The Everglades Foundation: Setting the Record Straight on Big Sugar's Lying Post Card Campaign. By Geniusofdespair

I complained in a recent post about the lying flyers I was getting from those bastards -- big sugar interests.

They were saying that the job of restoring the Everglades was almost done -- note the word "Finish." In the flyer they show one puzzle piece left saying we are in "The Final Phase of Restoration".  I know enough about the Everglades to know that IS NOT TRUE.

I asked Dawn Shirreffs, Senior Everglades Policy Advisor for the Everglades Foundation what was the scoop with these lyin' flyers. Here is her quote:
"No one believes that we are at the final stage of restoring America’s Everglades. It is disingenuous for the sugar industry to suggest otherwise. There is much to be done such as the implementation of the critical Central Everglades Planning Project which will help move water south from Lake Okeechobee. We also need funding for construction of the C-43 and C-44 reservoirs to help stem pollution in the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie Rivers.

We look forward to working with everyone who cares deeply about protecting America’s Everglades – the water supply for 7 million Floridians."
By the way Dawn, congratulations on your new job!

Big sugar is right up there with Mosaic fertilizer and their constant TV ads telling us what good stewards they are. Guess what? Deeds speak louder than words but too many people are swayed by these feel good campaigns. It's like Fox news that feels it necessary to tell us they are "Fair and balanced". If they were fair and balanced we would know it without them telling us. Just like we would know if the Everglades was "almost" restored.Don't be sucked in people.
