More on the Christian Family Coalition Headquarters. Is Miami Dade County Paying Their Rent? By Geniusofdespar

This just keeps getting better...

Last Friday I wrote about the Christian Family Coalition renting an office at a Hialeah City owned building at 300 E. 1st Avenue. I called up the Clerk in Hialeah and asked what the CFC was paying for rent. She said that the County Department of Human Services pays the amount of $10,406.88 for a block of 6 rooms in the City owned Blanche Morton Center. That is about $1,734 for each of the 6 rooms per year. The Christian Family Coalition is a tenant in one of those 6 rooms: Room 104. I called the County Department of Human Services. They do NOT collect any rent for any of the 6 rooms. They said Community Action and Human Services is in charge of the rooms and they suggested I call Nelson Lurie who is in charge of that program. I called Mr. Lurie at his Community Action and Human Services Department. A Social Worker said she does know that the Christian Family Coalition is in the building, she said they were down the hall. She gave me a room number of 104 for them (she walked down the hall to look while I was on the phone). She did not know that the CFC's room was part of the Community Action and Human Services Department block of rooms. She seemed surprised because she said all their rooms were shared, i.e. no one was assigned to them.

So has Miami Dade County been paying the rent of the Christian Family Coalition for the past year and a half? Is the County getting reimbursed? Where are the cancelled checks? Now I have to see them.

I also asked the Clerk in Hialeah for information on the minutes and a data base for the Hialeah Faith-based Advisory Board. The Clerk gave me the name of Rev. Ilse Hernandez who does not speak ANY English. Also once a member of Hialeah's Faith Based Advisory Board is Rev. Julio E. Perez. Perez also is a a partner of Verdugo in CFC (he also registered the corporation) and is co-owner of Verdugo's home. Stay tuned, I am sure this story isn't over.

The same county employees who you previously said are "hard working" are now being revealed as incompetent.

Genius, you are the best! This just keeps getting better. I want whoever approved this AND the taxpayers are funding strung out in the public eye. I want to see the CFC tax returns or any proof they're actually doing ANYTHING to promote their "program services". You need more paperwork to get a grant for the arts from the County than to get free rent and a higher seat with the BCC members. Unbelievable!

Why does the county have a faith based anything by the way? Just asking.

Great expose. The Miami Herald should have been on this, a long time ago. Just shows the value of blogs.

Why is the County paying Hialeah to rent space to administer help to Hialeah residents? The space should be free.

Hialeah has the Faith Based Advisory Board, so does Doral. I don't know that the county has one.

Let's not be so quick to judge the county. They might be collecting thousands from CFC. It just might be that nobody in the county knows it.

Hey Bob, if that's true, good. Please let me and/or us know to who or whom is receiving these thousands and where the money came from and what was the original purpose of the "donated" or "collected" funds. So many questions go unanswered by this group it's unbelievable anyone can take them seriously.

There are two types of county employees: incompetent and corrupt. This is an act of incompetence or corruption.

I just watched the commissioners meeting regarding this group. Anyone interested should watch the tape. Moss, Heyman and even Jordan get 5 stars today!

Is CFC a C3 or a C4. I note on their website they take contributions. They don't mention they ARE NOT tax deductible that would make them a C3 but then they can't legally endorse candidates and other things that they do like lobby for legislation.

What gives with this group? Has anyone looked into their tax status.

Wow -- This is the kind of thing that just slips through when no one is watching the store. Thanks Genius!!!

The CFC is the same group trying to get prayer said before county commission meetings. It passed today, 3 against to 10 for.

I doubt that anyone cares about the BCC prayer issue. Congress has a nondenominational prayer every day. Obama will have a nondenominational prayer at his inauguration. Why no outrage about that historical practice?

I suspect prayer opposition is just a pretext to opposition to this group's stand on gay rights.

The vote can’t be 10 to 3 because Commissioner Bell was absent.

How can a chief of staff keep an employee who was found lying to the court?

Everyone is talking about it in county hall.

Is this a Christian family value?!

I watched the tape from the meeting yesterday. Moss was spot on calling out this 'hate' group because that is what it is and this person is. Diaz of course defended the CFC with his typical soliloquies of being of victim of hate himself by voters which actually made me laugh out loud at work - and that is my phrasing, not his!

In any event, it would be greatly appreciated if any municipality is giving the group funding to account for it whether it be a City or County and I'd like to know what tax form they use. More questions continually unanswered.
