Voting against the Dolphin Deal. By Geniusofdespair

Xavier Suarez, Esteban Bovo and Juan Zapata voted NOT to endorse the Marlin Dolphin package at today's County Commission meeting.  Thanks guys. I originally said Souto, my mistake.

Remember the Marlins. Vote No on the bailout to benefit the billionaire.

I really hope that this does not pass. It is absolutely absurd!

If you vote absentee, make sure you renew your request for a ballot. The renewal notices just went out (over 100,000) and if you don't renew ASAP, you will not be receiving a ballot.

There will be 20 early voting sites, and every precinct will be open on election day.

A Yes vote means you are voting to increase your taxes. Please VOTE NO.

A yes vote doesn't increase your taxes unless you stay in a hotel here. Even then, it won't affect the hotels on the beaches.

I know everyone is hating on the Marlins deal - for good reason - but get a grip.

As usual, the news is getting the info all wrong.

the Mayors deal provides up to 7.5 million per year to the dolphins, adjusted upward by 3%. the county doesn't borrow money, doesn't issue bonds, and isn't responsible for the upkeep of the stadium. at least $112 million is paid back after 30 years.

The upside is that all of the public funds come from tourists, there will be $350 million in improvements to joe robbie stadium including construction jobs in a weak economy, and we'll get to sit in the shade at games.

The downside of the deal is that it helps a rich dude.

Vote against it if you want, but at least look at the facts first.

I have already checked on my absentee ballot for the election, but I am worried about the efficacy of the final numbers. The 2,500 fradulent absentee ballots in the last election sticks in my mind. Have we located, determined the methodology used, arrested and prosecuted the hacker/s yet? Could it happen again and be successful? What guarantees are in place to assure voters that no cheating takes place? Exactly who monitors the elections process to give voters some level of confidence that there is an absence of cheating?

Vote No. If taxes go up it means you will pay more in taxes if you eat at a hotel restaurant or use a hotel bar. Also it means less money for that hotel to use on renovations. Less money means that hotel will have to fire employees or pay them less.
