Pizza Review NOT accurate on Kitchenetta Trattoria. By Geniusofdespair

In my quest for the perfect slice of pizza, I read the review on "Worst Pizza" blog of Kitchenetta Trattoria with great interest. Worst Pizza said:

This could be the first perfect slice rating I have given to any place so far in South Florida. Kitchenetta gets 8 out of 8 slices, which equals perfection.

Okay. I was excited. I could not wait to try the pizza there and last night I took the trek to Ft. Lauderdale.

I got there at 5:15 and they didn't open till 5:30. I stood around and waited. Obviously the place was empty. We went inside but it smelled of bug spray so we decided to sit outside. Maria, the bitchy hostess, steered us to a table for two with no tablecloth on the aluminum tabletop. All the other tables had tablecloths. We didn't want to sit there. She insisted that a crowd was expected and all she could give us was a table for two. I took the photo above at the END of our meal so you could see the BIG CROWD at 6:30 when we left. Why she couldn't sit us at a table for 4 at 5:30 is beyond me. So I already hated Kitchenetta Trattoria before I even had the pizza.

Okay, I admit I don't like pancakes of mozzarella cheese on my pizza. I like it marbelized. The pizza was good: the cheese, the sauce, and the crust. But the pancakes of cheese didn't cut it for me. The cheese on the slices wasn't hot enough either.

It was more like soup than pasta. We asked for bowls and spoons. It actually was very good. It was comprised of fusilli, escarole and cannellini beans.

The wine was expensive for that type of place - the cheapest glass was $9.

How would I rate Kitchenetta Trattoria? I give the pasta an 8 out of 10. The pizza a 6 and the hostess Maria a zero, she sucked.

Go to Niagara Falls NY to get good pizza, all of which are better than what SFl has to offer. My favorite; La Hacienda, since 1947.

Best pizza in Miami is Steve's in NMia, but I'm not crazy about the sauce.

Agree on Steve's sauce.

Steve's is delicious, but if you're ever down south it's all about Frankie's on Bird and 94 ave.

We highly recommend Luna Pizza, 6382 Main St, Chestertown, NY 12817 (just over an hour from Albany, NY). Definitely worth the drive! Just off Highway 87. I think it is exit 25. Tell them Gene from Palmetto Bay sent you. They will have no clued as to who I am, but it will be fun. We love the service, the ambiance and most of all, the Pizza. There is free WiFi.

I grew up on Frankie's on Bird and 94 ave. No such thing back then as order ahead, it always seemed like first come first served. Accept no substitutes. I also recommend Papa Ricos, 14415 S Dixie Hwy, Palmetto Bay, for a place to eat and always run into friends as well as Steve's Pizza, 18063 S Dixie Hwy, Miami, FL 33157.

So sorry you didn't like the pizza there. Sometimes it isn't a perfect pie but on other times it is quite exceptional. Personally I haven't had the bad hostess experience and I wonder if she is actually the wife who owns it as well!

It's definitely not a "slice" place but I still hold to my perfect slice rating for the day I went.

Thanks Lapp. I think I am in the market for NY style and even the owner said I wouldn't find it there. But try the pasta...really good.

Lapp - /Have you tried Tony's pizza on 441 near Ives Dairy Rd.? I find your site hard to navigate-- to search places you have been.

Ciro's across from the falls on Sw 136 st. has great pizza...the best down south.
Casolla's farther north is still good too...
In Tallahassee there is Momo's on Tennessee

No one eats at 5:15. That's the moral of the story!

Was not going to Ft. Lauderdale to eat. Was there on other business. It was getting near dinnertime when we were on our way home...and I remembered that review.

Best ever in South Miami? Mario's Pizza c. 1975, behind Allen's Drugs next to the Tag Agency. Nailed it!
