Eye on Miami Gets Best News Blog 2012 Award. By Geniusofdespair

The votes from our readers put Eye on Miami on top as Best News Blog in the New Times Web Awards sponsored by Miami, Broward, Palm Beach New Times.

The nominees were:

Broward Bulldog
Naturally, the big dog of the Broward news scene, Broward Bulldog is a no bullshit kind of site. It specializes on politics, crime, and it's run by a handful of investigative reporters who've been in the biz since the dawn of time. Don't mess with the big dogs.
Eye on Miami
Here's looking at you, kid. Eye on Miami has a constant eye on the news scene in South Florida and beyond. The blog was awarded one of New Times' Best Of awards in 2008, and it's written by two chaps who live in their mothers' basements. Haha. Just kidding. We all know Miami is short on basements.
Random Pixels
Bill Cooke is something of a breaking news god. He's an "amateur," but, like, not. The professional photographer is always bickering with the Miami Herald -- and even goes so far as creating fake front pages of their daily. See what we mean? He's a god. A god!
The Straw Buyer
Peppered with gut-busting hysterical memes, GIFs, andm assorted photos, The Straw Buyer (that broke the camel's back) is an awesome daily news blog that prefers to keep things real. No bull. No frills. No nothing. Just hilarious commentary, facts, and GIFs. What. Is. Better?
Tim Smith's Fort Lauderdale
Tim Smith has some major cojones. He claims Fort Lauderdale is his. Or, that's what his blog's title implies. Just kidding. Well, kind of. The point is, we completely admire the man who makes the city's news his own. Because gosh darn nit, if he doesn't, who will?!
Transit Miami
Here to make us all feel like McDonalds-guzzling, pollution-causing, lazy asses with reckless abandon for that thing enviro people call "carbon footprints," Transit Miami just wants to make the world a better place. But since the task is a little daunting, they focus on making the world better by way of smarter urban planning, transit news, and overall hey-get-off-your-ass-and-make-miami-better news.

I just visited their page and it said Random Pixels was 2012 Best Blog. What's up with that? I want a recount!

This is a reader's award sponsored by all New Times - Miami/Broward/Palm Beach. It is not the Award that Miami New Times awarded a few months back. Readers voted I guess. All I know is I went to a bar and they gave me the award. It is their WEB award.

Hey, Gimlet and Genius, EVERYONE in and out of the State of Florida knows that this is THE BEST OF THE BEST OF BLOGS and we don't need an award from anyone. But, if you got the Best of Miami, we want to thank the New Times for the recognition.

Thanks to all our readers who took the time to give us a shout out. Thanks for recognizing our work, New Times. If not for the web, our points of view would have a limited audience. The stories we explore would not find their way into the wider world. Because we are able to, EOM informs readers (wish we could reach more), adds to the public record, and exerts pressure on the mainstream press that sometimes gets it wrong, sometimes avoids stories that offend powerful interests, and sometimes shies away from harming relations with advertisers. Freedom of speech is a wonderful right, even for people.

Okay, I used the grid on the Iphone to take the photo of the award. First time I used it. There aren't enough lines on the grid to make it work. Anyone else use the grid? I took about 12 shots and I cannot get a square.

Gave up on Iphone, scanned it. Never mind.

Oh, yes thank you all for your good wishes. You can see where my focus is...trying to give you straight images, not just straight talk.
