Florida Inland Navigation District: FIND. By Geniusofdespair

The meeting is going on right now in Cocoa Beach. Don't know what it is? Well, look at your tax bill. It is a separate  line item you pay taxes on (the lowest tax on your bill) to keep your waterways and public water bodies maintained. They are doling out the money as I type. The city of Miami has more than 14 applications and about the County has about 5 where is Ft. Lauderdale, maybe they present on Saturday. The catch: the money must be matched and the area must remain public. Dan Pal Park got FIND money. Spencer Crowley is our Miami-Dade representative on FIND, he makes no money for this work. He helps get the money for us. I am in Cocoa Beach so I know what it going on with the 2 day yearly meeting. Land locked--- forget about it. Must be  navigable water. This is a big pot of money, I am surprised the legislature hasn't commandeered it.

Written on my iPhone, on the beach, under a towel so cut me some slack

Thank you for taking the time/effort to attend the meeting.

We need a kickstarter or something similar to support a full time enviro/corruption watchdog!

A HUGE THANK YOU TO SPENCER CROWLEY for getting the funds (about a million) to create Manatee Bend Park on the Little River/Canel west of Biscayne Boulevard at 77 Street. A wonderful little green park with manatee viewing!!! Steve Hagen, Atlanta

I didn't actually attend the meeting. I looked in and decided it was too boring. The only fireworks was towards Surfside. They took money for sea walls at the end of roadways and then put up signs saying no entry to the buffer area at the end of the road. The group suggested benches or Kayak launches in that area.

Also the Dan Paul Park area's lack of public access was brought up. It was reported that the fence was taken down and the chain with padlock was removed. Spencer Crowley had written a letter to the county asking for public access. The county is putting up a sign thanking FIND for helping with the sea wall.

Maybe Spencer could get money for public access waterfront walkway and return a public boat ramp on Virginia Key instead of letting the 1 percent want to anchor their mega yachts at the Miami Boat Show.

Not just a navigable waterway, must be part of the Intercoastal Waterway to qualify for FIND funding. The taxes are only collected in those counties that have the Intercoastal Waterway within their borders.

Can Spencer Crowley and FIND get the mysterious fence removed from Dan Paul Park? Dan Paul Park FKA Parcel B is owned by the public and FIND, taxpayers money, contributed millions to the seawall. While they are at it FIND and the County need to get the asphalt removed. Asphalt on a bay front park? Dumb.
