Vanessa Brito has a Monumental Task: Equal Marriage Florida. By Geniusofdespair

The two sentence text of the amendment. Sign the petitions.
Vanessa Brito is trying to get Marriage Equality on the State Ballot.  Doing a State Ballot is not an easy task. I was part of the Florida Hometown Democracy effort. We got it on the ballot (it took us 4 years) and then the likes of Wayne Huizenga funded against us with a voter misinformation campaign. So we got it on the ballot and then we were defeated because we didn't have the funds to fight the lies.  Equal Marriage Florida is going to need nearly 1 million signatures (that will give them a cushion as the election departments love to disqualify the petitions). Brito is a co-chair of the group, Equal Marriage Florida -- a new PAC.  I looked up the PAC and could not find it listed yet in the State or County. The National chair is Warren Meyer and the co-chair is Erin Ogletree Simpson.

Brito is banking on that times have changed since the gay marriage ban passed by 62% of Florida voters in 2008.  Thankfully, Brito's Amendment is written clearly and it is short. Nothing is worse than trying to explain an Amendment to Mr. and Mrs. Everybody.

I guess anyone differing with the real Ms. Britto is considered a vendetta.

No. Look at your comment again. We don't recognize that one.

I am amazed how some people just love to spew hate...Vanessa is a true leader, a person who we should hold in high regard. Equality in Florida is not an easy task. If anyone is going to pull it off it will be her.

Thank you for deleting hateful comments. Ms.Brito is a leader and a true champion of equality. God knows we need her in Florida.

It is only one person who leaves the hateful comments. I know because I get them too.

while the project is extremely worthwhile, I am doubtful of Ms. Brito's "leadership" skills...
maybe she will surprise me and other folks who do not trust her.

I am amazed how some individuals just love to spew hate and disinformation. I am equally amazed how these same individuals can so shameless disrespect and hate the will of the people of Florida democratically expressed at the ballot box in a fair, reasoned, open and democratic vote. Floridians already overwhelmingly and democratically voted for Marriage Equality when they approved the Florida Marriage Equality Amendment in 2008. In Florida, everyone has an EQUAL right to get married under the same, objective, EQUAL terms and conditions as EVERYONE else. Because this same, objective, EQUAL criterion applies EQUALLY to everyone in Florida, it is completely false to assert that there is any discrimination whatsoever. When will some people stop the hate and find time to respect the will of Florida’s people?

When will they stop agitating, and find time to understand that they simply do not have the right to invent their own subjective, private definition of Marriage, nor their own subjective, private definition of Equality, nor their own subjective, private definition of Male or Female? When will they get over it???

You Dr. are the only one talking about hate. What is wrong with trying another amendment? They have to pay for the petition gathering. It is no skin off your back. It is not hateful to love someone. Who are you to judge who that should be?

when it was the "will" of the people of the south to maintain slavery, was that ok? NO!! They were wrong then and you Dr. are wrong now. The tide is shifting, and you my dear are on the wrong side of history. Move over, because "aint" nobody gonna stop this train. Got it?
