Free Land! Get it Here in Miami Handsome Soccer Icon. By Geniusofdespair

Lookin' Good David! No wonder our County Mayor and Commission have stars in their eyes instead of firing neurons in their brains.
If the port master plan is in any way viable---and if  it isn't why did they do it---The port property conceivably could be some of the most valuable land in Florida.

The Underwear modeling former soccer player should be paying a price that is a comparable value of what Genting paid per square ft. For The Herald property.

The County needs at least two independent appraisals not one cooked by county staff.

WHAT IS THE REAL VALUE OF THE LAND WE ARE GIVING OVER TO SOCCER STADIUM? Will we get paid for it or will we give it away in a convoluted deal?

Speaking of free stuff - Pepe Diaz and the worthless ITC are off to Korea in May. This trip is targeted during a high tech conference in Miami .. Korea ..? Why?

He is sooooo HOT!!!!!

However, not hot enough to get OUR public land on he water. Any commissioner approving this inside done deal deflecting the issue with the "not tax dollars" but the fact, our very valuable public land, should be term out at the ballot box in 2014, including the village idiots in Tallahassee when the MLS comes begging for tax rebates.

GIVING OUR PUBLIC LAND AWAY IS ACTUALLY WORSE THEN THEN BILLION DOLLAR BOND DEAL for the Marlins. Very clever marketing already not mentioning OUR land, like OUR library's are just free stuff to give away without regard for the public who actually own this stuff!

So...Miami-Dade County spent $1 billion on a Port Tunnel, hundreds of millions more on new gantry cranes, and deep dredging the Port channels to accommodate the world's largest freighters so Miami could capitalize on international trade and become the new Singapore...and never mind. Let's just build a soccer/casino/hotel complex at the Port instead. hahahaha

Dear Mayor Gimenez: I wish you would have the same enthusiasm and fervor as you show the soccer man for stuff us taxpaying citizens can really use and benefit from: pubic libraries, parks, transit, affordable housing, water and sewer and bridge upgrades you know... stuff that our taxpaying dollars and yes, tourist tax dollars should be going to.

Is that a mustache? Get rid of the mustache. I have no neurons working when looking at these pictures. If he shaves the mustache he can have whatever he wants.

Dear Mayor Gimenez,

Apparently you are suffering from amnesia. Do you remember your predecessor, FORMER Mayor Carlos Alvarez? Many people booted him out of office because of the Marlin Stadium deal. Do you really think it is wise to take this same path?

PortMiami needs is land, all of it. What happens if, in 2-20 years, PortMiami needs to expand? How will PortMiami expand if a soccer stadium is using 6-20 acres? PortMiami operates 365 days a year. Gimenez better not give away our economic future just because he wants his photo taken with David Beckham.

Thanks for including our new logo. It's never been more appropriate then today when we're about to be robbed of our waterfront land for no real benefit to the resident's of Miami Dade as an entirety, just people who like soccer or beckham.

They will come up with some deal that looks good, like the AA Arena deal where Basketball properties was supposed to share revenue, but never did due to their creative bookkeeping or PBL contract obligation to build a pedestrian overpass from the arena to Bayside, then didn't. You can bet corrupt Port Co-director Juan Kuryla with his shady background, is involved and representing special interests. He is favored by this administration and commission because of his ability to cater to their needs, including numerous junkets like the June 2014 trip he is organizing to Spain and France for insiders paid by taxpayers and all the others including Diaz's trip to Korea. The 2014 Port budget also includes a $5 million item for payment in a legal judgment against the County for a judges ruling that the Port of Miami has a way of doling certain business permits illegally protecting incumbents -- ``creating a handful of entrenched privileged companies". The judge said evidence showed other ``established, qualified, competent and trustworthy companies were denied permits even as some incumbents who didn't use their permits received automatic renewals". Kuryla works the backchannels and selection process, where privileged insiders are awarded business, land deals, and taken on travel junkets while those who are not tied into the system of lobbyists, commissioner aides and certain County staff are denied. Kuryla got a 70% salary increase to $300,000 for his "talents".

The Port needs it's land more than anyone realizes. Just ONE new-generation Giant container ship from the newly widened Panama Canal, unloading at the Port (the kind that we built the tunnel, are dredging to 50ft, and purchased mammoth new cranes for) requires 100 acres of port property to unload. Port Miami has less than 300 acres for all it's cargo operations. The numbers don't add up. Turning port property over to non-port commercial development is irresponsible. It also is in violation of the covenant that established the port on Dodge Island. It will be interesting to see how they get around that, ( or ignore it completely).

Until sea level rises catches up, insider dealing will be untouchable in Miami.

I believe they are looking at Watson Island -- where Parrot Jungle is -- not Dodge Island. It would be the lot on the turning basin side of the island, adjacent to the seaplane base. The value of all that land is $23 million, according to the PA's site. Regardless, if we're going to let a private entity have it (which we shouldn't because the public could do FAR better things with the land than build another monument to minimum wage, government subsidized, indentured servitude) we should auction it off to the highest bidder. I can almost guarantee you that WON'T be Beckham and his monied interests.

Hmmm the Parrot Jungle land is exactly what the Sands Casino owners wanted for their hotel- retail complex and casino in the future. AND Beckham is also the spokesperson for the Sands Casinos in Asia AND Mayor Gimenez wants casinos AND voila Welcome to the Miami Sands Casino courtesy of Miami taxpayers!

No, it is Dodge Island, the SW corner near Caribbean Cruise Line offices. Prime port land, belonging to taxpayers of Miami-Dade Co.

The Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Public Trust approved a report regarding complimentary event tickets on March 1, 2012 titled “Guidelines and Recommendations Regarding ‘Public Benefit’ Clauses in Certain Government Contracts” (Attachment A), and issued an addendum on March 29, 2012 clarifying “official function” (Attachment B). On June 11, 2012, the County Mayor provided a report to the Board, attached as Attachment C, that contained a summary of current agreements between the County and other entities which provide for complimentary tickets as well as other events/facilities for which the County also customarily receives complimentary tickets.

The tennis center site is on County owned property and the agreement has a site sponsorship benefits package that includes County identification on the stadium court walls, advertising in the official tournament program, regular announcements on the electronic scoreboard system, recognition on the sponsor board, and an allocation for courtside boxes, tickets, and passes. The value of the allocation for courtside boxes, tickets, and passes the 2014 Tennis Tournament is $102,000. The 2014 Sony Open runs from March 17 to March 30.
It is recommended that the County not receive its ticket allocation from IPC of the courtside boxes, tickets and passes for the 2014 tennis tournament and instead receive a cash payment of $102,000. The funds of $102,000 received will be divided evenly among the 13 County Commission Districts, in the amount of $7,846 per Commission District. Upon receipt of the check from IPC, funds will be deposited by OMB into a separate account. Commissioners will allocate their funds to support park and recreation programming and services at County park(s) or for youth, charitable or any other organization fulfilling a public purpose or function via resolution at a Board of County Commissioners meeting, and OMB will process the allocations accordingly. This is the same procedure used for the 2013 Sony Open, approved by the Board at its January 23, 2013 meeting by Resolution No. R-24-13. A Letter of Agreement between the County and IPC (Attachment D) setting forth the payment of $102,000 in lieu of tickets for the 2014 tennis tournament is recommended for Board approval.

With respect to the other events, facilities and activities the County has a partnership in, such as the City of Homestead/Homestead-Miami Speedway, Santa’s Enchanted Forest, and Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo. Inc., and for which the County receives complimentary tickets, the Board approved a policy and process for distribution of these tickets at its January 23, 2013 meeting under R-24-13.

PortMiami will need to expand someday. How could Bill Johnson or Carlos Gimenez do anything to eliminate the ability for PortMiami to expand? How stupid are the commissioners?

Anonymous said...

Soccer group is lobbying the state. Another scam using the tourism theme. Beckham United will seek a state sales-tax subsidy. Lease agreement will be a mess, like the fraudulent Miami Beach convention center plan that was not released to citizens until the end. Citizens are too dumb to understand lease agreements and hotel contracts.

The deal will be so convoluted and complicated like the other sports stadiums/arena deals we won't know what hit us until it is too late. We were supposed to share some from profits from the HEAT after all these years we got about $200,000. That was a great deal. Expect one like that with Beckhans.

Any business starting with Miami Dade County and u pick sports team = we're screwed taxpayer!

Don't tell me it's privately funded while lobbyists are up in Tallahassee working for some type of tax deal and using public land. The local press isn't giving the whole story.

The people in the county need to stop voting these people in to office across the board and need to be screaming a lot louder against these tax payer rip offs, which is what they are.

Beckham says there will be "bumps in the road", ahead. LOL. He must surely know that Miami is place where thieves get such a long period of grace before having to scram, that getting money in and out will be no problem. Plus you have elected officials who are enablers from the inside. Taxpayers should be mailed packets of Vaseline along with their yearly tax bills.

To take something out of this article, I think land for the team should be purchased from a private owner, not the county (US), and the soccer fans can pay for it by going to see the games, but hey, that only works in private business, not the Tea Party plan of campaign contributors and public land/tax dollar give aways.

First, there isn't any deal on the table yet to criticize. As much as i might dislike or mistrust Mayor Gimenez, I will give him a chance to negotiate something before I open my pie hole, one way or another.

That said, I can't imagine anyone at Metro having the audacity to sign one of those "percent of 'profits' " scams like the Heat extracted from taxpayers.

I also am tired of the mayor's son getting hired on these big deals, working in the shadows as a "public affairs consultant" or "lawyer" so he doesn't have to register as a lobbyist.

Second, I would rather the county build a CONVENTION CENTER and HOTEL at the port.

Miami Beach will take forever to do anything with the convention center on that dysfunctional island, and it's highly unlikely they will build an anchor hotel because of the Fouintainbleu/Wolfson opposition.

Third, a stadium or convention center might just be the catalyst needed to jumpstart decent transpo options in that area, make it far more pedestrian/bike friendly and alleviate gridlock.

Genting also is a factor here. I think they can be a force for good when it comes to sensible urban planning.

Someone needs to have skin in the game before anything gets done in this town. But we'll see.

This is Miami, bitches!!!!

That's my 2 centavos!

All this Crap about a soccer stadium and who's even thinking about the magnitude of gridlock this monster would cause with all the other conglomeration of enter-
