The 2004 Mayoral Election Compared to 2011. By Geniusofdespair

In 2004 Jimmy Morales lost in the primary by 21,514 votes but he made the runoff. Carlos Gimenez lost the primary Tuesday by 9,026. Jimmy went on to lose the election to Carlos Alvarez in November 2004 by 74,766. There were 151,717 votes up for grabs from other candidates in 2004. In 2011 we have 71,219 up for grabs from other candidates. Carlos Gimenez is going to have to work hard to win this election. Other candidates' votes don't necessarily translate to fall in his camp. There were 290,007 votes in the last primary for Mayor. That is 100,000 more than in this primary.

Robaina paid about $14 per vote and Gimenez paid $7, if you divide up the funds they spent through May by the votes they got on Tuesday. That doesn't take into consideration the PAC money, like from the PBA. The PBA spent plenty trashing Gimenez.

We should not take this election for granted. If you want your candidate to win, you had better get your friends to vote June 28th.

Carlos Gimenez needs to work fast to ensure that absentee ballots are not stolen by the Republican "AB brokers".

The Republican machine is in full gear since they do not want to loss in Miami-Dade County like they lost in Jacksonville last week.

The Dynamic, and Demographic, will be much different for the Run-off. Kids are out of school by then, and families are on vacation. No other races in Hialeah to draw on (i.e. District 13 and House District 110). How will that effect Robaina's stronghold. It's true that many of the people who voted for Luther Campbell will probably stay home. A big question mark as to what will happen in District 7 and what effect that will have on turn-out in Gimenez' stronghold.

A lot of moving parts.

Everyone here votes, so the question is this - are you all willing to get 10 others to vote? Communities that fail to energize voters fail to matter.

Ten is easy to get:

You, spouse, kids, grandma/grampa, neighbors left right and across the street. That is more than 10, but I am just saying....

I dont think Gimenez or Robaina will even try to get votes from the African American community
