Transit: Could Mayor Gimenez Give It Any Less Attention? By Geniusofdespair

Hiring Alice Bravo was bad enough but breakdown after breakdown of metro cars and buses is inexcusable. And trading our Sanctuary City status for transit money that never materialized with your pal Donald Trump --
I am not the only one ticked off, take a look at this full page ad from the Miami Herald:

Meanwhile the Miami Herald reported today that while ignoring transit he wants to put money and effort into a stupid road expansion:

Urging county leaders not to neglect the vast majority of residents who drive, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez used a high-profile speech Tuesday to champion the extension of the Dolphin Expressway south into Kendall while resisting calls for a quick expansion of Metrorail into different suburbs.

“Today, approximately 95 percent of our residents commute via personal vehicles. And for the foreseeable future, the majority of our residents will continue to use their personal vehicles,” Gimenez said during his 2018 State of the County address, a report required by the Miami-Dade charter. “We must continue to improve our roadway network.”

Maybe they wouldn't all be driving if you expanded transit to these areas like we were promised. We don't want the road in the Everglades we want the transit. Expanding roads is like loosening your belt when you get fat. It does not solve the problem.

Bovo where is your leadership on this? The good County Commissioners get your act together and get us some good transit. We need new cars for the Existing rail YESTERDAY AND NEW CONNECTING LINES TODAY. If the Mayor can’t get it done, County Commissioners step up to the plate and hit a home run for us.

How much will the taxpayers be billed for that stinking soccer stadium???? More money for the rich while the lowly taxpayers wait in long lines on useless overburdened roads.

We need transit now. #Nomoredamnbuses!

He is lost in space. Danger Will Roger, Danger, danger, danger.

Hey Gimenenz, In space, no one can hear you fart.

That can't be Gimenez in space. Miami-Dade County could never get him off into orbit - for gosh sakes, the County can't even get transit down south of Kendall Drive.

"If the Mayor can’t get it done, County Commissioners step up to the plate and hit a home run for us." - Really Genius? Home Runs are old news, the stadium has been completed and we the taxpayers are dutifully paying the bills for the millionaires.

The new nomenclature is to 'get on past the goalie, as in soccer.

Get me transit so we all can yell "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAALLLLLLLLLL"

The transit situation is but one example of the high level of disrespect, if not outright distain, the Mayor and the BCC have for the citizens of this County. MetroRail service is so abysmal, I am surprised that the rush hour crowd have not yet torched a train, including the few new train cars that recently went on line. It is the rare MetroRail ride that is not delayed, interrupted, or aborted. Just yesterday one of the new trains went inexplicably "out of service", forcing hundreds of commuters back onto the platform. Before they could continue their trip, they had to wait through two, three, four, or more passing trains that were too packed to admit additional riders. Alice Bravo has got to go. Even Mussolini was able to get his trains to run on time.

Bovo is our only really hope to fulfill the promises made in the past. He is the only one that understands it and has the vision. I was really impressed at the CITT Summit with is knowledge and well thought out plan of TODs.

I have but one question. Miami Taxpayers have been very good to all of our sports teams. Each once has received more than their fair share of sales tax rebates, infrastructure improvements, first responders for each game at public expenses, public financing and best of all: fan support. So when will we ever see any financial return? When will all the benefits touted regarding having these major sports teams ever be realized in any growth of tax base or income that results in even the smallest benefit to the public. Seriously, the superbowl is one example. We through millions to get it. Our Hotels are already at 100% occupancy for that time of year, so we obviously displace one type of tourist for another. Many stay in Broward, a county that donates nada to Dade County. So who sees any extra jingle in their pockets other than Police, fire (Overtime) or Joe's Stone Crabs (yawn - overrated and the 'fun' is in 'paying off' the staff $20-50 at a time to gain entry - its a sport for this graft-ridden town). S0 seriously, when is it ever our turn, the taxpayers' turn to ever see their tax dollars actually ever spent on us?

Technology continues to move forward and in Miami Dade we are enamored with rail and trains. How are you going to pay for this. Has anything happened in the last 25 years? Nothing will happen in the next 25 if we don't look at options that are better, more flexible, quicker and cheaper than rail. Express service vehicles, whether rubber tire, (not the old buses that ride around, multi-passenger private service, trackless trains that can run on expressways, this is forward thinking not just an empty call for transit. So the mayor wants this expressway and put express service on it, well that is one way to do both modes. Let one mode pay for the other. Yes fix what we have but think forward, don't relive a failed past.

Technological progress is impossible in Miami Dade because of severe corruption and nepotism.

How quickly this community forgets! In 2012 Mayor Gimenez's campaign manager was caught with a campaign warehouse full of absentee ballots. Our citizens still voted for him and later reelected him in 2016. Comm. Esteban Bovo's aid was caught with 150 absentee ballots in Bovo's office. Not only was Bovo reelected but he is now the Commission Chair. Bovo will run for mayor in 2020 and the same citizens will elect him into office. The question is, how can two corrupt politicians be expected to fix our traffic or any other problem?

Previous comment......the narrative isn't sticking. The aide was given immunity and had nothing on Bovo, she went roque....period. Sasha Tirador has tried making this an issue, but it his record of service and reform minded votes have set him free from her crap.

Hyperloop is cutting edge technology, Hyperloop will build the system for us if we provide the land. It is a no brainer, which we have plenty of in Miami Dade County.
