Senator John McCain May Be Losing His Life to Brain Cancer, But Did It Help Him Find His Heart. By Geniusofdespair

“I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal. I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried. Nor could I support it without knowing how much it will cost, how it will affect insurance premiums, and how many people will be helped or hurt by it. Without a full CBO score, which won’t be available by the end of the month, we won’t have reliable answers to any of those questions.

“I take no pleasure in announcing my opposition. Far from it. The bill’s authors are my dear friends, and I think the world of them. I know they are acting consistently with their beliefs and sense of what is best for the country. So am I.

“I hope that in the months ahead, we can join with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to arrive at a compromise solution that is acceptable to most of us, and serves the interests of Americans as best we can.”

John McCain's Prognosis: Because they keep returning, glioblastomas are almost never cured, and the prognosis is poor. With treatment, the median survival — which means half of patients live longer than this, and half die sooner — is 12 to 18 months.

Senator John McCain had the integrity to say this when running against Senator Obama:

John McCain is a decent man.

McCain spent more than 5 years as a prisoner of war in Viet Nam.

Donald Trump said of John McCain being a war hero: 'I like people who weren't captured.' Only a hateful man would say this.

John McCain's Account of his Captivity in Viet Nam:

...the guards, who were all in the room—about 10 of them—really laid into me. They bounced me from pillar to post, kicking and laughing and scratching. After a few hours of that, ropes were put on me and I sat that night bound with ropes. Then I was taken to a small room. For punishment they would almost always take you to another room where you didn't have a mosquito net or a bed or any clothes. For the next four days, I was beaten every two to three hours by different guards. My left arm was broken again and my ribs were cracked.

The date was Oct. 26, 1967. I was on my 23rd mission, flying right over the heart of Hanoi in a dive at about 4,500 feet, when a Russian missile the size of a telephone pole came up—the sky was full of them—and blew the right wing off my Skyhawk dive bomber. It went into an inverted, almost straight-down spin.

I pulled the ejection handle, and was knocked unconscious by the force of the ejection—the air speed was about 500 knots. I didn't realize it at the moment, but I had broken my right leg around the knee, my right arm in three places, and my left arm. I regained consciousness just before I landed by parachute in a lake right in the corner of Hanoi, one they called the Western Lake. My helmet and my oxygen mask had been blown off.

I hit the water and sank to the bottom. I think the lake is about 15 feet deep, maybe 20. I kicked off the bottom. I did not feel any pain at the time, and was able to rise to the surface. I took a breath of air and started sinking again. Of course, I was wearing 50 pounds, at least, of equipment and gear. I went down and managed to kick up to the surface once more. I couldn't understand why I couldn't use my right leg or my arm. I was in a dazed condition. I went up to the top again and sank back down. This time I couldn't get back to the surface. I was wearing an inflatable life-preserver-type thing that looked like water wings. I reached down with my mouth and got the toggle between my teeth and inflated the preserver and finally floated to the top.

Some North Vietnamese swam out and pulled me to the side of the lake and immediately started stripping me, which is their standard procedure. Of course, this being in the center of town, a huge crowd of people gathered, and they were all hollering and screaming and cursing and spitting and kicking at me.

When they had most of my clothes off, I felt a twinge in my right knee. I sat up and looked at it, and my right foot was resting next to my left knee, just in a 90-degree position. I said, "My God--my leg!" That seemed to enrage them —I don't know why. One of them slammed a rifle butt down on my shoulder, and smashed it pretty badly. Another stuck a bayonet in my foot. The mob was really getting up-tight.

About this time, a guy came up and started yelling at the crowd to leave me alone. A woman came over and propped me up and held a cup of tea to my lips, and some photographers took some pictures. This quieted the crowd down quite a bit. Pretty soon, they put me on a stretcher, lifted it onto a truck, and took me to Hanoi's main prison. I was taken into a cell and put on the floor. I was still on the stretcher, dressed only in my skivvies, with a blanket over me.

For the next three or four days, I lapsed from conscious to unconsciousness. During this time, I was taken out to interrogation—which we called a "quiz"—several times. That's when I was hit with all sorts of war-criminal charges. This started on the first day. I refused to give them anything except my name, rank, serial number and date of birth. They beat me around a little bit. I was in such bad shape that when they hit me it would knock me unconscious. They kept saying, "You will not receive any medical treatment until you talk."

I didn't believe this. I thought that if I just held out, that they'd take me to the hospital. I was fed small amounts of food by the guard and also allowed to drink some water. I was able to hold the water down, but I kept vomiting the food.

They wanted military rather than political information at this time. Every time they asked me something, I'd just give my name, rank and serial number and date of birth.

I think it was on the fourth day that two guards came in, instead of one. One of them pulled back the blanket to show the other guard my injury. I looked at my knee. It was about the size, shape and color of a football. I remembered that when I was a flying instructor a fellow had ejected from his plane and broken his thigh. He had gone into shock, the blood had pooled in his leg, and he died, which came as quite a surprise to us—a man dying of a broken leg. Then I realized that a very similar thing was happening to me.

When I saw it, I said to the guard, "O.K., get the officer." An officer came in after a few minutes. It was the man that we came to know very well as "The Bug." He was a psychotic torturer, one of the worst fiends that we had to deal with. I said, "O.K., I'll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital." He left and came back with a doctor, a guy that we called "Zorba," who was completely incompetent. He squatted down, took my pulse. He did not speak English, but shook his head and jabbered to "The Bug." I asked, "Are you going to take me to the hospital?" "The Bug" replied, "It's too late." I said, "If you take me to the hospital, I'll get well."

"Zorba" took my pulse again, and repeated, "It's too late." They got up and left, and I lapsed into unconsciousness.

Sometime later, "The Bug" came rushing into the room, shouting, "Your father is a big admiral; now we take you to the hospital."

I tell the story to make this point: There were hardly any amputees among the prisoners who came back because the North Vietnamese just would not give medical treatment to someone who was badly injured—they weren't going to waste their time. For one thing, in the transition from the kind of life we lead in America to the filth and dirt and infection, it would be very difficult for a guy to live anyway. In fact, my treatment in the hospital almost killed me.

I Hope Nate Silver's 538 is wrong on Patrick Murphy. By Geniusofdespair

Who in Florida could be dumb enough to vote for Marco Rubio? This is a composite of polls weighted by a former Sports Odds maker. This is the chance of winning, not the poll numbers.

The Saga of Lauren Book and Senate District 38 is up for grabs without Gwen Margolis in the race. By Geniusofdespair

State Senate District 38 - Senator Margolis recently resigned from running.

State Senators Races in our area:

Bullard is in trouble...

CHARLIE CRIST RUNNING RUNNING FOR U.S. REP IN DISTRICT 13. I must live under a rock since he has been registered since January and I didn't even know.

FINALLY,  FLORIDA U.S. SENATE RACE HAS TURNED INTO A FREE-FOR-ALL WITH 32 PEOPLE ON THE LIST: (And Marco Rubio said today he wants to add his name to the list because of the mass shooting in Orlando? Doesn't compute. He favors no gun control and Florida's law: shoot first, say you were threatened later. And ask around about his history on gays. How is this tragedy his inspiration to run?)

I looked at one Florida Senate campaign report. Ron's daughter, Lauren Book has raised $553,159 for a State Senate race, or should I say Ron raised the money. Too bad Ron Book is so incompetent at raising private money for Lauren's charity, he goes after PUBLIC DOLLARS for that. Why are we financing Lauren's Kids? I have my own charities I like to fund, I don't like my charities chosen for me by a stupid lobbyist. Still working out of Ron's Office, Lauren spent $5,000 for Claire Vansusteren, also in Ron's Office for "campaign support". She works as communications director for Lauren's Kids. Why do they keep mixing funds in that office? She also spent $500 for hair and make-up. She is a pretty young woman, $500? What in the world did they do to her? I think that is a bit excessive.

As to the $5,000 paid to Claire from the campaign, in an article Written in May Vansusteren describes herself as a VOLUNTEER for Lauren's campaign. Hey the 3 of you: WAKE UP! Volunteers don't get paid!

The Most Interesting Candidate For U.S. Senate From Florida: Josh Larose. By Geniusofdespair

I wrote about Josh Larose in 20011 when he ran for Mayor of Miami Dade County. At that time he opened about 100 Political Action Committees in Miami Dade County which totally f--ked up the PAC/ECO page at elections making it difficult to search.

I called the phone number on his qualifying papers: They said it was a wrong number. It took them a while to decide (two men). I asked for Josh and they said yes. Then they asked me who I was, then they decided it was a wrong number. It was the right number when I read it back to them but then they said they just got the number yesterday. The address Josh gives is a post office box. I don't understand how he could register for anything since he has over $500,000 in fines levied against him. But, he is running for U.S. Senator according to the State of Florida website.

From Politico: ‘SUPER PAC MAN’ RETURNS:

A Florida man named Joshua (aka Josue) Larose registered three new super PACs purporting to represent big corporate interests.

Larose is also registered as a Democratic candidate for Senate.

Last cycle for serially registering PACs, flooding state and federal regulators and racking up more than 2,000 counts of violating election laws, with more than $2 million in potential fines. He didn’t respond to requests for comments.

Larose filed false campaign reports for more than 300 political committees he formed for non-existent associations of supermodels, billionaires, Catholics, boxers — and more.
Despite the penalty and being dubbed “the PAC Man” by media, Larose, remains a perennial Florida candidate. He’s back running as a Democrat for U.S. Senate

Josue Larose is a political organizer from Deerfield Beach, Florida. He has formed over 41 political parties, at least 60 Super PACs, and at least 340 state political action committees.

He is actually searchable on the Federal Election Commission website
Three people "Like" his Facebook Page. Is it all a joke? No, it is just Florida, where wacky people flourish.

Well, I guess you know who I will be voting for U.S. Senator: Josh Larose - THE PAC MAN, possibly worse than Marco Rubio...most probably. I think yes, there is someone worse than Marco for the Senate.

Florida Wingnut Running for U.S. Senate. By Geniusofdespair

I am not talking about Michele Bachmann who wants to drill for oil and natural gas in the Everglades and believes God is punishing us with weather. That wingnut is running for President not the Senate.

Marielena Montesino de Stuart (yes, 'de Stuart') is a Republican running for Bill Nelson's Senate seat. What she basically says on her website is...well...nothing but she does include a lot of talking points she put in her own words, a big mistake. Abortion appears to be her big issue.

In her own words, I added the titles:

PATRIOTIC: Every time I look at our beautiful flag and place my hand over my heart for the Pledge of Allegiance and sing our National Anthem, I am reminded of our nation’s promise to all her citizens – as the land of the free and the home of the brave.

ANTI-BIG GOVERNMENT: America stands at the raw edge of a great precipice. We see an ever expanding impersonal government that spends money it does not have, and passes laws that are blind to the Law-Giver. It is devouring all that is good and honorable.

ECONOMICS: I pledge to do my utmost to take any and all actions directed at curbing this nation’s current fiscal crisis. I will strive to articulate the economic needs of Floridians within the framework of a smaller government that supports private sector growth, job creation and lower taxes.

ANTI-CHOICE, MAYBE ANTI-GAY MARRIAGE TOO: The family, which is the building block and foundation for a civilized society—is under attack. The family existed from man’s beginning– before the creation of the State and the Church. We need to support legislation that is pro-family– and vigorously oppose legislation that endangers the family.

To date, 50 million Americans have been surgically aborted and millions more have died by chemical abortifacients and devices. Do we really want to continue this systematic destruction of our future citizens while the push for euthanasia of the elderly and the infirmed becomes ever more aggressive? To be for abortion, is to be against your own survival. Please note that the above figures do not include the millions of human embryos who have been destroyed in pseudo-scientific programs involving human stem cell research and IVF programs.

I guess Marco Rubio might vote for her. If she wins we would have two Cuban Senators who agree on just about everything. I don't think Republicans will embrace her, not with 10 Pub candidates running for this Senate seat.

Florida Senate Race For Democrats, Headed for a Crash and Burn. By Geniusofdespair

Urban Dictionary: Crash and burn - Phrase meaning to have a spectacular failure.

Florida Democratic party leaders are idiots. Kendrick Meek should never have been the candidate of choice. Meek for the Senate race, if the polls are right, has brought us down to not just a projected loss but a crash and burn. Stop-O-Marco is going to win because of this colossal mistake. We all wouldn't have forsaken the party for Crist if there were a decent candidate. At least you can say one thing in favor of Democrats: We would never vote for a man like Scott. We wouldn't even vote for Meek and he is a thousand times better than Rick Scott.

It is not too late, if only Dems would go out and vote in massive numbers for Crist and Sink. Dems: Meek is going down in flames don't waste your vote on principle. Vote smart.

Florida Senate Polling Numbers. By Geniusofdespair

Here is a comparison of some of the polls on the Senate Race. If some of you are holding onto to your absentee ballots waiting for Meek's polling numbers to pass up Crist's...you might miss the election. If you add Meek's numbers to Crist's you get some pretty competitive polling, with the Mason Dixon poll, Rubio would be a loser by 6 points. President Obama, please see if you can find a job for Kendrick Meek to entice him out of this race so the Tea Party Candidate, Marco Rubio, doesn't win. Meek was so insulted by the Sierra Club's double endorsement of he and Crist, that he refused to accept it. In this case, I am afraid, the Meek will not inherit the earth.

Florida Democrats: you have to get out and vote ... by gimleteye

The blogsphere is filled with opinions why Democrats won't vote in November. It would be a big, big mistake in Florida where the Jeb Bush stand-in, Marco Rubio, could be elected to represent the "new" face of the GOP. The corporate sponsored Tea Party and related 527's are rushing Rubio forward in Florida. So who to vote for? The crazy scary 538 Blog in The New York Times gives Kendrick Meek a shocking 1.3 percent chance to win. So if you are Democrat and understand the cost of Marco Rubio in the US Senate, you have no choice but vote for Charlie Crist on November 2nd. You also have no choice but to vote for Amendment 4, to change the Florida constitution giving voters a direct chance to participate in changes to local development plans. Florida Hometown Democracy is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Floridians to express their opinion on the pattern of suburban sprawl that pulled Floridians down during this economic recession. Vote for Amendment 4 to break up the corrupt relationship between local city and county commissions and their big campaign contributors from the Growth Machine. They ran the economy off the rails: Marco Rubio is their guy.

Miami Herald: I am guilty, I voted for Mike McCalister. By Geniusofdespair

Today in the Miami Herald, reporter John Frank speculated on how Mike McCalister got 10% of the Republican primary vote. He said:

One of the most intriguing questions to emerge from Tuesday's election results was: Who is Mike McCalister?

"The third wheel in the hotly contested Republican primary for governor took a whopping 10 percent of the vote -- whopping because he didn't run a single advertisement, barely registered in any poll and spent less than $8,000 on his campaign. The answer: a spoiler."

Don't think so, he was the ONLY choice Miami Herald. I voted for McCalister because McCullough did a right hand turn at the end. Even though I think he would help the Everglades, I couldn't vote for him after that. Left with no choice I went to McCalister's website. There was nothing highly objectionable on the first page so I voted for him. Besides, it looked like he was just trying to sell his book with his candidacy. In contrast, I did the same for Rubio's opponents. Their websites were very scary, crap about health care, immigration, restoring bible values, etc. I did not vote for anyone in the Senate as there was no choice, the other two were actually worse than Stop-O-Marco Rubio. Yep. This is one of the guys that was running against Rubio, William Escoffery:

Daddy Big-Bucks Jeff Greene for Senator. By Geniusofdespair

I just got a 22" by 17" Full Color mailer from Senate hopeful Jeff Greene. My God, that is an expensive mailer! Then a saw a few commercials with him mom singing his praises. She lives in Century Village and he is a billionaire -- that doesn't compute. He is sparing no expense with this campaign, maybe he'll throw a few dollars mom's way too.

The Herald's Biased Coverage of the Senatorial Campaign. by Geniusofdespair

Let's talk photos to see if the Herald is biased in their news article today. Here is the Herald's photo, Charlie Crist looks angry, Kendrick Meek looks dumb and Marco Rubio looks good. It is pretty obvious who they are liking today:

Now isn't my photo below a lot more accurate for an unbiased news outlet:

Miami Herald you should be ashamed when Eye on Miami is more unbiased than you are! Where is the Miami Herald Ombudsman when you need him?

Republican Credit Card Spending....The Florida Tobacco Company No Tax Deal....The Florida International University Job....Rubio's "Lobby Shop" With Hospital Contracts....

It is hard to believe that today, a Republican icon like Ronald Reagan, could not get elected by his party...too lefty.

Did You Know There Were 25 People Running for US Senator in Florida? By Geniusofdespair

There are 25 people running for U.S. Senate, 8 Democrats and 10 Republicans among them.

Why are we only reading about two Republicans and one Democrat? Why don't we hear about Kevin Burns and Maurice Ferre on the Democratic side? Why doesn't anyone talk about Republicans Howard Knepper and Gwyn McClellan. Did you know there was a woman in the race? Granted, Gwyn's website was one of the oddest I have ever seen but why aren't we hearing about her anyway? After all, we hear enough about her loony fellow Republican, Marco Rubio. What about Howard Knepper, a local boy from North Miami? His website is a little more normal if you discount the video playing "Born Free." Democrats Kevin Burns has a typically expected website and so has Maurice Ferre.

Since the pickings are so slim, tell us about ALL the candidates newspaper editors, not just the candidates with money.
You all have to go to Gwyn's website...really! Here is a sample:

This was on her qualification page:

But this made more sense, also on her qualification page:

Although celebrities and people who are millionaires should have an equal opportunity to run for federal, state, and local offices, it is also very important that our society recognize that being an American who is dedicated to making our country a better place to live for all individuals should be much more important a criterion for running for the United States Senate office than having a celebrity status or being a millionaire. Just because you are a celebrity or that you have a million dollars in your pocket doesn't mean that you have what it takes to make an exceptional senator.

You go girl!

But then sanity takes a vacation...this is also on her website (wow, this website seems like a roller-coaster ride):

Are Florida Republican Voters "Batshit Insane"? Do Not Miss This Crist/Rubio/Meek Article. By Geniusofdespair

Go to this link right now in Daily Kos. This amusing POLL gives little hope for Crist in the Republican primary and you can see why. Florida voters are just too damn dumb! Here is a sampling from the blog. They separated Republican primary voters as to whether they believe or don't believe (the wing-nuts) that Obama was born in the U.S.:

Obama born in US:
Rubio: 23 (16)
Crist: 66 (73)

Obama not born in US:
Rubio: 74 (54)
Crist: 8 (31)

Not Sure where Obama was born:
Rubio: 76 (45)
Crist: 16 (33)

Kos says of the results: "In other words, Crist dominates the sane GOP wing, but given that 2/3rds is either batshit insane, or is considering insanity, Rubio has the clear and easy path to the GOP nomination."

Tracking Marco Rubio: New Committee Filed With the FEC. By Geniusofdespair

I found this on the Federal Election Committee website: On February 22, 2010 the Secretary of the Senate stamped the Friends of DeMint & Rubio Organization. Two peas in a pod. Do they have any friends? The designated agent is Keith Davis. Lisa Lisker is the Treasurer. It is a joint fund raising committee.

President Obama recently said - quoting DeMint on healthcare reform:

“Just the other day, one Republican senator said – and I'm quoting him now – ‘If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him'". DeMint and Rubio belong together.

Is Charlie Crist's best strategy to switch parties? By Geniusofdespair

I am reprinting this because I think Crist's best strategy is to run as an Independent, I don't agree with the Democratic part Daily Kos suggests, because the Democrats will be too stupid to embrace him, but I agree Crist has to switch parties as my idea -- of us switching parties -- isn't working. I can't get any of my knucklehead Democratic friends to become Pubs to try to stop Rubio in the the primary. My friends will go down in flames with their principles: "I just can't do it" they say. And, my Stop-O Marco campaign is not gaining much traction since it's wildly popular launch last week.

The Daily Kos said Feb. 24th:

"Let's game this out:

Rubio is currently the comfortable frontrunner for the GOP nomination. If he defeats Crist, he's money for the Senate. Democratic nominee Kendrick Meeks won't present much of a challenge.

But here's the deal -- Crist is still a fairly popular governor. If he jumps to the Democratic Party, that gives Rubio a free shot in the primary, but he's going to win that anyway. But rather than have an easy romp in the general, he'd have to face Crist. And the general election isn't a closed Republican election dominated by conservative activists. Independents and moderates like Crist, and Democrats will fall in line.

But by all means, DeMint should continue taunting Crist. As I've said, there are only two people who can win this seat -- Crist and Rubio, and Crist won't win it as a Republican. Given the choice of the two, our choice shouldn't be hard."

Jump ship Charlie Crist, it is your only hope and...mine too!

Death of Cuban Activist Orlando Zapata Tamayo. By Geniusofdespair

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. - Elie Wiesel

After reading about the death of Cuban activist, Orlando Zapata Tamayo, from a hunger strike, I looked on line for a video about Cuba's lack of human rights and found this one by my favorite U.S. Senate candidate. I hope that Orland Zapata Tamayo's death was not in vain. I honor his protest immeasurably.

Jeb Bush's son comes to the defense of Marco Rubio and the Launch of the "Stop-O Marco Campaign". By Geniusofdespair

Today in the Miami Herald, Jeb Bush, Jr. came to Tea Party Candidate, Marco Rubio's defense in a letter to the editor. It is only a matter of time before Daddy Jeb, Rubio's ace in the hole, reveals himself. Jeb Jr. says:

Carl Hiaasen's Feb. 14 Uncomfortable spotlight now on Rubio is unfair, inaccurate and based on false assertions and incomplete information.

Which brings us to my 2010 crusade: I again appeal to all Democrats and Independents to change to Republican (here is the form). Vote for Crist in the Republican primary or you will be looking at Rubio as your next Senator. I am herewith launching the "Stop-O Marco, Rubio Sucks Campaign" My only platform: Change parties.
