Xavier Suarez Won the Election in County Commission District 7. By Geniusofdespair

Xavier Suarez beat Julio Robaina 53.43% to 46.57%. Julio won in early voting by 32 votes but lost in absentees by 1,225. On election day Suarez prevailed by 214 votes. Voter turnout was at 15.96%. It remains to be seen if there is any traction with the lawsuit brought by the third candidate, Ricardo Corona, who was denied entry in the race by the elections department. "The cause (case?) is remanded with directions to dismiss the complaint with prejudice."

Do all of you think you can keep your grandmothers and grandfathers home for the Mayoral Election? These men and women are destroying our county with their crappy picks.

Actually, the appellate court both dissolved the injunction and ordered the case dismissed with prejudice.

The decision is on the website of the Third District Court of Appeal.

Hey, on behalf of grandmas and granddads, sometimes we get it right!

No one remembers anything.

Hey grandma/grandpa, would you vote for Hialeah Robaina?

You said it right, Genius: "Suarez won in absentees by 1,225." This says it all.

Forget the grandmas and grandpas. The youngest generation of voters need to be persuaded to get involved.

Candidates today do not visit the local colleges and university campuses like they use to in the 1980's when I first registered to vote. I also learned the importance and felt a civil responsibility to participate in the process, and I have been voting ever since.

In the United States, African-Americans fought for their equal right to vote, women fought for their equal right to vote, and people died for this right.

Naturalized citizens, like myself, share these rights. Now, we need to honor those who fought for all of us. We need to give a damn, get off our butts, and go VOTE!!!

Job well done Vanessa Britto... we got another Javier Souto on the commmission.

Forgive me if I am remebering this wrong, but wasn't Xavier Suarez implicated in one of the biggest absentee voter fraud scandals when he ran for City of Miami Mayor against Carollo? Shouldn't someone be at least curious about his miraculous absentee ballot get-out-the-vote tally this time around too?

Take away the AB's for both candidates and Suarez still wins the election day efforts. Give it a rest already and deal with the fact that the people actually went out and voted for Suarez.

Your continued attacks is getting old, lets see how he does in the commission and then further judge.

Julio Robaina's insurmountable obstacle: he shares the same name with the sleazy candidate in the mayor's race. Poor guy. With that name, he didn't have a chance.

And yet, a "Robaina" won the most votes on Tuesday. Sorry, but your argument doesn't hold much water.

Geniusofdespair said...

That is because Hialeah voted in droves -- 30% or above. There are no Hialeah folks in District 7 where the vote was at 10 -15%.

District voting gives that persons argument some weight...Robaina TBO didn't take any of District 7.

Suarez will be an okay commissioner. He is a smart guy. He just has to drop that idea of using tourist tax money for the Dolphins. That would be a recall in the making.

In response to the last Anon ... In fact, Julio Robaina in the Mayor's race DID NOT win the most votes on Tuesday. Gimenez won the majority of votes on both Tuesday and in early voting. Robaina only won in the sleazy absentee vote area.

Julio TGO lost because he shared the same name as sleazy Julio TBO.

Geniusofdespair said...

Gimenez only won on early voting. I posted all the numbers a few days ago.

The numbers:
Hialeah Julio
24,882 election day
29,268 absentee
10,324 early

Carlos
23,829
20,531
10,791

Why grandmothers and grandfathers? There are many of us oldies who vote with our brains. Now, if we could get everybody to vote as they should, that will be another story.

Robaina is un-married, and as Suarez pointed out several times during the campaign could be a homo-philic canidate. Suarez is a Harvard educated lawyer he will shine on the commission like a piece of aluminum in a trash pile.

You should have said abuelas and abuelos should stay home on election day.

Wait - they already do -they vote absentee in their nursing homes.

Honesty, Integrety, Transparency is coming to Miami-Dade County....now we need to rally for Carlos Gimenez...a lot of early retirements will be annouced at the county shortly....

The degree of stupidity ailing this community is AWESOME. No wonder we have jerks like Xavier "El Loco" Suarez back in government. Makes me wonder if stress might get to him again, and he just might show up to commission meetings wearing his bathrobe! LOL Yeah! Don't you all remember when he began visiting the Miami Herald in bathrobe and slippers?

I cant wait for Suarez to get to the County!!!!!!!!!
He is the last individual that the Unions (Who supported Julio Robaina TGO) and the County employees want sitting in that District 7 chair.

Suarez is an educated individual who can actually read and understand numbers. He is going to leave a legacy of reform and good government. The truth is that he is also going to tell the people of this county the truth and not sugar coat things like the rest of the morons sitting on the commission.

Whether or not Julio Robaina is gay should make no difference. Who cares who someone sleeps with or if they sleep with anyone at all. Only his performance as Mayor and a legislator should have been considered.

Hey G.o.D., this grandma would not vote for Robaina.

We will live to see another day.

Look, chum, the only thing Xavier truly understands is that as soon as he's hit by the slightest stress, he'll get out of the house at 7:00 AM, attired in bathrobe and slippers, and start visiting from the electorate to the reporters and executives at the Herald. Yeah! Can't get away from what has happened multiple times. It's obvious, the guy has, as we say in Spanish, "guayabitos en el tejado"... something like, "tiny mice in the rooftop"... LOL This is all Miami needed, not only do we elect crooks, now we also go for "crazies" too! LOL Hey, having attended Harvard is no guarantee of intellligence. Look at Obama, he's a Harvard man and can't do anything right! Isn't that right, Republicans and Tea Baggers?

The difference between Julio Robaina for County Commissioner and Xavier Suarez for Commissioner was simple: campaign cash.
Francis Suarez has turned into a money-raising machine. His father benefited immensely from that success. Now Francis will have to endure the honor of having his father on the County Commission while he serves on the Miami Commission.
Could be interesting times ahead for the media.
Look at the consultants involved--
Suarez with Steve Marin, Alex Diaz de la Portilla, etc.
Robaina with Al Lorenzo and Steven Ferreiro, etc.
The consultants work hard--but it is easier to work harder and smarter when you have GLOBS of campaign cash.

Many people in Miami don't seem to understand that corruption should not be the status quo. It's what they're familiar with so it's what they expect and allow. This guy was all over the news for voter fraud, showing up at people's houses at all hours to confront them if they didn't agree with him, all kinds of lunacy. I covered him for an article at a "town hall" meeting that was absurd. How about we elect people who understand what country they're in, for starters...ridiculous.
