economic Forum, about to meet in Davos Switzerland, puts climate change in first place among threats to the world economy in 2016. The first time that happened. Apparently, Rubio and Bush haven't gotten the news in their daily clippings file.

The GOP candidates for president are too busy chasing Donald Trump for whom climate change is a problem to solve like walling off Mexico. Climate change is like that wall Mexico will pay for when he is elected president because that's what tough negotiators do.

More accurately, they are chasing the supporters of Donald Trump. As David Frum recently discussed in his provocative essay for The Atlantic, "The Great Republican Revolt", those supporters are primarily angry, white males without a college education who have trended to vote Republican even though the historical record is clear: Republican priorities -- favoring large corporations and corporate power -- have put the lower middle class in the greatest jeopardy since the Great Depression.

The US economy may be doing OK, Frum writes, but those male Republican voters are decidedly not. They want their country back. They want their status back. That's what Donald Trump is promising with a Tweet-based campaign for the hearts and minds of the greatest country on earth whose national and state politics are in deep, deep denial how climate change could quickly unravel safety and security of all Americans.

Donald Trump has overtaken the Republican Party's plan to insert another anodyne candidate like George W. Bush into the White House. Trump is channeling the Tea Party revolt of 2008, that was itself effectively usurped by mainstream Koch-backed American Crossroads and other conservative political accounts. This year the revolt of angry, white males is like a river overflowing its banks. Trump supporters will not be placated by the GOP's corporate boosterism, in part because they do see the impacts of climate change all around them. They see, but they don't see.

After all, the deepest of the Red States are most affected by severe weather. This is not, as Ted Cruz imagines, the effect of being "beaten into submission by the progressive left". Climate chaos is the deepest threat to the stability that Donald Trump supporters crave, and it is the one being pushed hardest and furthest away. If the World Economic Forum is right -- and this is where the world's largest corporations go for intelligence -- climate change impacts are at the doorstep in 2016.

The Washington Post reported this morning on mass die-offs of species, being observed around the world: "Mass Mortality Events (MMEs) are “rarely placed in a broader context,” the study’s authors reported. But they seem to be happening at an increased rate for birds, marine invertebrates and fish since the 1940s — even when researchers took into account that such events are more likely to be reported now than they were 75 years ago. These die-offs matter not just because of the inherent value of the creatures involved, the authors said, but because whole ecosystems may depend on that species to survive. MMEs, they wrote, “can reshape the ecological and evolutionary trajectories of life on Earth."

This is clearly not news that Donald Trump supporters care to hear; and so, the Trump blizzard of 2016.

Sentient Republicans should carefully weigh the benefits of control of Congress and the White House, not to mention state legislatures and executive offices, against the threat of mass extinction. Because there is no evidence of that happening, judged by the quality of the GOP presidential primary debates, the rest of American voters -- that includes Democrats -- are going to have to get out to vote in 2016.

Corporate America is not in denial about climate change. It is just furiously at work locking down prerogatives before being overtaken by the exceedingly long winter of climate change.

On Civilian Obedience, Optimism and Delamination of Promise... by gimleteye

Here is a question that I, in my sixties, find myself asking more and more often: how to inform younger generations about the complexity of seemingly intractable problems without either miring audiences in pessimism or false optimism?

Over a summer weekend, a very good friend used a word to describe the zeitgeist to which the question applies: "delamination".

In his spare time, my friend is a woodworker. Since so much of what we value -- take the environment, our air and water and God's creatures -- is held together by glue, delamination aptly describes the pressures tearing these apart. (I'll skip over the fact that industrial glues are held together by formaldehyde, whose manufacture is a key part of the Koch Brothers' industrial empire.)

A certain pessimism goes along with being sixty one.

False optimism is different matter. Another friend, a coral reef activist, pessimist and scientist, wrote recently. First he offered the following from a news report quoting a colleague of his: "Five years ago I couldn’t have looked at you and said we can restore the coral reefs in our life time. Now we can say in our life time, in our lifetime, we can restore these coral reefs." My friend then asked, "Does this kind of thing hurt or help??" knowing full well how the world's coral reefs are under full assault by acidic oceans, a consequence of rapid climate change.

I thought this weekend, again, of false optimism while reading the Miami Herald report about a loose coalition of civic groups organized under the banner of "Engage Miami", fighting to put a new public park on Parcel B, next to the Miami Heat Arena; the promise of a park that county decision makers made in 1996 then promptly broke as soon as the professional basketball arena was built. The image that stuck with me: how a rainstorm at the event washed away the chalk signage earnestly calling for the new park nearly soon as civil obedience was completed.

My coral reef scientist friend, and many of my Everglades warrior friends, would ask "Imagine Miami"; what's the point of false optimism? We have a sixteen year record of delaminated promises, and if the decimation of the coral reef isn't clear enough, how about today's report of ten foot stacks of decaying seaweed at the shoreline across the Caribbean?

If I worked for a newspaper, where selling readers on investing in the next edition was the main goal of the enterprise, views such as "we are so FUBAR" (fucked up beyond all belief)" would be instantly dismissed. But I don't.

All around us, nothing is as usual and yet we are going about business as usual everywhere. False optimism manifests in the political realm, too.

Oddest is Donald Trump's emergence like a first wife from the third wife's wedding cake as the Republican response -- this presidential election cycle -- to delamination within the GOP.

Republican civilians are restless and not inclined to party obedience. Party insiders are optimistic that the Trump phenomenon is mainly about television ratings and the genius of the Rupert Murdoch/ Fox News empire. But the delamination is real and not humpty-dumpty or Karl Rove can put the pieces back together again.

At least so far.

Stinking mats of seaweed piling up on Caribbean beaches

Children play as their mother keeps an eye on them at a beach heavily covered with seaweed in the east coast town of Humacao, Puerto Rico, Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015. The picture-perfect beaches and turquoise waters that people expect on their visits to the Caribbean are increasingly being fouled by decaying seaweed that attracts biting sand fleas and smells like rotten eggs.

Miami Dade County needs to de-couple from Donald Trump's Doral and the Cadillac Championship ... by gimleteye

Since Mayor Carlos Gimenez is not exactly stepping forward to separate from Donald Trump, it is time for the county commission to provide decisive leadership: if we won't reject Trump completely, make his Miami-Dade enterprises pay full freight for services they receive gratis from police and fire protection and other departments. This isn't rocket science. A simple slap on the hand is not enough for Mr. Trump who seems to be cultivating the John Birch Society branch of the Republican Party. Why isn't Miami-Dade County on the list of municipalities, like NYC, that have already taken steps in the same direction. What's taking so long?

Miami Dade County's GOP is silent on Donald Trump: why? No respect for Hispanics? ... by gimleteye

Miami Dade County's GOP is failing the Trump-Latino-Test. Why? This is, after all, the city in the great state of Florida that defines Hispanic identity. And yet, leaders like Miami-Dade mayor Carlos Gimenez have been silent on Donald Trump.

Frank Sharry, executive director of immigration advocacy group America’s Voice, put it succinctly to the LA Times: "(he) said he was surprised that GOP leaders have not come out more strongly against (Trump's) statement."

The statement being the GOP candidate for president was sick of Mexico "... sending people [to the US] that have lots of problems, and they are bringing those problems to us. They are bringing drugs, and bringing crime, and their rapists.” Trump, sizing up his audience, also called on Mexico to fund the building of a "great wall" along the southern border to prevent the supposed influx of Mexican criminals to the US.

“Can you imagine if he was talking about Jews? African Americans?” Sharry said. (EOM: What about Cuban?) “Would the GOP stand up? Of course they would. ... But the silence of the GOP on this is defining the party.”

Mayor Gimenez enjoys his time with Donald Trump on the golf course and others close to the mayor would rather be comped at Doral than raise an eyebrow. And by silence on Trump, the truth comes in in two flavors: either they hate Latinos themselves or just Mexicans.

There is a third possibility: that Trump's ethnic baiting cannot go unanswered in Miami-Dade. The County Commission's condemnation is not enough.

In that case, Mayor Gimenez, if you can't fire Donald Trump from the Trump National Doral Golf Club and the Cadillac Championship of Golf, make him pay the free market rate for services Miami-Dade County provides gratis. And next time he asks you to a round of golf, tell him: "Not While I'm In Public Office."
No dogs or Mexicans allowed unless it's working on the golf course.

Mayor Carlos Gimenez and Racism: whose side are you on? ... by gimleteye

Mayor Carlos Gimenez must not waste another day before severing the county's ties with Donald Trump, quickly fired by Univision and NBC for blatantly racist comments during his presidential campaign kick-off. By his silence, it is clear Gimenez prefers rubbing shoulders with Trump than spending a moment considering whether Trump feels the same way about Haitians, Guatemalans, Columbians or Venezuelans. Or Cubans. In Miami-Dade, we don't do business with racists. Stand up for what you believe in, Mr. Mayor. Thanks for Commissioner Levine Cava for raising the issue:

Univision does to Trump what corporate advertisers ought to do, to Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch, every day ... by gimleteye

Donald Trump is a ridiculous human being judging his public persona. One wants to be careful about name calling, because God knows we all qualify at some point for having our efforts at being meaningful hung out to dry. Public figures, though, are different cats.

It is in the public realm that Donald Trump is ridiculous, and he is a candidate for the GOP nomination for president and he did make offensive, racist comments against the Mexican people in his first media appearance as candidate.
In response to his ethnic baiting, the Spanish-language broadcaster -- Univision -- made an appropriate decision to block Trump as a corporate content provider from its network. (Trump is part owner of the Miss Universe franchise.) In return, Trump blocked Univision executives from his golf club adjacent to Univision headquarters in Doral. In return, the Univision CEO posted an Instagram photo showing Trump side-by-side America's latest racist standard-bearer and mass murderer, Dylann Roof.

For all Trump's ridiculous-ness, his race and ethnic baiting triggered a response by a media giant that deserves closer reflection by corporate advertisers because the same appeal to gut reflexes like race-baited fear is what animates Fox News, Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes, his Josef Goebbels.

Fox News "commentators" are run by Ailes. They are his versions of Trump only screened through focus groups and market testing. Ailes makes sure his on-air shock troops are quick-witted enough to avoid rolling public condemnation (as opposed to the biting, nipping commentary of The Daily Show and Jon Stewart and the blogs). Their effect is the same as Trump: they stir fear and anxiety for personal advantage, power and fortune.

Trump's coif is doctored as Fox's "Fair and Balanced".

Corporate advertisers should recognize that the goading, simmering fear and anxiety underlying Fox News commentators is harmful to their brands and harmful to America. If they did, they would abandon Fox the way Univision abandoned Trump.

Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch are both too savvy to allow their talking heads to cross the line from fear mongering to overt race and ethnic baiting (the way Donald Trump did). Viewers need to find ways to send corporate advertisers the news: we do not approve your messages to America.

GO HOME DONALD TRUMP you skunk. by Geniusofdespair

Comb-Over Donald. Don't let him near the public. Ask Doral Residents that surround the Golf Course.

I still can't see but I am mad as hell. I can see enough to read one article and this made me mad as hell.  Donald Trump has no business with the public. Nothing public.  He f--ked the people surrounding the Doral Golf Course -- who are the public.  If he has so little regard for the public why do we want to give him a public course to make a private course.  He wants to cut OUR mangroves to boot. I can't see so I am giving you the Herald's take:

Rules tied to the settlement of a 1988 court challenge by heirs of the Matheson family, which once owned the land, ban anything that hints at commercial ventures at Crandon. That includes outside operators as well as sponsor signs, a must for pro golf tournaments. Bruce Matheson, who sits on the Crandon review board, essentially holds veto power over changes. Pointing to Crandon’s favorable reviews, Matheson recently said to The Miami Herald: “Why do you need Donald Trump?”

The Miami Open Tennis tournament from Crandon’s tennis operation is suing to invalidate Matheson’s authority at the park, so a court victory on that front could mean a big win for Trump, too. Russo said he’s confident about maneuvering through both the existing Crandon rules and the environmental regulations governing the 20-foot tall mangroves that surround most of Crandon.  (Genius: The height of arrogance)

If Trump “can’t get the 450 yards of mangroves reduced to 4 feet high so the Miami Skyline can be seen along [hole] Number 18, there will be no deal,” Parks Director Jack Kardys wrote in a May 6 email to an aide.
Are they for real? And worse, Mayor Carlos Gimenez is trying to rush this through when he recused himself because his son is lobbying for the skunk. This sucks, comb-over Don the skunk sucks. Go back to New York you twit. We don't need you or want you ripping us off. We have enough people from New York doing that.

Picture of the Day. By Geniusofdespair

The Batesman and the Donald (Trump is intent on making Doral Residents miserable)
Read about the Bateman's in today's Miami Herald saying that the former Mayor (who was convicted) and his wife reaped $200,000 from favor seekers. Homestead always gets to the top of the news ladder.

Donald Trump Sucks: Screwing Neighbors. By Geniusofdespair

Donald Trump: He doesn't appear to care about his neighbors in Doral.

Doral golf course owner Donald Trump is blocking the long time views of the golf course by residents with Areca Palms leaving residents without light and views and diminished property values.

The high growing trees (they are classified as trees and grow over 20 feet and 8 to 10 feet in diameter) are being planted up against the people's units property line blocking their light and view.  Donald Trump has left the people weighing their option of selling out their communities to highrise developers.

Donald Trump is a greedy bastard in my opinion. He should agree to buy the land so he has control on what is built instead of screwing the homeowners who were already there.  He has this illusion that like in other States, golf courses should have no development around them. You can't do this in Florida as housing always surrounded golf courses.  Golf Courses standing alone has never been the case in Florida so Donal Trump has to wall off the public.
Hiding houses in plain sight built in the middle of your course, a selfish thing to do.

He deserves high rises that he can't hide rather than low rises that he is essentially  destroying homeowner's quality of life, people that never hurt him.  Homeowners  bought their homes under the assumption they would have lovely views.  Instead the government of Doral is paying Donald Trump $2.5 million dollars to stage a beauty pageant at the golf course. Now how stupid is that. Giving tax money collected from golf course folks to one of the guy that is screwing them, one of the richest guys in the US. It is salt in the wound.

Keep the Donald out of Miami. He is not worth it.   TV Channel 10 captured the situation on camera.   Maybe the people will picket during his beauty pageant, Miss Universe.  The embattled mayor of Doral, Luigi Boria, is taking a lot of heat for the money promised Donal Trump, betraying the people who put him in office over the carpetbagger Trump. Be sure to watch the video. One lady said they should get their guns and their ammo and go after Trump.

Donald Trump doesn't appear to care about the people who want to look at a promised vista - they paid handsomely for the view - instead they look at a wall of tightly planted shrubs. Who wasn't sold their unit on  the promise of a golf course view?
