With an FP&L Vote Pending, Commissioner Rebeca Sosa's Fundraiser is Hosted by FP&L Executive...IT Sucks Big-Time! By Geniusofdespair

I must be more popular than I thought, my friends in facebook invited me to this gala fundraiser for County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa and guess who is co-hosting it: Manny J. Rodriguez! Who is he? The Florida Power and Light Regional Director. WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?

County Citizens are being stonewalled at public meeting around the County by Florida Power and Light on power-line placement and the 2 proposed Nuclear Reactors.

WORSE: FP&L's upcoming rock mining permit to dig in farmland (so they can get cheap fill to raise the grade for their 2 nukes) is being heard by the County Commission on October 7th!! This Florida Power and Light executive does not see that it is outrageous to host a fundraiser for a sitting County Commissioner that his company is appearing in front of 2 weeks later for a pivotal vote? THIS TOTALLY SUCKS! In my book this is worse than the Public Service Commission probe -- again FP&L -- playing out in today's paper. Rebeca Sosa, this is a black eye for you too.

This is horrible. Rebeca Sosa should not be this close to the utility company, they are in front of her TOO often.

Anyone can post a complaint on the Miami-Dade County Ethics Commission website at http://www.miamidadeethics.com/enforcement/provide-a-tip.html

Can also call Ethics Commission anonymously at (786) 314-9560 or email at ethics@miamidade.gov

More of the same. Shame on Ms. Sosa.

She is creating markers that are going to put in her in a badddd spot, and it is putting the citizens in a worse one.

The commissioner should understand all about political payback at this point in her career. She is getting sucked into a career ending issue.

You should see the campaign donations she's historically received from developers whose projects she voted to approve. Disgusting.

Yeah, good luck with that. The dept is worthless and toothless. I guarantee Myers will declare this is a "gray area" -- or if not, suggest a whopping $50 fine. He doesn't have the stomach or the tools to go after elected officials.

this is the woman who is sponsoring legislation to strengthen the ethics office. what a fng joke.

Considering that Sosa faught in Tallahassee to block FPL's increase on county residents in 2008; I have trouble buying into your article on favoritism to a company that she's faught against.

From the Miami-Dade Legislative section:

LAST ANON -- That isn't the point. And, if you don't get the point I am not going to explain it to you. Read the Miami Herald. They write on about a 5th or 6th grade level, points are spelled out for you.

Don't buy into the political rhetoric that "campaign contributions will not buy my vote". That is BS. Of course it buys votes and so does hosting a party!

G.o.D.

Could you post the info you have on the FPL sponsorship. In searching I can find nothing about it except what you put on the blog. The Miami Dade web site is down right now. I ask this because FPL has a PAC called GGMA, Good Government Management Association, that is run by employees not FPL. (I know, sounds fishy) Is the sponsorship from FPL the corporation or the FPL PAC?

It is from an individual, that works for FP&L -- no PAC. It is not a county run fundraiser why would it be on the county website??? It is a private fundraiser given by two people one the guy mentioned: the other is Jorge Luis Lopez - it is Sept 22nd
at 131 Madeira Avenue, Coral Gables.

Forget about the Ethics Office and close their doors! They investigate and rarely find things wrong or play them down. They are a part of the corruption that runs rampant in County Hall!
