The Miami "Not My President" Protest. By Geniusofdespair

I can't believe I missed a good old fashioned protest. Well here are three photos and a Frank Alvarado video of the event...

What you see is young people, who did not take history or civics... I don't care that they want to protest... However.... They don't understand that not everyone wins a trophy... thank you, little league. They don't understand the electoral college because they weren't taught it and frankly, at this point, they wouldn't listen unless it made things go their way. And then they would still protest for one reason or another.

It scares the crap out of me to see those young faces dragging this nation into socialism. I am a Dem, but I did not sign up for a socialist nation nor do I want to see young people who are self centered (all about me) in spite of their mantra to take care of the people. I saw them take their "rights" and stop this city. What about my right to use public roads? My right for Fire Rescue to get me to medical care? Why didn't they take their civil disobedience to the park or to area that would allow for their story to be told without endangering the public. The Media would have been there and people rights would not have been stepped on.

I had one 20-something tell me that the Republicans will die out and the Dems will have their way with this nation. That is scarey as hell. They don't want a vibrant nation built on differences and discussion. They don't want to see people achieve rewards for their hard work. They want sameness. It is a gang of people who want the easy-way out. This is not my Democratic party. What happened to lending a hand-up and being kind to others without fiscal irresponsibility? I grew up in an union family. My dad would freak out at the idea of socialism; that is not party he joined either.

I was a young person at Woodstock and at Vietnam War protests. They are fun events. Don't take kids so seriously. You were one once. Peaceful demonstration is great.

To the anon above. Maybe it's you that needs a lesson in civics. The right to protest is fundamental to our American democracy. Would you prefer that these kids just sit on their butts and happily accept the election of a man that even many Republicans agree is unfit to lead this nation? Attending a protest IS hard work and I, for one, am proud of these kids for getting out there and peacefully voicing their opinion and outrage. Keep it up!

@1st anon--you have no clue what socialism is

@1, then by all means, don't accept your medicare and social security when your time comes. Take your kids out of public schools, don't drive on our highways, don't turn on your tap water, take care of your own garbage, etc. etc. etc. Not having all those things scares the crap out of me. Nobody's dragging you into socialism, its already here. The kids just want to make it better!

1st anon, I happen to agree with you. I don't recognize either main political party. We are not a socialist nation and it scares the heck out of me too. The fact that there's talk of college kids getting out of exams because a presidential election result was not what they wanted is beyond frightening too along with the need for safe spaces.

I support their rights to protest and voice their anger. I oppose them blocking public roads instead of staying in Bayfront Park. Putting the public safety at risk and anyone condoning it is just crazy. Does this mean i can get out of my car in the middle of the road and stop traffic because I'm mad? Please let me know if I'll get arrested or not because I though that was against the law.

Socialism = safety net.

Candidate Trump will privatize everything and cut social services.

U-turn Pres-Elect Trump is Googling Obamacare (I shit you not) and finding out what dropping 20 million, 100 thousand (the last 100,000 joined in the past 24 hours - again I shit you not) will do to this country.

Viva la Zika!!!

If You Are Not a Liberal at 25, You Have No Heart. If You Are Not a Conservative at 35 You Have No Brain..

In 1923 the “Wall Street Journal” credited King Oscar II

"protest at will my young and winsome child, until the time you find yourself in a 35% tax bracket".

I agree with Anon 1. We had an election where everyone had a chance to vote for their preferred candidate. We had 18 months preceeding
the election where everyone had a chance to volunteer and/or contribute to our preferred candidate. Sadly, the least qualified candidate won and now we must accept that fact. Throughout the summer I traveled through the South and there were Trump signs everywhere and barely a Clinton sign or presence. With so much money in her campaign coffers and coming from Arkansas I wondered why the lack of interest in those southern states? At the end those states decided her fate.

Been watching the news and trying to understand why the protests. I finally get it.
There was an election. The people exercise their votes. One candidate gets the most votes and should be "the winner".
That was Hillary (the Popular vote) .... More whites, blacks, Asians, Hispanics, gays, straights, liberals, conservatives, independents.....Americans voted overwhelmingly for Hillary. Trump is declared the winner. What's wrong with with this picture? It's like "we the people" aren't heard.
The problem is the electoral college....it's not working for us anymore and needs to be reviewed, revised, updated or eliminated.
What works in one era doesn't necessarily work today.
Americans are frustrated, disappointed and angry ...and they are voicing it the only way they know how...by protesting.

Last time I checked there were fifty states and Donald Trump won thirty of those states or 60%, conveniently forgotten by the above poster. So following through on your premise all future Presidents are elected by California, Massachusetts and New York because of the heavy Democrat influence. So in your world disenfranchising forty-seven states is okay as long as a Democrat wins. I think that is called elitism.

In the first 100 days if Trump installs clean water in Flint, it will send a big signal to the nation.

The 35% tax backet starts at $413,000.

You should hire an accountant and stop whining.

What young people are learning is that votes have consequences. You can't stay home and not vote and leave it to others. You can't throw your votes away voting for people who cannot win. And you should never vote for people who openly tell you, and makes it plainly clear, that they intend to hurt you and everything you stand for.

LOL woof, that's a good one.. hire an accountant to lower the federal tax rates.. my accountant can only use legal deductions and credits to minimize my effective tax rate and Hillary calls that being a deadbeat tax cheat.

The only way to change the federal tax rate is to elect fiscal conservatives to office.
