Expect the long knives to come out for Lynda Bell. She's proved that she doesn't have the pull that people expected her to have. Watch John DuBois, Vice Mayor of Palmetto Bay, begin circling Bell. Although he supported Mark Bell, the man has ambitions to rise higher than the Palmetto Bay City Council. Gene Flinn ran a terrible campaign 3 years ago. Expect that he'll want to get back in the race for a rematch with Bell.
Again, I will say it ... even if you liked Lynda Bell (and I know this would not be the blog to find those folks) I am not sure that it was entirely appropriate for the county commissioner who presides over Homestead to have her husband as the mayor. I suspect there are folks who did not dislike Mr. Bell but who struggled with that aspect of this race. Checks and balances are already scarce enough in this county.
Congratulations Jeff! You can be proud of the campaign you ran, clean and without rancor.
Character counts and you showed it during the myriad attacks sent your way. The people were with you and that is something money cannot buy. It also cannot buy integrity and humility as evidenced by your unpretentious and warm speech. It was a breath of fresh air.
I truly believe your election is the start of a bright and new day in Homestead. I am confident that with your leadership and humility, Homestead will be on its way back to relevancy.
Simply put, you weathered the storm with dignity and aplomb and I am proud to call you my mayor.
One Bell down, one to go. A bucket of special interest money probably out fund raising 4 to 1 when you include the PAC/ECO versus a group of really pissed off voters = really pissed off voters winning!
Lynda Bell lost Homestead once in 2009, she lost it twice now in 2013. She'll lose her District 8 seat in 2014, which cannot come soon enough.
I wonder what Rosen & his super freak buddy's are going to do now? I wonder what the rock miners are going to do now? Castillo may have to go on a diet, financially and otherwise.
Note to the Herald, Mark Bell is not an Inn Keeper, he's a puppet of his wife and is really an assistant plumber, which he may want to consider going back to doing.
Porter should run from Shiver. So should the entire council. Shiver can't get a job in the real world because he just doesn't have the brain capacity. Maggie Valley anyone? Those are his private sector skills. Steve Shiver is running out of places of people to screw. The Homestead taxpayers will not put up with one more Shiver give a way. Council members be warned now!
I can't stop laughing. Lynda Bell must be so pissed off along with her benefactors. I wonder if there's donor regret going on with her re election funding.
Today is a great day for South Dade! Porter certainly is no prize but he's certainly better then another whacked out Bell in public office living off of even more of our tax dollars!
Listen, understand that the Bell donors look at this campaign finance as just a cost of doing business. Even if they lose, they win because they have a Joe Martinez or Dorrin Rolle or Pedro Reboredo or Javier Souto in their back pockets. Nothing will stop them but tides that flood out their land.

Yahoo!!!!
No longer " Bell of the Ball"!
We want a recount!
Thank goodness.
Mark Bell had a couple of hundred thousand dollars to get 1,341 votes.

Deserved!
Redland Hotel's got their Bellboy back...

And Steve Shiver has already been seen in City of Homestead buildings looking for the handouts

The hangover that Porter has this morning is nothing compared to the one Homestead would have had if Bell had won.
I wonder who ran the hotel if the innkeeper and boss were out fundraising?
Lynda Bell, batter up!

No nookie for Mark last night. None of those "special wake ups" this morning for him either.
Look at that, Waldman can hear a camera taking pictures from 5 miles away. Reminds me of the pictures of her and Bateman
Yeah Waldman looked sooooo happy when she was pairing up with Bateman. I'd be verrrry careful about getting my picture taken with her.....
