The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald reported today that former Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina's uncle was arrested for felony and misdemeanor charges of absentee ballot fraud. The arrogance of Julio's uncle is astounding:
"Robaina admitted to police he picked up the ballots of seven or eight other people, according to an arrest affidavit, and told police that “he will continue to do it.”"
And pervasive:
"Robaina is the second ballot broker arrested as part of the investigation, which has brushed the political campaigns of the Miami-Dade mayor and state attorney, and the office of a sitting county commissioner."
This turn of events on absentee ballots has me so happy. Have any of you thanked Penny Townsley at Elections? How about Rebeca Sosa and Joe Centorino, for being the catalysts to get the ball rolling on the penalty addition to a toothless law? What about thanking the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald for their investigating and for keeping it in the news?
We need a major overhaul on absentee ballot policy. No one should be picking up ANY ballots.

To pick up ballot or going into places to help people "read" the ballot.
Lobbyists Al Lorenzo and Francois Illias scurry around buying favors from greedy elected officials. Both were fired by Gimenez but only after they were outed by an investigation.
For Bovo to say he didn't know what was happening in his office is just an insult to our intelligence. That lady has been working for him since his days in Tallahassee.
The guy from Miami Springs who went to deliver his absentee ballot to Pedrosa in Bovo's Hialeah office has the same last name as Bovo's Chief of Staff Forte. Is he a relative or just coincidence?
Thank you Commissioner Sosa! How about limiting absentee ballots to those who are serving overseas, will be out of town on election day or who are really sick and cannot get out of their house. With early voting including weekends, there's no excuse for not getting off our butts and cast our votes. Thanks again Commissioner!
Now the investigation should shift from Hialeah to the absentee ballot fraud machine run by the Republican Party of Miami-Dade. Organized by the previous chairman David Rivera and now run by Erick Fresen.
Time to move the investigation over to Miami Beach. One of the best known boleteros, Julia Davila and Perennial Miami Beach Commission Candidate loser, Elsa Urquiza are being paid by Bruno Barreiro for "campaign Work". We all know what that's code for.
Keep digging, people...we'll get there soon enough!
Thank you, EOM, for hammering this issue until it could no longer be ignored.
What is up with Bovo lately.
if he is doing this and the flirting at county hall "everyone knows about" with another com. staffer, HE SHOULD NOT BE A PUBLIC OFFICIAL.
I think his days are numbered when the rest of the shit hits the fan.
Anon:
I thought it was Barrerio flirting with another commissioner's staff member. How much flirting is going around in county hall? Please save the flirting for later.
How about the deep South Dade races where elderly citizens are being "helped" by paid campaign workers of a particular well funded race?
the anons about flirting!!
I wonder if it is the same lady!!
that will not surprise me knowing the one Bovo is .....
Scammer Francois Illias funnels money from illegal billboard companies to greedy elected officials.
