The Campaign Contributions for July are in for Miami Dade County Mayor. By Geniusofdespair

Mayor Carlos Gimenez now has $1,609,135 that he has collected. Raquel Regalado, his closest competitor, has $312,186. Carlos Gimenez's Pac - Miami Dade Residents First has collected $2,627,707. Almost 5 million dollars, come on -- overkill. Give us the money and we will gladly vote for you Carlos. The thing I don't understand - why is it legal to take money from foreigners such as the Ghermezians (Canadians) and their companies? Just because they set up subsidiaries with New York addresses it is legal? Come on, Genting is not a U.S. business. What happened to the foreign country ban?

Now it is up to you voters. I expect you will be getting a shitload of mailers from Carlos Gimenez as he hasn't shown up for debates.

The only races in contention are with the judges.

Hey elections, it says on your website my absentee ballot was sent August 2nd. Where is it?

And all that money from GIMENEZ's PAC and campaign account will be funneled through his corrupt associates to the street corner boleteras. The next four year Miami Dade County will come to know what this emperor is truly like.

Received a GIGANTIC mailer from Gimenez yesterday. Biggest I've ever seen, probably 10" x 20" folded in half in my mailbox.

Later that day, I plugged my nose and voted Regalado on my absentee (not into the whole family dynasty thing). AND YES ON SOLAR (NO IN NOV).

Just saw a poster on Main Highway (scenic corridor) of Regalado. It was about 10 foot by 15 foot, with a smaller one, at least 4 by 8 right next to it. They were on commercial empty buildings. The larger one must be illegal. Is there anyone else out there running because now I can't vote for her. Can't vote for Gimenez because he keeps calling my house!

Really you would change your vote over the size of a campaign sign. , of a woman struggling against an almost 1/2 billion dollar campaign by the other candidate? Where are your priorities?

The citizens of this county are not aware of the empire they are up against. To be totally truthful, the grand majority neither understands the magnitude of the problem we are facing. This county is in the grips of group of well-to-do individuals who hold the strings to every politician, the State Attorney's Office and the local media which includes The Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald and our t.v. and radio stations.
Our mayor does the bidding for the special interests, who in turn are protected by our State Attorney and her crew of puppet prosecutors. The local media reports only information that is convenient to the powerful and anyone who steps out of line is either fired from their government job, is bankrupted as a businessman or worse of all may fall victim to fishing expedition investigations by the State Attorney.
We live under tyranny even if most don't realize it or care. Thank you for offering us this blog to express our disgust for all the corruption we face on a daily basis. This blog is a beacon of light in an otherwise putrid sewer of a county.

I have received a few mailers....and I have voted for Gimenez, I like that he cut government when it needed to be cut and has handled the budget responsibly. That is all I need from my elected official

How does Regalado get around the fact that she and her landlord screwed the county out of $8,000 in a Homestead Exemption Fraud scheme?

Then she is on the VAB? Nobody does a background check, none of her supporters give her sound advice. Too bad that actions supersede intent.

No story on your announced County Mayoral candidate? A little Homestead exemption problem, maybe. A foreclosed mortgage, maybe.

news to me...she had a foreclosure. have not followed since then. how about Gimenez''s son PHYSICALLY threatening a a school board candidate. Let's not get bogged down in shit.

David: You don't even live around here anymore and all you EVER cared about was being an apologist for FPL. Looks like Gimenez is your man as he is FPL's man.

Nothing like a large PAC with a good campaign strategist to bring out the cult followers! So you think Regalado's homestead excemption "problem" is reason enough to vote against her? And you think Gimenez shrunk goverment and fixed our budject? What Gimenez did was comingled 52 county departments into 26 by ridding the county of ptofessional employees and bringing in a cast of yes men and women at higher salaries who only serve to ensure county contracts go to Gimenez's campaign and PAC contributors. Check the county budget- it costs more to run 26 departments today than it did 52 five years ago. Balanced budget? How about the rise of property value and the increase in our taxes, is that not the reason for the filled coffers and the rosy budget? Only two types of people vote for Gimenez- the naive and unread who have had their head stuck in the sand for the last couple of years or the ones who have benefitted from the proceeds of sweetheart deals at the expense of the taxpayer.

I just received a screaming phone call about homestead exemption fraud. The recorded voice was literally yelling and hyperventilating. The number that called me is 305-248-9126. I called the number back to see what would happen, but got a recording saying the number is not in service. I believe this is a number from Google Voice. Apparently, they auto-dial the calls, and block everyone from calling back.

If someone else gets a call from this number, please confirm who the call is from. I got tired of being yelled at on the phone so I hung up.

I find it incredible that the Do Not Call list exempts politicians from enforcement. I am not surprised because politicians would never think of making it illegal to call people who don't want to hear from them.

How about the Domestic violence charges against Carlos Jr. We need a last minute robocall for that!

I can't seem to figure out why you keep repeating 1/2 billion dollars. Help me with the math?

I'll vote for the person who doesn't overreact to adversity, pander to millionaires, demonstrate arrogance to those who disagree with a stance, ignore addressing the public during county emergency situations (until this election cycle neared), and tries selling off public assets.
Gimenez has said that the county should only be in the business of running the sea and airport.

Raquel is my choice.

Did you purposely block comments on your top post today on Regalado?

The Mayor and his son were tag-teaming a woman? Sounds about right. Of course, the Miami Herald could never uncover the public file on that one and publish a timely story to hurt their beloved incumbent. Maybe that divorcee Publisher of the Herald has something going on with Alcalde?
