There are 11 Candidates Running for Miami Dade County Mayor. By Geniusofdespair

The only thing the 11 candidates running for Miami Dade County's Strong Mayor have in common is little money. Only Juan Carlos Bermudez has a bit of money in his account: $49,755. But when you put that in the context of the $427,232 already in Gimenez's PAC, it is small potatoes.

1st anon, that was exactly was I was going to write! Let the fun begin. I'm sick of the 2012 (no, that's not a typo) campaigns on every political level, but at least our local County Mayor race will give me more giggles than a headache!

He is the Mayor of Doral.

That is one of the big problems with Miami-Dade County. Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, thinks they are qualified! And, what we end up getting is a pile of incompetent asses who, if they can pull together their friends and ethnic buddies walk off with the prize, straight into office.

Politics in this County are "make up the rules as you go along." As is evident in politics elsewhwere, there are rules to guide even the most corrupt politician. And, believe it or not, there are some things they will not do. That's right, there are some things that are off limits to politiccians. But in Dade County, anything goes. They make up the rules as they go along, a bunch of people who have never been exposed to serious politics bullying their way into office. Everyone, trying to get into office to steal!

Quite frankly, I am sick of idiots claiming to reresent me when there is no way they ever could. Try holding an above average conversation with any of them and you will understand. Try talking with them about something other than the foolishness in Dade County and you will see. They cannot stand up to anybody with an above average education. Dade has become nothing more than a dumb down collection of loud mouths whose only qualification is to game the system.

I am now beginning to seriously question myself, "Why do I live here?" and, I am beginning to answer myself, Yes, why do you live here when you don't have to?"

If you read the economic report in today's Herald, our workforce is pathetic, full of incompetents from the bottom of the barrel. College-educated people move away and who can blame them? What is here for anybody with sense, people who have put in 4 years or more of hard work for a better life, people with a future who know it will never happen in Miami.

I am definitely looking to get out of this cesspool instead of placing my family's future in the hands of fake politicians and wanna-bees. Because if we don't improve on the quality of those we put into office, it will only get worse.

I would love to see an elected official that really has been a part of the community... one who has worked and developed a love for the people and the history of Miami.... not one who sees $$$$ and ego boosts.

The race for Mayor is over. Gimenez has done exactly as he pledged during his campaign - reduced taxes, won union concessions, and reorganized the county to 25 departments. The Herald supports him and he has made good on his commitments.

The EVEN numbered county commissioners are all up for election in 2012. If you want change, concentrate on getting rid of of Heyman, Sosa, Bell, Souto and Diaz. Keep Monestime - he unseated an incumbent.

Gimenez reorganized the county to 25 departments? Last anon, I can't believe you mentioned that. That reorganization was a huge joke on the taxpayers. He certainly didn't reduce the size of the government.

All Gimenez did was reshuffle the deck and add a new layer of bureaucracy. The old Burgess/Alvarez department directors are still there, overseeing the same functions, and raking in the same exorbitant salaries. The ex-directors are also still pulling in level one executive benefits that were previously reserved for department directors and higher.

The Burgess/Alvarez crowd continues to live high on the hog with no sign of departure. Count me in as someone who is very disappointed.

Bell was elected in 2010 - she's up for re-ellection in 2014, unless she's recalled. Do your research last anon.

It is the ODD number districts that are up, not the even.

To Disappointed with Gimenez ... my sentiments EXACTLY!!!!

And not one Gimenez's department director appointments was through a competitive recruitment process.

CAN YOU SAY "WORST PRACTICE"?

Right on last Anons! Gimenez did not restructure county departments, he just moved people around but the highest paid were demoted in title but not in salary. That in my book is an insult to our intelligence.

My apologies for the error, it is the ODDS that are up: Jordan, Edmonson, Barreiro, Suarez, Moss, and Martinez. Anyone in that crowd you would miss?

As for the 25 departments...I simply mentioned it as an example of Gimenez doing what he said he would do. Was it effective? Very doubtful. But the message fits on a bumper sticker.

Gimenez claimed he would reduce executive salaries and he didn't. (I have the flyer.) Instead he created new Deputy Mayor positions that pay more ($225k-275k) than the overpaid Assistant County Managers used to make.

Gimenez is no different than Alvarez. Same incompetent directors. Same crony Alina Hudak as County Manager. He is Carlos 2.0.

Carlos Gimenez has been a disappointment. He has significantly reduced head count and he hasn't gotten rid of the illegal LED billboards.

He is controlled by too many lobbyists.
