Shouldn't the County Stop Giving Raises to Top Brass and Give Money to Stadiums Instead? By Geniusofdespair

Two weeks ago, according to an informant, Lourdes Gomez was given a promotion to Assistant to the Deputy Mayor, Jack Osterholt. Who cares? Well I care about the $47,000 raise she was given. Doesn't it take money out of the pockets of Billionaire sports owners?

I found this on a Chinese website, about Osterholt:
Mayor Gimenez was suspiciously absent from the meeting.
Former Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina get's an Acquital

I also care about the acquittal given to the Robaina's - if the glove don't fit you have to acquit. They must have had one or two jurors that refused to budge and got tired of trying to convince them and just wanted the damn thing to end. According to the Miami Herald:

After the verdicts were read, U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro excused the jurors and ordered that the courtroom be locked for 15 minutes so that reporters could not follow them as they left the federal courthouse.
This verdict sucks.

Jack Osterholt is embarrassing. The fact that Carlos Gimenez hired him and that he forces the taxpayers to pay him is a huge problem for Gimenez.

Yes, blocks do suck. Putz.

Julio Robaina and wife found NOT GUILTY of all charges by a jury of their peers. That settles that. Now, let's hope he runs for Mayor to get rid of the clown who now holds the seat.

Your facts are a little off but I'm glad you exposed this scam. Two weeks ago, county employee Lourdes Gomez WAS GIVEN A PROMOTION to
Deputy Director of RER Department. She used to be an Assistant to Deputy Mayor Jack Osterholt. She received a salary raise from $100k to $147k from Osterholt and is now a deputy director at Regulatory and Economic Resources RER Department (former Planning/DERM/ Building and Zoning). This lady is unqualified and has been on the 29th floor for 10 years. They take away from the poor and give to their friends. Mayor Gimenez just gave Ed Marquez a $22k raise. Something has to be done about all this waste!!

Actually YOUR facts are wrong ! Lourdes is not only a workaholic but she is extremely effective and just brilliant . How many County employees do you know who hold an advanced degree from Harvard ? Envy is a nasty thing pal ..

Ref. above anon, what you describe as envy is simply preservation of our budget- something our greedy mayor has chosen to deplete. Harvard degree or not, at a time when employees are losing their meager wages and benefits, no fat cat should be receiving a $47k raise. Add the $22k raise just received by Marquez and you get the idea of what's happening here. Problem is, connected folk such as yourself, enjoy keeping these sort of things quiet so you can get away with the deed. They are PUBLIC EMPLOYEES, paid with our taxes and we have the right to question such abusive tactics. Now run to your master and let him know we are well aware of his underhanded tactics.

Didn't someone say earlier on this blog that Marquez was the Finance Director? If he is, he is THE one holding this county together. A lot of people can go, but in a place like this with crooks in every corner, with all kinds a plots and plans to get taxpayer money, he is the one who has to balance the books and make it all work. Whatever he makes, he deserves it.

As the finance director, he has a "$200" or so million gap and the only answers I've heard is siphoning reserves, giving away subsidies and floating bonds. All answers are timed to hurt homeowners when this mayor is term limited out of office.

After last Sunday's Jim Defede show, a politico cordito comment:

All of a sudden the $208 million dollar hole is more like half..and he says he’s budgeting for the workers promised snapbacks in September AND leaving their healthcare alone.. He suddenly realized he can meet service level without tax increases or first line worker layoffs by pushing desk jockeys back on the streets. ironic, exactly what the unions have been saying for years. Wonder if he is trying to placate them to stay out of district 8 this summer? - See more at: http://www.politicalcortadito.com/2014/04/26/gimenez-on-cbs-4-port-soccer-stadium-site-is-just-viable/#sthash.JJAPq8JZ.dpuf

Since our mayor's statements have not been consistent, believing that his finance deputy is holding this county together is not believable.

The only point I was disagreeing with is that she is not qualified . She is ! End of story . Most reasonable people would agree . The job pays what the job pays I suppose . By the way , seriously I am not a public employee just a humble tax payer who benefitted from her help and hate injustices .

Is it REALLY an advanced degree from Harvard?

Please take a close look at it. Or is it a certificate for having attended the "Program for Executives in Local Government"?

Several years ago manager Burgess arranged for the Harvard JFK School of Government to conduct some presentations at the Government Center and dept directors and assistants were invited to attend. It was a two-day workshop, paid by the County. Many county employees have that certificate hanging on their walls.

Ed Marquez was involved in the Marlins Scam. As an outside consultant/lobbyist he "blessed" the crooked numbers.

To say that Ed Marquez "should make" whatever salary the mayor deems appropriate is not only irresponsible but narrow minded. Ed Marquez is the conduit by which this mayor executes his will. Marquez is the man who controls the numbers and he is responsible for carrying out the disastrous mayor's agenda that has destroyed county infrastructure. Of course the mayor will give him a raise, that is the equivalent to hush monies for ensuring more county contracts and payouts of public monies go to the likes of Jorge Luis Lopez, Marcelo Llorente, Freddy Balsera, Rafael Garcia Toledo and a cast of unsavory characters. Wake up Miami-Dade County, you are being fleeced by a small group of well to do public officials.

There is no question he serves at the will of this mayor, or any mayor we elect, but his base knowledge of county operations and skill sets in balancing the books is critical to the community.

Anonymous said...

Not as critical as meriting a salary of $250k a year plus benefis which comes to roughly $500k. Marquez is part of the good ole boy network. Stop stealing our tax dollars. The county budget is not a personal piggy bank.

Marquez was out of public service for years. He worked for a little company which got government contracts. Ed always says whatever his bosses tell him to say. No independence. The taxpayers get screwed, as usual.

Was able to just now verify Gomez college degrees . Bachelors and Masters both from Harvard . It appears she held a job at the institution as well . For whatever is worth it peaked my curiosity and it took me a while but the info is fully reliable .

Lourdes Gomez is a Harvard alumnus. Unlike Katy Sorenson, who had the County pay $9,500 for her fees to attend the "Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program" so she could have her Harvard Certificate, Lourdes actually went to Harvard and earned a real degree. Why is it that when one smart woman finally earns 60% of what Gimenez pays his Deputy Mayors, everyone wants to degrade her? Oh wait, Lourdes Gomez is Cuban...I forgot.

The Gimenez team strikes again.

Looks like we are Detroit bound. . .

I thought someone with a degree from Harvard would not stand a chance of getting a job at the county. With so many intellectually limited family and friends employed there, it is amazing that they actually hired someone with talent who could think. But we see from these posts, they are working hard to get her out.

With so many cognitively-challenged people working for the county, it makes sense that with basic thinking skills she would immediately rise from the ranks.

She started at the bottom ; well beneath what cousin Al would accept !

Gimenez makes all the decisions. Too bad for us.
