On Climate Change Denialists in the GOP: Voters Have Reached Their Limit ... by gimleteye

The UK Guardian reports: "As the string of record-breaking global temperatures continues unabated, June 2016 marks the 14th consecutive month of record-breaking heat."

14 consecutive months sounds like a trend.

"According to two US agencies – Nasa and NOAA – June 2016 was 0.9C hotter than the average for the 20th century, and the hottest June in the record which goes back to 1880. It broke the previous record, set in 2015, by 0.02C. The 14-month streak of record-breaking temperatures was the longest in the 137-year record. And it has been 40 years since the world saw a June that was below the 20th century average."

40 years sounds like a trend.

Since 1880, when global temperatures began to be measured, the four hottest years on record started in 2010. 2016 is poised to break the record, again.

Trend? That's an alarm.

Yet this November, some will vote for the climate-denial Republican Party. The denialists and GOP candidates are mainly funded by polluting industries who have invested hundreds of millions of dollars to promote lies in defiance of evidence.

This November, hope and change is not an academic argument. It is time to throw the GOP out of its Congressional majorities and to elect a Democratic president who can help our legislatures chart a path to reverse climate change impacts.

The hottest temperature ever measured outside of Death Valley was just recorded in the Mideast: 129 plus degrees. At 135 or 140 degrees: does life get safer for us, in the United States?

The world is on fire. Not in 100 years. Now.

Climate denialism is not a political tactic or strategy, it is a fiction the GOP hides behind while it locks-in a status quo through laws protecting them while the rest of us face climate-driven economic catastrophes. It is us versus them, and we either fight that wedge now -- a matter of choice at the polls in November -- or we will forever suffer the consequences.

You are right, they can deny all they want, but it is hot now. I remember reading somewhere that EPA is one of the departments Trump says he will eliminate.

I didn't see your comment, Jimbo, but I am certain it was a sharp and effective response to the nonsense contained in this article. Perhaps you mentioned that we are not achieving record temperature levels as this blog article suggests. Some fifty million years ago, Florida was completely underwater and the average temperature was more than 20 degrees hotter than the present. And yet the temperature was normal and natural; there were no SUV vehicles or coal plants that caused it to occur.

Also, the current warming of our region is not a recent phenomena. It began at the time of the Civil War, when we emerged from the mini Ice Age. And although temperature changes have been manipulated and grossly inflated in recent years, climate change on our planet will always be inevitable and there is nothing we can do (or should do) to stop it.

Deleting comments on scientific matters is anti-intellectual. If anyone thinks my comments are "stupid," I challenge you to refute them with your evidence and we can have a scientific discussion.

1 in 1000 scientists share the view that this is normal. What they can't deny is that the current uptick in Co2 and temperatures have an UNPRECEDENTED RATE OF INCREASE. Humans did it and we have only one earth.
