Throwing around the word Xenophobic. By Geniusofdespair

Front Page of the Miami Herald Dec. 29th. Because the Herald is talking about the dirtiest years of corruption and most of those pictured are Hispanic, are they being Xenophobic towards Hispanics?

Gee, most of the people pictured in this Herald Article on Miami Dade Corruption are Hispanic. Does that make the Miami Herald Xenophobic? If they were Black would the Herald be racist? Xenophobic means: the irrational or unreasoned fear of that which is perceived to be foreign or strange.  Because the majority of those pictured are Hispanic (does that mean the Herald is afraid of them)?

Get real. News is what it is and sometimes parody is just that (our post earlier today doing a take-off on the County Slogan) (that you all voted for).

Stop throwing around words that don't mean what you think.  Blogs aren't for sissies.

As a Gringo/Cuban, born in Havana, whose grandfather was a real, documented Revolutionary Hero of the Spanish American War and involved in the long fight that led to the freedom of Cuba, and as someone who was in Miami in the 50's in Miami, when i witnessed with my own eyes a circuit judge, in his chambers open up a brown paper bag and take out a wad on $100 bills as a bribe, among numerous stories of what crime and punishment was all about back then I can tell you that while corruption in this town was once exclusively a white folks game, after the Cubans arrived, they not only showed up ready to play the game, but in many ways ratcheted the game up in ways that no one would have ever thought them capable of.

In November of 2012 I wrote an editorial/rant in response to a whiny editorial written by Myriam Marquez at the Herald, that I think did a selective, but reasonable job of explaining just how the Cubans managed to contribute to fucking up the political culture of this city since they've been here.

Cubans aren't the only crooks, but when it comes to political corruption, medicare fraud and insurance fraud no one comes close to what they've managed to pull off.

Whenever large groups populate any city, there will be among them large numbers of good and bad "everything". Sadly, our country's history, and mankind's history throughout the world is full of xenophobic stories perpetrated against all immigrant groups at one time or another. It is disingenuous and unethical to publish a comment about Miami-Dade being "so close to the United States". What is the implication? That corrupt politicians don't exist elsewhere in the United States?

Xenophobia is the IRRATIONAL or UNREASONED fear of that which is perceived to be "foreign" or "different". It is often perceived by people with low self-esteem and feelings of personal inadequacy.

Xenophobia can manifest itself in many ways involving the relations and perceptions of an ingroup towards an outgroup, including a fear of LOSING IDENTITY, and desire to eliminate its presence to secure a presumed PURITY.

As a Cuban American who is both proud of this great country and his heritage I was not offended by the large number of hispanics listed in the article. If they are crooks they should not be in office. My only complaint is that three other highly placed Cuban Americans such as Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Commissioner Esteban Bovo and State Attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundle were not indicted for their role in the 2012 absentee ballot fraud scheme. Never too late though, hopefully next year.

I can think of at least 5 Haitian/African-Americans they should have listed. The Herald/Caputo aren't xenophobic. They are just liberal and practice reverse racism. They don't want to criticize a black politician no matter how crooked or incompetent (e.g., Obama).

Is it selective memory when we forget our predecessors:

Henry Milander, Carmen Lunetta, Louis Hoberman, David Goodhart, Harvey Shenberg, Alfonso Sepe, Pat Tornillo, Alex Daoud, Donald Warshaw, Manohar Surana, Miller Dawkins, Arthur Teele, Howard Gary, Joe Gersten, Arthur "Art" Balom,
Lydia Ward

DAMN CUBANS ARE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR CLIMATE CHANGE AND THEY PROBABLY RIGGED THE OBAMACARE WEBSITE TOO (I saw Rolando Martinez entering the White house after dark with a pair of pliers and a flashlight).
