Miami's Queen of Mean, Natacha Seijas, Wrong as Usual by Geniusofdespair

Without Leona Helmsley, I think Natacha can take over the title because she has earned it: "Queen of Mean." I suspect Natacha would kick her cat so no millions to you Seijas kitty.

"Miami Today" reported, in their Aug. 30th edition, that the vile Natacha Seijas wants to cut the budget by combining the planning and zoning divisions with existing departments. "I recommend we establish a unified Planning and Economic Development Dept." she said. I think this is an awful idea but when you let your developer friends do your planning, why would you need the duplication of a second Planning Dept.? It makes sense in her world where you might kick cats and totally ignore the recommendations of County Planners.

Do these two go together? This is from the County websites of both departments she mentioned:

The Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) administers Federal and State funding that supports the development of viable urban neighborhoods in Miami-Dade County characterized by decent housing, expansion of economic opportunities and the preservation of historic properties.

And this is from the Planning Dept.:
Our mission (is) to promote a high quality of life for current and future residents of Miami-Dade County through the exercise of sound planning and by administering and enforcing the Comprehensive Development Master Plan, the Zoning Code, and other development regulations.

Miami-Dade County has too many employees who do little or no work. I say eliminate jobs. I say get rid of the deadwood.

Give the taxpayers a break. M-D County has 40,000 employees. Fire 5,000. Send them packing. In fact, fire every employee who does not live within M-D County. That should eliminate 5,000 or more.

How about we fire Natacha the queen of mean instead.

How about we use the 30,000 number for county employees? At least get within the correct range for the number of people working there.

Every company has some slackers.... even YOUR business... they should be weeded out and then praise the hard workers....

Always easy to say there are too many county employees. It's an uneducated yet plausible statement.

An interesting tidbit from the Neighbors 30th anniversary look back thing the Herald did. It turns out there are nearly the same number of employees - about 25% more than in 1977 - yet twice as many people living here.

Are there people that need to be cut from the payroll? Sure. Are there agencies of the county that could use hundreds more people just to do their job right? Absolutely. "Fire 'em all" is just drunken noise.

To the substance of this blog entry: combining Zoning with Economic Development could make sense if it also included transit planning, but Genious is on target. This is not being done for for any cerebral idea of efficiency or continuity of mission.

I think Seijas' daughter is a "planner" for the Empowerment Trust. They are the economic developement agency that messed up the poinciana biotech deal.

Could that have something to do with the merger?

hmmmmm

the # of county employees IS closer to 40,000. and there IS a lot of excess when it comes to county staff duplication of work assignments etc.
