Bleak Planet. By Geniusofdespair

So, kids, if you want to understand the politics of the Middle East today, study Arabic and Farsi, Hebrew and Turkish -- but most of all, study environmental science. - Thomas Friedman

It is the environment stupid. Droughts in Syria, India and now Iran...you can trace the destruction and depletion of natural resources and climate change to every issue facing us today (i.e. immigration).

We are devouring our planet. People are on the move as climate change takes hold. Where is everyone going to go?

In his article Friedman proposed what would have been an effective tweet about Iran for Donald Trump, our Tweeter In Chief:
@realDonaldTrump “America stands with Iranian demonstrators!!! Why are so many from the countryside??? Because Iranian Revolutionary Guards mismanaged Iran’s water supply for decades. Stole all the water for their companies, cronies, pistachio farms and stupid dams!!! And now climate change and droughts are making it all worse, forcing Iranians off their land. Unfair!! Sad!!”
So is this why I am depressed today? No, this is why I am depressed every day. People are having "Gender Reveal Parties" while chaos reigns and our future is bleak.  What will wake up people putting newborns on the planet?

When the $ rules all government and business decisions, we get spin and smoke and mirrors as to why protecting the earth and its resources is too much regulation and costly.

“Ruminating is just one road to pessimism. Another habit that dims your outlook: a process called catastrophizing, mentally rewriting grim possibilities until they become true doomsday scenarios.”

We are all born to die. It’s about how we live...and we are only really responsible for ourselves. You can and are doing your best
(I love your blog.)

Why is climate change such a “terrible” thing? In the long run warmer temperatures create more arable and hospitable climates for human population. Our planet’s climate has never been static and humans have adapted and thrived regardless. Are there always growing pains? Of course, ask the Mayans and Easter island. Saying climate change is a universal negative is just as ignorant as trying to deny the existence of climate change. Do you think the people and countries which might stand to benefit from a warmer climate should be completely disregarded?

They aren’t going to get warmer. Cold places just don’t automatically get warmer. The weather will change to extremes. More droughts cold and warm alike. More storms, higher warer levels. Unpredictable weather patterns. I believe I was talking about migration because of droughts. What the hell are you talking about.

Grim possibilities is bad enough. I like to see patterns and see bigger pictures. I am not good at what you want me to think. Your style not mine. I see mass migrations

Yes you are so right. And we in the US maybe one of those migrating populations. . .
