State Aquatic Preserve Pollution from...the STATE? By Geniusofdespair

Sunny day, no rain for awhile yet this pipe in Coconut Grove filled with polluted water continuously pours into Biscayne Bay a State designated and protected Aquatic Preserve. Rain or shine, water runs into the Bay.

What entity is responsible? The City says, not our water. The County says not ours either. Apparently the State might be responsible. The County is investigating the pipe...for a quite a bit of time now. Still the water flows at an alarming rate 24/7 from...?? into our State Aquatic Preserve from, it is believed, the STATE OF FLORIDA - Florida Department of Transportation.

How long has this been going on? That sucker has been there a very long time, most of the time its discharge hidden by the higher tide. You can also watch on YouTube.

What's the pollution in the pipe effluent?

I don't know go test it. Or ask Derm (the County), I am waiting patiently for an update.

One of the boats near the outfall said he has been there for 17 years and water has always been pouring out, even it hasn't rained for a month

So how far is it to the FPL Power plant? Is there no way to follow the pipe to see which direction it leads to. Any Big Corporations in the area?

Put Rick Scott in jail too!

Plug it up and see who starts complaining?

I love it, plug it up.

I wager $100 an old terrorist has been trying to pollute the bay and destroy America. Wake up Homeland Security!

It is by the dingy dock ( under it) near the boat ramps.

This outfall, which is on the northeast side of the "old Mutiny" and goes up the hill under the alley behind the "new" Mutiny, has been there for many years. It was supposed to be removed when the drainage projects for Macfarlane Road and 27th Avenue were completed, but it was left in place because the "new Mutiny" couldn't keep the water out of their parking garage during construction. During that time we had several summers in a row with very heavy rains and construction was delayed for months.
The county completed the other projects in the area and my thought is that they just forgot about it.
A best guess is that what is happening now is that the couple of hundred of yards of pipe is filling up at high tide and then flowing out when the tide changes.
On the other hand, it could be a Martian voodoo project instigated by Mayor Carlos (either one) and Mayor Tomas to keep the Cuban Santeria population in check.

You can see the water flow during high tide as well

There are many buildings across Bayshore Drive with storm drains and possibly raw sewage with no indication they are not draining out to the bay. Send a snake with camera up the drain to locate its source, if anyone cares!!! By the way an oil rig could be built next to the drain soon thanks to the Donald.
