Beckham Soccer Rebellion in Miami. By Geniusofdespair

Small start, but only one day's notice for this protest! The natives are restless, wanting to preserve their green space and blue space (the historical FEC slip). No Soccer here they say. Parks are for people not just fans of soccer and more cement. Take the stadium off the waterfront. Our waterfront is not on the table, it is not for sale.

Are you seriously ignoring the fact that this plan will add 5 acres of land to Museum Park while connecting the Museum to Bayfront and Brickell as part of a waterfront boardwalk project for the Miami?

You don't fill in the aquatic preserve period. You might not care about water but others do and it is 7.4 acres.

NO, there are lots of us who want to keep our few open spaces. Take you con game and go some place else. All you are going to get from this community is a hard way to go. Unless, of course, you go out west where your fans are. NO GAMBLING HERE!

That is not JUST a damn concrete gutter. THAT gutter is a solid historical part of WW2 where people trained to go save your county, butt head.

Just off the shores of Miami Beach, German subs lurked and the antisub base which was part of that gutter you scoff at, were the folks protecting the merchant marines and our shores from intrusion. In fact, the subs blew up a Mexican merchant ship off the Beach, while hotel guests watched. That base became very important... And while we are talking about it, did you know that the key west naval base was closed and moved to Biscayne blvd and to downtown Miami, as well?

Brave men died who stood on the edge of that slip and dock, so that you can bellyache about NOT giving up a water slip. It should be a WW2 memorial, not a soccer field or anything else.

On the other side of the pond where English is spoken, UKIP won 24 seats out of UK's 73 seats at the European Parliament. You might say "So what!" this heralds a major shift in European politics and possibly world politics in the next year or so. The extreme right wing party UKIP which has been compared to the Nazi Party has won a majority at the European parliament beating both the ruling Tories and Labour parties, a major event. Their stance on requiring abortion of children with Down Syndrome as well as promise to leave the EU and openly xenophobic and anti immigration stance by party leaders will be put to test at polls for House of Commons next year. It will be interesting how this game will resonate on this side of the pond in the coming year.

This Beckham scheme is looking more and more like the Marlins Scam. Taxpayers were screwed for $3 Billion on that fiasco.

If HistoryMiami is such great caretaker of Miami history, where the Hell are they?

Or is the state grant funding, the mega-bucks county funding and free county buildings enough to buy their silence on an issue of history that is less than 2 miles of their building?

They do nothing for history and everything to build their resumes and maintain their air of importance.

I hate the duplicity and fraud of purpose our so-called guardians of history present.

Local Commissioner Marc Sarnoff forces the taxpayers to renovate the semi-private pocket park across the street from his house every 3 years. Yet he can't lift a finger to protect Bicentennial Park? A public waterfront park?

Sarnoff has to go.

It is a disgrace that people have to demonstrate and use direct action just to keep open space.

I agree. Most commissioners need to go and Marc Sarnoff is doing a terrible job if his ambitions are to run for a higher political job (which I believe are his intentions). You can't gamble on a sport that is not guaranteed to succeed with a stadium blocking the water. What happens if the stadium doesn't meet Beckham;s expectations money wise? Who's going to pay to demolish stadium and add the park again? TAXPAYERS ARE.

You see what happened with the Marlins stadium when we were systematically raped as a community. No one will go there. They have tried to pay people to go with no avail. What happens when we are raped again and no one will go to the games?

Bayside also was built on parkland and that "skytower" behind Bayside taking away public space...we need more parkland and that boatslip that we wasted tax dollars on is never used to enhance our lives nor givrs us usuablr space..build the stadium but get Beckham group to build trolley to help our lack of transit

MUST KEEP THE PARK!!!
