County Commissioner Lynda Bell Baffles "Miami Today"...and Me! By Geniusofdespair

Michael Lewis of Miami Today was stumped by Lynda Bell's resolution. He said:
"The resolution by Commissioner Lynda Bell doesn't say why she wants the county administration to make the study other than "the full contribution of these colleges and universities on the local economy has not been measured." Apparently, just a quest for knowledge for knowledge's sake.
If the full commission later approves, the resolution would tell the county administration it has 90 days to measure it. That's hurry-up knowledge. Among things the county would have to measure would be the impact of each college or university with enrollment of 2,000 or more – although it seems logical to measure every college or university of any size if you really need to know the impact."
I couldn't figure out why Bell is doing this and either could Michael Lewis. He said:
One question is, why is the county government about to be set to the task – that is, what do we expect the county to use the study results for? The other question is, why do it now, with a 90-day window to get it done? What's the rush?
Please take the time to read Michael Lewis's article.  He thinks the study Bell is requesting is not necessary because the targeted large  schools have this kind of information at their fingertips. They will likely supply the county with the data if the study is approved.

Mayor Gimenez with Jorge Luis Lopez
There is always a method to Lynda Bell's madness but she does trip up. I looked at the dates. The Bell resolution PDF was sent by the County Attorney to Commission Chair Sosa on June 11, 2013. I then searched the Lobbyist registration.

On June 5, 2013 Florida International University hired lobbyist Jorge Luis Lopez (Mayor Gimenez's good friend). NOW THINGS ARE STARTING TO ADD UP.

Below is the full resolution Lynda Bell is trying to push to give cover for something that I now believe FIU wants badly. What they want, I do not know (but I am sure it involves tax dollars). I am hoping one of our readers does know what Lynda Bell is up to and can share it with us. Also note, that Jorge Luis Lopez also has a lobbying contract open with the University of Miami since 2010.

Could there be a connection to Dade Medical College down in Homestead where her husband is running for Mayor?

it's a make-work project for Lopez and another massive distractive for county staff.

The dates of the resolution and the lobbyist registration appears to be more than a coincidence. One only has to check lobbyist registrations to know what is coming up in the county.

A plot to get money? You think Lynda is generating a study that will show that the colleges help the economy because the schools will virtually be supplying all the data for the county generated report and then the schools will ask for some subsidy based on the study's positive results? It sounds like a movie script to me.

She did the same thing with the wetlands task force: Create something, not needed, in such a way that you know that it will qualify what you actually want, i.e. you know the outcome because you made the parameters for that outcome. Then blame it on the data/entity. Very lobbyist of her.

Conspiracy theorist. I think this is more about getting back at the Homestead Medical college head that Mayor Bateman is tight with. Do they have 2,000 students? Lynda is about revenge hence the candidacy of her husband for Mayor.

FIU admin still wants the Tamiami Park fairgrounds for expansion and still wants county to do a land swap involving south Dade wetlands.

This is typical Lynda Bell in action. Yes, there is certainly more to this. She is everywhere in every bodies business and things that she should not be concern with. Lynda Bell is the neighbor staying home all day peeping out the curtain reporting and gossiping on other folks business.
Lynda please for god sakes mind District 8 business. Everyone is appreciative to have these educational institutions in our communities. Now you want to start shaking them down for money?

Anonymous said...

Is she trying to promote a specific institution she feels is under appreciated or overly promoted as to their impact?

As for FDI perhaps she should read the extensive educational Asset report of One Community, One Goal put out by the Beacon Council. http://www.beaconcouncil.com/webdocs/Foundation/ocogflyersep282012.pdf

This is busy work with no significant ROI for the large amount of resources required to meet the objectives cited in resolution.

90 days with county staff??

Unless they just ask institutions for their own surveys and have independent experts review, this will be another make work useless exercise.

Even if completed what is the purpose? Work for Jorge Luis Lopez?

Ms Bell read ALL four reports of One Community, One Goal who are engaged and set up the academic leaders Council.

She doesn't want to shake them down. She wants to shake us down for money for them.

Has anyone called Bell or the lobbyist to ask them directly? Conspiracies are natural to think about because of who is involved.

Also, consider what has to happen to University and Colleges in the timespan beyond the 90 days. In 90 days, most unversities begin their fall semester. There also could be a Tallahassee meeting to approve public monies where this study would be used. Similarly, consider that these Universities and Colleges are looking to establish a statistical baseline for public benefit. If I were to appeal for the lease or transfer of ownership of public land to a school then I would want to prove that giving to the school is a much better use of the land. Plus, this statistical research will be farmed to someone connected to all this.

To this anon:

"FIU admin still wants the Tamiami Park fairgrounds for expansion and still wants county to do a land swap involving south Dade wetlands."

This was my first thought too. The other one may have to do with raising taxes for Miami Dade CC.

Who knows.

Whatever it is it is going to use public money or land for something for some reason, that I will guarantee 100% and it won't be for the community benefit or friendly to our environment either!

Has anyone ever looked at Carlos Gimenez's shoes?! They give him 2-3 inch lift! This is a small man.

Really....shoes?

No doubt Honey Boo Boo Bell has enlisted the help of MDPD in obtaining the IP addresses of all y'all with the audacity to negatively comment on, take issue with, and / or criticize Her Royal Highness via keyboard.

Paranoid and absurd as this may sound but it would not surprise me in the least that she will sue the living crap outta anyone who crosses Her for Defamation of Character, etc., in the LIKELY event Her sorry ass loses on "E-lek-shun" day.

why not the CGPD does it?
