The Mayor's Race: BIG UPSET! Raquel Regalado Forces Carlos Gimenez into a runoff. By Geniusofdespair

Mayor Tomas Regalado with his daughter Raquel.

Not able to garner at least 50% of the Vote, Carlos Gimenez, an incumbent Mayor, is forced into a  runoff with Raquel Regalado in November.

Mayor Tomas Regalado said this was the most important election of his life.

Save Dade, you should have co-endorsed. That was a mistake to just endorse Carlos without giving the other candidate a chance.

By the numbers...
Tomas Regalado and his 3 children
You must get 50% of the vote to win outright. This race will go into a runoff in November.

This is a blessing.

Not only SaveDade, there are union turncoats who chased his dollar promises. Want something done in this county between now and November? Ask Ms Regalado to state the issue, pose the solution and watch Gimenez act on it.

Yay! Go Raquel!

Carlos Gimenez has many enemies. The last 8-15 years have shown him to be the toad of lobbyists and various sleaze bags. Carlos Gimenez. Jr even quit a law firm to become a lobbyist. Unfortunately, Raquel Regalado has never run a lemonade stand much less a $7.1 Billion Budget. On to November.

And if Raquel wins, do we get our "no kill" animal shelters that we voted for?

I'll never forget how Giminez coldly slashed the library budget And was willing to close half the libraries and fire the staff. Bad policies all around.

Check out the difference in numbers between ABs and early voting and election day votes. Proof of the the AB fraud machine run by Gimenez.

A couple anons above. I'm an animal lover. However, I just don't get the goal of "no kill" shelters. Caring for unwanted and feral animals is a very costly proposition.

Not sure it is has any basis in logic. If those that voted for a candidate besides Gimenez or Regalado vote for Regalado, it's a dead heat.

"...let's drill down on some of these numbers, shall we? Not because of Gimenez himself, but because of the larger issue of voter/citizen apathy.
- as I write this, Gimenez has 47.72% of the vote, which sounds decent. Until you realize that voter turnout was utterly abysmal; the overall turnout in our county was about 20%, with most precincts being 10-15%, and a few going as high as 30%.
- About half the county is registered to vote - 1.3 million, but only 20% voted in this MAYORAL election - which included primaries for senators, representatives (at the national and local level), etc.
- Gimenez is ahead with ~118,000 votes, or 9% of registered voters. So I wouldn't count that as a "mandate" from the people.

Separately, I can't even deal with this amount of apathy. How can people NOT CARE? Every citizenship gets the leadership it deserves, and we're no different. If we can't be bothered to get off our lazy asses and go do the ONE THING that allows most of us participation in our political futures, the one thing that gives us something resembling a damn voice in this process that is already designed to ensure the best-connected and wealthiest stay as our leaders, then what hope is there?

I'm livid - not at the result, although I certainly would prefer a mini goat in the mayoral office than Gimenez - but at the utter apathy, the disinterest, the disconnection from participation in the representative democracy that people have killed and died to protect. You don't like how government does things? Stop complaining and VOTE. You DO like how things are? Then support the people who are keeping things that way and - you guessed it - VOTE. Our vote is our voice, our vote is our right and our privilege. God damn it all, people. USE YOUR VOICE."

It is important that she moves quickly now with her ground game, everything else is BS. Women represent the majority of the voters in Miami- Dade county. Using the school board districts or county commission districts as geographic units, engage a large number of different kinds of groups that are independent of each other. Absentee, early voting, and election day operations should be thought of separately. Women's groups are already in play to elect Hillary. She simply needs to attach herself to her coattails. Personally hit as many groups as possible. She needs to meet with each sitting county commissioner and ask for their support. This is a critical opening door exercise, none may support her, but it is OK. They will have to deal with her later. The voters have indicated rather dramatically that they are ready for change.

For the presidential election, we are looking at 65-70% turnout or more given the things that are at risk for us. What we have to worry about is if the voting infrastructure can handle this large volume of voters. Our history says it may be another nightmare like the last one. She needs to make sure that when voters arrive at the polls, they know who she is, because they will be voting one way or another.

It is non partisan she will not be listed under either party

Maybe you don't get the goal of a "no kill" shelter, which meant you voted "no" on it when it was on the ballot. I voted yes, along with a majority of the voters. But why should the voter get a choice? We voted down a baseball stadium, yet there it is. We voted to buy land below the Lake, but Rick Scott ignored us. Al Gore had the most votes in Florida, but W became president. I guess the majority of voters means nothing because the politicians decide in the end, not us.

That is great, but I knew that already. It means she can work with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. All of the women's groups are crossing party and every other kind of line to get Hillary in. She needs to get on her coattails. She can't afford to be stupid. Now is the time to be smart and get in office. Everything else we can work out after she sits in the chair.

I wish she wouldn't pose in as many pictures with her father. I know several people who mentioned to me that one of the reasons they didn't like her is that they thought it would be too cozy for her to be mayor of the county while her dad is mayor of the city. We've had too many political dynasties of late, clinton, bush, etc that it really turns off some people.
(and yes, i know this was her campaign party and it makes sense for any candidate's dad to be there with the candidate, just expressing thoughts)

In the primary lots of people did not know her, or that she was running. They thought the present mayor was their only option, although they had many issues with his actions or non-actions on a number of levels. I told many people about her, and once they looked, they were ready to vote for her. She has got to stretch her campaign all over the county, so voters know she is on the ballot.

Genius,
Thank you for keeping it real and not backing down just because Crespo went after you. He's a bulldog that hates opposing views.
Keep on the good fight.

Ralphie Garcia-Toledo? Getting $18 Million from the taxpayers for being Carlos Gimenez's part-time driver?
Voters (and taxpayers) are pissed off.
