Why Does Naming Stuff in Miami Have to Take a Bizarre Turn? By Geniusofdespair

Arthur Teele Took His Life in the Miami Herald Lobby
Yesterday City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence Jones named a theater after former County Commissioner Arthur Teele.  I liked him a hell of a lot better than Stephen P. Clark and Clark has that big monolith County building named after him not a dinky little theater.  We even have buildings named after a housewife nobody knows -- Lynda Bell's mother. Thank you Lynda Bell for that one. I love having a building with $10 million dollars of public money invested in it, with your mom's name on it.

Both Teele and Clark died before they had any trial so I guess you can say "Who cares who we name buildings after as long as 'the named' were never in jail or that they were good to their daughter."

I liked Arthur Teele a lot. Rest in peace, but don't know that I would name anything after him...except an affordable housing complex in Cutler Bay.

Art Teele took his life in the Herald lobby because David Lawrence and Alvah Chapman put him there.

I'd rather have Teele's name on the Genting casino on the ruins of the Herald. THAT would have him laughing wherever he is.

@anonymous 1 - art teele made the bed that he laid in. He was an important person in this city's history but it doesn't change what he did to lead him to suicide.

Arthur Teele was a disgrace to his constituents. He was indicted for corruption because he was corrupt. He owed over $1 Mil to the IRS and he wore $1,200 suits. $1,200 suits on a $500 per month salary? No visible means of support? Massive debts? Teele shot himself because he was smart enough to know he was guilty and he was smart enough to know the Feds had the evidence to convict. Now Spence-Jones? There's a woman who is out of control.

Typical. Spence-Jones wants to name a taxpayer financed building after a corrupt elected official.

Blanche park should be renamed after Sarnoff's dogs

Please tell me how much of my tax money was wasted re-naming that building after LYNDA BELL's mother. I am so very happy Lynda got un-elected before she could name the new Homestead city hall after her mommy dearest.
Anyone who raises a child to behave in such a pathetic manor should never have a booth at Denny's named after her, much less a city hall. Truck stops are too good for these people!

How about Spence-Jones naming TWO taxpayer owned buildings after disgraced Arthur Teele? The only thing that prevented Teele from going to jail was a bullet.

I used to think this blog supported honesty and good government. With his bribes and shakedowns of contractors, Teele was more corrupt than anyone we have now. He committed suicide rather than face an inevitable prison sentence. You should be condemning the naming of government buildings after a known thief, rather than wondering what the controversy is about.

Maria you had better put on your reading glasses because you are obviously misunderstood the blog.

Arthur Teele had a high IQ. Unfortunately he used his intelligence to exploit the system for his own gain. He essentially stole from black people. His list of crimes was long. Teele laughed at the system he so easily exploited. Once cornered he quit. He was smart enough to know he was guilty. Spence should be ashamed of herself. Waste of the taxpayers money.

Why does Spence name expensive City buildings after slick corrupt politicians who wear expensive suits?

Teele was a slick con man. Too bad Spence is a bad judge of people.
