Assault on Public Records, Reproductive Rights and our Pocketbook. By Geniusofdespair

Pocketbook: Mayor Carlos Gimenez's sleigh of hands on monies is not fooling anyone. It is all public money. To rescue the Science Museum (that had a perfectly good home but just had to move) Gimenez wants to take Omni Community Redevelopment money. He isn't fooling anyone, especially the new Chairman of that entity. City of Miami Commissioner Russell said:  he's opposed to using the anti-blight fund to ease pressure on museum budgets.
“To me, there is a core mission of a [community redevelopment agency] and it does not include the operating expenses of a museum,” said Russell, whose City of Miami District 2 seat traditionally comes with the Omni chairmanship. “It should be affordable housing, it should be job training, it should be for residents who live within that [community redevelopment agency].”
I totally agree with Russell and hope County Commissioners do too.

Reproductive Rights:

Once again the Florida legislature wants to ban abortions even though the Supreme Court just affirmed Roe vs. Wade in another instance. Who is going to pay the legal bills? Us. Maybe they will use Amendment 1 monies. By an 8 to 3 vote HB 865 was moved forward. It makes it a first degree felony to perform or run an abortion clinic. 30 years in prison folks. A chill on that one. The bills sponsor is Charles Van Zant a Republican.
“The Legislature finds that all human life comes from the Creator, has an inherent value that cannot be quantified by man, and begins at the earliest biological development of a fertilized human egg,” the bill says.
 Whoof on that one.

Public Records:
The House is moving forward with two bills to stop the sunshine. They are making it harder to get public records by charging unheard of fees. Do you have $60,000 laying around? Anyway, the Miami Herald has a stake in public records costs so that is what their editorial is about. They say the legislature is trying to "stifle the State's public records law." You think? Hopefully the Herald will put some heft behind fighting this because we are too helpless without money to fight it.

When the legislature meets I shudder. What a bunch of turkeys they come up with.

Municipal attorneys and not county or city clerks are mistakenly in control of public records. This is the problem in a nutshell. The only records that should be off limits are medical records within a personnel file, law enforcement addresses, social security numbers and certain ongoing investigations, settlement negotiations and current bids.
Everything else that the public funds including communications on government owned lines as well as public business conducted on private lines is a public record. Anyway good luck to the Miami Herald.

We can all think of a few folks that should have been aborted and the legislature contains more than its fair share of them.

The abortion ban might come from the fear, that non expired corpses could be aborted out of office by angry constituents.

I always marvel at the fact, that nobody caught on to stand your ground folly, and applies it to the legislators.

Well your honor, I was in fear, cause the legislator threatened my live enjoyment, lively hood and necessity's of live! (Like clean drinking water) So I stud my ground.

Attaboy, Gavel sound, Next case please.

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation already mades it difficult to search condominium records. The police departments are going to want massive fees to edit body cameras footage. Building departments and code offices which had prior corruption already make it tedious to get records. Good luck getting a list from Miami Beach from all the bogus inspections from people who were arrested for corruption. That list will cost you millions.

Oh, too bad Van zant's egg got fertilized!

it is arbitrary to define human life starting with a fertilized egg. sperm are live organisms too. the right-to-lifers need to do more to protect all live human sperm

Genius,
You misjudged me; not religious at all. In fact, a mathematician and logics professor. I look at it from a logical point of view. If you can proof that a Homo Sapien live heart is not stopped, I will agree. Here's a great essay, please read it:
