I am done reading the Miami Herald's Marc Caputo. By Geniusofdespair

In his article today, it is quite clear that Marc Caputo is biased for Republican candidates.  I took him to task last week for his love-fest with Marco Rubio. The entire column is certainly anti-Nelson to a fault. Here are two examples out of many -- not to mention the over-all tone of the article. Commenting on Mack, running against Bill Nelson, Caputo said: "Mack is a leader in missed votes in the House this year as he VIGOROUSLY campaigned for himself and the Republican presidential candidate." (i.e. Caputo defended Mack's motives in the only negative thing he said about him). I take issue with the word 'vigorously' (my caps) if you are going to write a news column and not an opinion column. Is this an editorial?

Caputo also curiously says, "What's noteworthy here is how some Democrats might be planning to use the not-so-popular Obama as a foil --"

The "not so popular Obama"?  Is Caputo nuts? No, I would say the Miami Herald is. Hey Jay Ducassi, I am one of those left who pays for your paper.

I still receive the Herald online. I stopped reading anything by Caputo ages ago and love the digital version of the Herald because I can click very quickly away from his and some other writers articles!

Don't end your subscription. Contact the paper. That is what I did.

It is clear that Caputo favors Republicans just like it was clear that Beth Reinhard favored Democrats when she wrote in that space. A column IS an expression of the writer's opinions, as opposed to news stories which are "supposed to" contain unbiased reporting. This is a larger problem that the Herald and other papers face as they allow (encourage) their reporters to be columnists.

My problem with the Herald is, it is not CLEARLY marked as an editorial column. It is on the news page without an IN MY OPINION headline.

The Herald is so liberal leaning it makes my head spin. But I agree editorial and news should be clearly sperated!

What's the deal? Marco is a source of local pride. Homegrown public servant full of ideas and energy. Stop it.

Barf. Speak for yourself. I take no pride in Rubio.

All the trolls writing about the unpopularity of Obama, he is in a statistical tie with Mitt, so are you also saying Mitt is unpopular too? On this blog Obama is wildly popular. Go crawl back in your troll holes you aren't getting any ink here.

Seriously? You're that unsophisticated a reader that you need the Miami Hurled to identify opinion from news? As though that distinction makes much difference anyway? Spare me your piety.

I know what it is or I wouldn't be pointing it out. Piety? Really?

Do you really think Obama is popular?

Geniusofdespair said...

Exactly what is popular? I assume you are talking about his poll ratings to win.

Yes. I looked at polling. I like him, everyone I hang out with likes him.

This is a new tactic in the right's talking points, I am not going to bite. Let me start one too: Rommney is unpopular with everyone in the party except the moderate Republicans -- who happen to have all the money. They are supporting their unpopular candidate because he is all they have.

BTW did you look at GWB polls when he was running second term?
