Ernesto Perez in the news … by gimleteye

Today's Miami Herald features "Troubled past casts cloud over powerful college CEO" and Ernesto Perez, who EOM has written about, as recently as last April. The report details the huge campaign contributions and Miami Dade political officials, including Eric Fresen, County Commissioner Estaban Bovo, state representative Rudy Garcia, former Gables mayor Don Slesnick, and the wife of the former mayor of Homestead Steve Bateman, among others. The for-profit "medical college" shows, in a snapshot, how the charter school/ private education model has turned into a political slush fund; it's a form of organized enterprise that deserves its own RICO Act.

I saw some press release about the "Southernmost University" a few months agao where Slesnick and some other State Rep's were speakers. This article filled in the dots on that because I had never heard of it before. Another education scam brought to you by a bi partisan crew of a group who knows nothing about higher education except how to get student loans for their students! This may be worse then the Medicare scams, not because of the dollar amount but because of the young people being sold careers which leave them with nothing but debt. Vote them all out in 2014 in Tallahassee & locally.

Perez's medical school has taken over multiple buildings on multiple blocks in old homestead---- if this college collapses this will be the final nail in the coffin of old homestead.

The quaint business community on Krome disappeared under the watch of shiver and flim flam of his grant supported cult buddies.

Old Homestead needs to literally be vacated and built a new. I've never seen so much good money thrown at bad people, inept people, with no vision or experience trying to re invent without any urban planning experience. So many good and new ideas have fallen to the way side along with good people trying to help. It deserves to be a ghost town and those CRA recipients should reimburse every dime back to the County due to total failure, not just lack of performance.
