Making a difference: Caroline Lewis, and, Correcting the Miami Herald ... inattention? who knows ... by gimleteye

On April 11th, the Miami Herald -- through McClatchy news feed -- reported that the White House honored a Broward County scientist who "helped launch a multi-county initiative" to address sea level rise.

It's not clear why Miami's only daily newspaper failed to take note that Miami's Caroline Lewis, the founder of the CLEO Institute, was honored in the same White House event.

Ms. Lewis, a distinguished and leading educator who founded the Fairchild Environmental Challenge, is dedicating spirit, energy, and considerable skill to involving our community and raising awareness of climate change related issues.

The White House recognition was well deserved. Here's to hoping the Miami Herald finds a way to give her credit, too.

Please. I'm sure some AP reporter wrote the story with no connection to Miami whatsoever.

There's practically civil unrest in Miami Shores over the election of the first Latina to city council with threats of violence and recalls (she hasn't even been sworn in yet). Where's the Herald? No local coverage, just reprints of Reuters and AP. What a waste.

Miami Shores, North Miami, Doral and Palmetto Bay are in chaos but only Doral gets a report. Go figure.

They corrected the print version of the story. Your efforts must have paid off.

Compliments to Gimleteye for recognizing Caroline Lewis' well-deserved honor.

The CLEO Institute is a confusing organization to me?

So is Sustainable Florida http://sustainableflorida.org/board-of-directors/

That seems to be a thing where people make a lot of noise about all they are doing, but end of the day they are not and lot of green washing takes place?

Who knows.

No, it was a huge fight with Bruce Greer from what I remember. I think he pulled a "Jihad" with the Board against her. This blog wrote about it years ago. There was some proxy battle going on over an estate, if I remember right as well.

Bruce Greer is a pompous man.
