The Poll for the Next Mayor of Miami Dade County Pretty Close. By Geniusofdespair

Margin of error 4%

 From the Miami Herald:

The poll shows Regalado with 34 percent of the Hispanic vote, compared to 26 percent for Gimenez and 18 percent for Suarez. But Gimenez dominates in the other ethnic categories, taking 30 percent of the black vote (Regalado gets 10 percent and Suarez 12 percent) and 43 percent of the “white anglo” vote (compared to 8 percent for Regalado and 10 percent for Suarez.)

Regalado, a Spanish-language radio host, sees the numbers reflecting the core of her strategy: run up the score among Hispanic voters, then chip away at Gimenez’s decent showing with black voters and his popularity with anglo voters.

White vote?  Uninformed.

In the ethnic breakdown, the black vote is the most up for grabs, with 48 percent undecided. That voting bloc also a top priority for Gimenez’s political team. He’s taken high-profile roles in promoting a jobs program targeting black neighborhoods and announcing the relaunch of the Liberty Square housing complex in the heart of one of Miami’s most crime-ridden black neighborhoods.

The poll was conducted between Jan. 26 and Jan. 29. The ethnic mix was 58 percent Hispanic, and 20 percent each for white-anglo and black respondents.

When the poll asked Gimenez supporters why they liked him, 54 percent cited a good job done as mayor. Supporters of Regalado cited her work on the school board, and the desire for “fresh ideas.”

“The poll is consistent with the concerns that I’ve heard from Miami-Dade County residents and the desire for a change in leadership,” Regalado said.

Please someone else run! Why must voters choose among the corrupt and the crazy and the incompetent?

Suarez needs to stay put. Sarnoff is eyeing his seat, no pun intended.

Raquel Regalado and Carlos Gimenez both need to work for for-profit businesses before either can be qualified to be Mayor of Miami-Dade County. Gimenez's 40+ years as a union member and public sector employee prevents him from solving problems without bias. Regalado has never run anything. Yet she wants to be the supreme boss of a $6 Billion budget? Maybe she could open a lemonade stand first?

I'd like to see a timing chart on when our elected officials actually become active. It would actually be funny to see how the run up to an election has the bulk of "altruism" and "goodwill toward men" coming out of the woodwork.

Don't underestimate Raquel. With more name recognition she will be our next mayor. People who run make good hires as opposed to Gimenez who hired jack osterholt. You can't expect them to do it all by themselves.

On the front page of The Miami Herald today, Mayor Carlos Gimenez in secret negotiations with Donald Trump to privatize Key Biscayne Golf Course and make it a playground for the rich and powerful only. What kind of fools does this thief think we are? Meanwhile, his son Carlos Jr. lobbying for Trump and Trump contributing heavily to Gimenez's reelection campaign. Where does the corruption end in this county? Does any law enforcement official or prosecutor give a damn about the theft of public monies by a few corrupt public officials and lobbyists?

Of course we should give away our golf course! It's a valuable asset. Donald Trump likes valuable assets. Why do we have a valuable assets when a contributor wants it?

Will Raquel Regalado do the bidding of her tea party benefactor Braman if elected? Ugh.

Can't wait to see the giant "TRUMP" sign on the causeway!

Dear Mr. Beckham,

Based on your experiences with Miami-Dade County please contact Donald Trump immediately to inform him of the type of promises Mayor Carlos Gimenez offers during negotiations.

He rattles off deals without understanding consequences or consensus.

Billionaires need to stick together.

Regards,

A taxpayer.

If Gimenez could make a big impact on actually providing jobs in the Black communities, he will easily get their votes. If he could provide quantitative evidence of his performance in this regard, hope would come alive again for many. These communities would agressively seek his continuance in office. They have been pimped by so many leaders promising jobs and delivering nothing that it would be a big surprise for someone actually in office and seeking to maintain their office to actually deliver for them.

Gimenez is proposing developers make tens of millions of dollars destroying and rebuilding public housing. He is partnered with American Builders and Contractors (ABC) to "Employ Miami" - planning to use low-wage black workers to get the public housing job done. Does anyone else see this as exploitation? ABC is totally opposed to any wage policies to benefit local workers. They made their position totally clear in opposing Hardemon's efforts to win wage concessions on the WorldCenter project. The Liberty City housing scheme is nothing but another round of white contractors profiting from the Jim Crow legacy in Miami. Gimenez is just a greased politician making it happen for the ABC of Ft. Lauderdale.

If the jobs go to Black workers, and the housing is for Black people, it is OK.
