I Missed an Important Detail on County Commission District 8 Candidate, Carlos Pereira. By Geniusofdespair

I am ashamed that I missed it, something so obvious...to look at the treasurer appointment for candidate Carlos Pereira who is going for the Sorenson seat.

Pereira's treasurer is none other than Jose "Pepe" Riesco. Pepe ran Mayor Alvarez's strong mayor campaign and is a treasurer for many candidates. Pepe also ran Joe Sanchez's campaign for City of Miami Mayor. This partner will give Pereira a fund-raising advantage.

Friends from Pereira's Campaign Facebook Page: Dario Moreno, Rep. Julio Robaina, Mabel Masvidal and Carlos Gimenez. Pretty much useless information since some people will befriend anyone. I would estimate that 5 years elapsed between these two photos.

5 years? It looks like about 25 years.

In the younger photo, he was with a baby (I cut out) and on his facebook page he says his oldest child is 5, so I am guessing the first photo is with first baby.

Pepe Riesco is an accountant that the Mayor used for a straw man. Flinn will win this seat going away.

Pepe is not just a straw man, he is a significant force in Miami Dade politics.

So significant he got his last candidate a seat....oh wait.

That was only because the last candidate was a loser-- you can't make the silk purse out of a sow's ear

Third anon - why is Flinn such a shoe in? What about the other candidates, not the one mentioned here?

If Pepe is such a significant force in Miami-Dade politics, why was his candidate Joe Sanchez trounced and humiliated in the Miami mayoral race? If his candidate was humiliated once, his candidate can be humiliated again.

P.S. Carlos Alvarez won simply because he was the Cuban American former police chief. It wasn't because of his political skills or his campaign treasurer.

Pepe is good. Do not underestimate him.

Sanchez was not a good candidate he made some very bad votes and there was NO WAY Pepe could dig him out of the hole Joe dug for himself. Joe needed the Anglo vote to have a chance and the Mercy Hospital and Home Depot votes killed him with the Anglos. Aside from that, Regalado was hugely popular from his radio show.

Please don't use the term "Anglo." It's offensive. Thanks.

Geniusofdespair said...

Yes, all this racial stuff that factors in to our politics is offensive but it is our reality. What should I write? White non Hispanic? I don't find that any less offensive.

Richard,

Would you prefer "Pale-face"?

It's the internet. Get over it. There are far worse things in the world then to mull over someone saying "anglo"

I think it should be "white-English speaking whose last few generations were born in North America". Then, instead of Hispanic we could change it to "non-English speaking originally." Why are the people formerly known as Anglo the non-something else?
Oh, and BloggingBlackMiami just did a story on the BloggingWhileBrown conference. So check before you call them black.
P.S. In reality, I'm with Gifted in saying: get over it.

Riesco's a category five force and worth probably six percentage points in this race. This game just changed big time.

Flinn is a nasty guy. He is hard to deal with. I won't vote for him.

Pepe is usually the Treasurer. But who did he select as Campaign Treasurer for Joe Sanchez? None other than Ponzi scheme operator Lew Freeman, who pleaded guilty this month to stealing $3 million from his clients. Count me as yet another observer who is unimpressed with Pepe's so-called political skills.

Diggy said...

Oh really? So the selection of Freeman was opposed by Pepe? So why didn't Pepe quit the campaign in disgust when Sanchez picked an embezzler as the Treasurer? I suppose the next thing you will write is that, despite being the campaign manager, Pepe had no involvement in the campaign whatsoever. Let me guess, anon ... you are Pepe, right?

Did'nt Freeman just plead guilty about 2 weeeks ago, that campaign was over 4 months ago. There is some fuzzy math going on here.

Anonymous said...

Ummm ... yes, there was plenty of fuzzy math and it was all Freeman's. Lew Freeman admitted this month that he had been stealing for over 15 years from 250 victims. The mayoral election occurred on Nov 3, 2009. In August and September of 2009, Campaign Treasurer Freeman was borrowing large amounts of money from friends and draining $1.4 million in equity from his home to try to hide his Ponzi scheme. The FBI raided Freeman's business one month before the election. Shortly thereafter (weeks before election day), Freeman had dissolved his business and was publicly cooperating with the FBI.

I guess Campaign Manager Pepe was unable to see the warning signs and was duped by embezzling Campaign Treasurer Freeman, too. LOL.

What was the subject of this post? I believe that Pepe will give the candidate a fundraising advantage-- still do. I don't care that pinkies (more accurate color for whites-- readers are taking issue with my demograpic labeling) from Euoropean descent mostly, brownish people from mostly Haitian/Jamaican/African descent and pink to brownish people who have Spanish as their native language ( you people are driving me crazy) disagee with me (see comments above - trying to make you all happy). As long as people vote in blocks--they have to be identified by a shorthand block label which is pretty much always inaccurate.

Pepe came in to Sanchez camp after Freeman. Pepe was asked to join so he could take over for what Joe's people could not and had not done well. Pepe had too much on his hands, limited support from Joe's employees and not sufficient time to dig Joe out of the hole he was pushed into. I bet Sanchez is not a bitter man, for he is a great person and would have made a great Mayor.
Carlos Pereira has my support for District 8.

Pepe is an asset to Pereira's campaign. There's no doubt that this seat will be courted by MANY candidates. Intelligent choices like this one will make Pereira a front-runner in this race.

What is the hang up on someone's past or the relations they had. If that was of such importance JFK due to his father's bootlegging biz and Reagan due to his communist investigation by McCarthy would not have been elected. Carlos Pereira is the best person to represent the district. He IS the example of hardwork and dedication as he built his biz from scratch to a success, family-oriented, firm in his faith, and with the most positicve and beneficial platform for the residents of the area. Voters CANT GO WRONG with Carlos.

Looks like the Pereira campaign has found this blog. Okay we hear you, you like your candidate.

Pepe was managing the Sanchez campaign at least as early as mid-July 2009. That fact was reported in this blog as well as several print publications. According to election records, Freeman was the Campaign Treasurer until October 15 which was after the FBI raid. On that date, Pepe assumed the role of Campaign Treasurer in addition to his role as Campaign Manager. Pepe and Freeman worked together for at least several months on the Joe Sanchez campaign.

So why the revisionist history? Doesn't Pepe like being associated with a Ponzi scheme operator?

Riesco is a Quaker . . . he rides around in his horse and buggy, smoking cigars and pandering to unicorns. What is this guy's deal?

If Pepe ran the mayors campaign, then he had county employees doing his bidding. I wonder if all the time slips were in.

Geniusofdespair said...

wrong Pepe reader...not Pepe Diaz -- the county commissioner.
