Fabiola Santiago takes aim at Mayor Gimenez:
The mayor is lavishly funded, thanks to his powerful and deep-pocketed friends in construction, real estate and development, and county vendors and lobbyists. He has collected an unprecedented $4.3 million in cash donations — and he and his campaign committee have spent, according to the last filing of expenditures, almost $3.1 million to avoid a runoff race with Regalado and annihilate the other six candidates running against him. And:
Gimenez has plenty to worry about in Northwest Miami-Dade, where the voters he’s targeting live in bedrooms communities that will be negatively impacted by the megamall project he helped broker and fast-tracked for commission approval without seeking any input from residents.
The mayor touts the countless jobs the monstrous American Dream Miami complex will generate. But the only thing residents in cities like Hialeah Gardens and Miami Lakes and enclaves like Palm Springs North and Lakes on the Green see the project generating is constantly insufferable traffic in what are already congested zones.
But under this mayor’s watch, that is poised to change dramatically, with the construction next door of what’s being billed as the largest mall in America, larger than Minnesota’s Mall of America, which holds the title. And as if it weren’t enough to erect 194.5-acres of retail, restaurant and entertainment space and 2,000 hotel rooms, another mammoth construction project is under way directly south of it, a mixed use business park by the Graham Companies with retail, office, and residences.
And:
No doubt Gimenez is an accomplished elected official, but the slogans that truly fit are: “Putting developers first” and “Always there for them.”Vote for Raquel Regalado for Mayor of Miami Dade County.

For those of us that reside in the Northwest quadrant, we should brace for what is heading our way. As it is now, NW 67 and 57 Avenues are so gridlocked with schools, fast food businesses and warehouses that venturing out of our homes between 7a.m.-9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. is an exercise in futility.
This monster of a mall will draw patrons from every corner of the tri-county area and most will make their ways there through the listed arteries, I-75 and NW 186 Street. What that means is that the traffic will be so horrendous that living in the area will no longer be an option.
The beneficiaries of this mall will be the contractors who will profit at the cost of our standard of living and of course, the politicians, who will continue to entrench themselves in their elected posts to suck us dry.
If we are to prevent any further deterioration of this county we must vote against Carlos Gimenez and prevent Esteban Bovo from becoming Commission Chair. If the latter accomplishes his objective the rest of the county citizens will be in the same predicament we now find ourselves in. No to Gimenez and no to Bovo.
Got a call from Fernandina Beach Florida saying the Gimenez brought Zika to the Miami area.
I am not voting for Raquel Regalado just because Gimenez has been irratic, confrontational, and a behind-the scenes broker. I'm voting for a steady handed, listener who thinks bigger than sheer overdevelopment. Regalado focuses on bringing the infrastructure to equal the existing development. She makes sense - which is why her ideas are being quickly implimentd by Gimenez, who has started fixing problems due to the pending election.
Anonymous No. 1 you must live in a world of oblivion. Bovo just got re-elected as he ran unopposed. Can't you see? Nobody gives a shit anymore. We all complain, but do nothing. Our democracy is no longer as we are slowly moving into a socialist state, which would eventually become a communist state.
Lets all sit back talk about it, complain, and do nothing!
Robo-calls from Gimenez PACs have outnumbered Regalado's 10:1 at our house. The tone of the calls is a caricature of sleezy campaigning. Really disgusting. If he is as great as his campaign maintains he is, why stoop so low?

Anonymous # 4 get a grip. You jump from a local topic to a Chicken Little mentality of "communists taking over". The fact is that Bovo is currently actively seeking to become Chair and it is up to us to lobby our commissioners on our own time to influence them to vote for someone other than Bovo. If you rather sit on the sideline and watch that happens that is up to you. Perhaps the traffic congestion has not reached your neck of the woods- yet.
Voting for a politician based on what they do on an election year is a poor choice...I think that's Genius' point.
"In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence.” Gimenez was in the right place at the right time to reach this office, for sure. Remember, he filled this vacancy because his original opponent was under threat of indictment. At the City of Miami, when he reached the top of the heap he was fired for having no vision. In all the mail we have received, there is no indication he has a plan to lead this community. Time for this incompetent to go home. Unlike Fabiola, we have received mail from Raquel, and all five votes in our house are going with her.
I voted yesterday and saw what seemed to be around twenty police and firefighters voting themselves. From their not-so-subtle conversation, I know that Regaldo put up all those votes. They embed very motivated to oust Gimenez! I too voted for Raquel. Go out and vote before the bad weather creeps in
That's just why I DIDN'T VOTE GIRL HIM!!!! I VOTED FOR RAQUEL REGALADO SHE'S MORE FITTED FOR THE JOB POINT PERIOD!!!!
Every single LEO that is in the field will vote for Raquel. The Mayor has an incredible dislike for anything that is Miami-Dade County. He reigns with fear and intimidation. His appointments are mere puppets for his administration. If anyone talks against his propaganda, they will find themselves out of a job.
Get out an Vote and that crook Gimenez out of the Seat
