Juan, Juan, Juan, Say it Ain't So. By Geniusofdespair

Juan Zapata at his installation as County Commissioner. He is standing next to Jose Luis Castillo.

Yes, Juan Zapata did use the Greenpoint Group (Jose Luis Castillo) for his election campaign. Jose Luis Castillo is lobbying the county for:

LANDMARK DEVELOPMENT, CORP 2/6/2014
2014 SURTAX RFA-KEYS CROSSING, LTD & WILLOWLADE ASSOCIATES, LTD Open

KROME GROVES LAND TRUST 9/16/2013
CDMP/EAR BASED AMENDMENTS Open

ODEBRECHT CONSTRUCTION INC 6/5/2013
NONE Open

How I feel about finding out this, let me express it in a song:

If you use toxic campaign consultants who then lobby you, it is a breach of my personal ethics. Fuck the Ethics Department.  Wouldn't it be good if all the Commissioners said: "Leave the lobbyist's home - come by yourself - and donate the money you would have used for the lobbyists to charity."  Anyway, I consider Juan to be a moderate and not a great lover of the environment. He cares deeply about his district.

Awesome comments. And yes Castillo belongs in the big house not county hall

Disappointing.

Zapata has always been bad on land use/zoning from when he was in the legislator and turned up at a community council meeting which approved Krome Gold. He worked the US Century Gang for $$ and supports anything Juan Mayol is pushing.

Zapata is the one pushing for the 836 expansion to Krome which happens to land right at the foot print of Krome Gold and the other developers like DR Horton and the Parkland application.

Castillo works or worked for Juan Mayol as a people pusher to bring in supporters for bad applications.

Zapata is a right wing tea party supporter who voted time and time against funding public libraries while using the libraries for political events and self promotion events.

Castillo and Jorge Luis Lopez are scammers. Vote against whatever they are pushing.

It is up to the people to select their leaders. If one votes for a lobbyist/campaign manager---you get what you deserve, robbed.

If you vote for one that Lobbies -- we all get robbed.

AMEN GENIUS,
When you say, "wouldn't it be good if all the commissioners said, 'Leave the lobbyists home'
come by yourself--and donate the
money you would have used for the
lobbyists, to charity."

Juan Zapata does not surprise me. He wants to be mayor . In my opinion just another thief and another politician in politics and his crowd just keep sending him up the ladder to hurt us.

Then PLEASE tell us. Who is a clean politician? Who do we vote for?

Jose Luis Castillo, aka One Eye Jack, boletero king maker and friend of Gimenez! Not even the Purple Gang was as entrenched as these local hoodlums!

The forces of overdevelopment are excited all throughout Miami-Dade right now, they smell opportunity.

Mayol and Castillo have their sticky fingers everywhere these days. They now even reach into SE Dade where they manage the campaigns of local politicians that they then turn around and lobby to support bad applications for development. We know how that tawdry title scheme works. There has to be a way to stop this lobbyist/developer cartel because increasingly they have the politicians at all levels addicted to their drug; $$$$, campaign infrastructure, absentee ballots, and the desire to be elected and reelected at any cost. I think what we need is campaign/lobbyist reform at the county and municipal level. Reform that prevents lobbyists from managing or contributing to the campaigns of the very politicians that will then by necessity vote on issues the lobbyists represent! This is a growing cancer on our communities. And we all know the best first step in curing cancer is excision of the tumor. Let's start with Castillo and Mayol, those two malignancies.
