Rumors and Truths of 2011. By Geniusofdespair

Truth:
This summer Genting gave two $10,000 donations to the local Republican party, and Las Vegas Sands gave $5,0000 and Hialeah Services (gaming - John Brunetti) gave $5,0000 -- all 3 gave no money to the Democrats. I hope you are noting these donations Norman Braman as you pour money into the Republican party and as they stab you in the back on your issues.

Rumor: Who collected the money for the Pubs from Genting. Ron Book? He also made a donation about the same time.

Rumor:
Carlos Curbelo, School Board Member in District 7, will be running for Miami Dade County Mayor. He is up for reelection, maybe he is going for the bigger fruit. Also threatening to run: Xavier Suarez. Oops -- didn't get this rumor right, it was Alberto M. Carvalho, Superintendent of Schools who is rumored to run.

Rumor:
The Homestead-Miami Speedway is gearing up to become a Casino (Racino) that is why they asked for and got that expansion of the UDB line to become a mega-complex. Another bad sign, all their lobbyists contracts are still open.

Rumor and Truth: Carlos Gimenez hired a new Communication Director Fernando Figueredo. The rumor part is that he hired him at an obscenely high salary. This is where I disagree with the Mayor, he is hiring staff at too high salaries.

Rumor: Some Hialeah police officers were/are living in Section 8 Housing. Francisco Alvarado of Miami New Times claims this is NOT a rumor. Is this legal??

The county salary of new Communication Director Fernando Figueredo is a public record. Does anyone have it?

Also, he was hired from FIU's Public Relations Department (another place where his salary is a public record). Does anyone know what his salary was at FIU?

Why are you surprised that an industry such as gambling only donates to Republicans in Florida? Democrats have zero power here. Republicans hold both houses of the legislature as well as the governor's office.

If Democrats gained a political foothold anywhere, they would be getting plenty of donations. But until then, they are insignificant.

Curbello is lobbying for Genting. Looks like he will have plenty of money.

Curbello would get crushed by Gimenez. The rumor was actually that Carvalho would run for Mayor. Not sure why he'd do that. It seems to be a dead end road. Just ask the last 2 guys to hold the office.

Rumor: Lynda Bell will be recalled! In her first year, she's approved at least three applications outside the UDB - Ferro, Cemex and the Hudstead Speedway expansion! In addition, she's trying to dismantle DERM using the lawbreakers (and federally funded) 8 1/2 sq mile area (which isn't even in her district). The only "jobs" she's created are within her own totally incompetent GOP card carrying staff! And even of those, one former staffer has already filed a lawsuit. She's approved amendments to our Master Plan that could eventually open up our Ag area in Redland, which is now at critical mass. And, why should this concern you? Revenue from Redland funds the County because it's unincorporated and now Bell will have a bigger slice of the open land pie with redistricting.

Carvalho would have a good chance against Gimenez.

Aren't the Republicans the champions of family values? They should reject these donations. Would they also accept a planned parenthood donation?

Braman is no hero. He is a lapdog for the Republican party even when they differ from his own selfish interests.

The last one is no rumor. In Hialeah, it's common practice to reward favored cops with a free apartment:

I heard Fernando Figueredo of FIU was hired for $124.999.94 annually + $8,500 in executive level 2 benefits as the Mayor's Director of Policy and Legislation.

What ever happened to the concept of "public service"? Carlos Gimenez has hired too many lightweights giving them overly excessive pay and benefit packages. Further, Gimenez has moved far too slowly to reduce head count at the County. He is now vulnerable in the next election.

Carvalho is a creep. That munchkin was having an affair with a Herald reporter.
