This hole is at my condo just off the seawall bordering Biscayne Bay. I watched the hole for awhile because that is the type of person I am, inquisitive.
It filled to the top in foamy water, then it was quickly sucked out (you can hear it)...the pattern repeated over and over exactly the same. What gives?

In the old days, there was springs that bubbled up near the shore. Boaters would come in and get fresh water. There are springs all over the place. In the lagoon at Matheson Hammock if you stand in the right spot you can feel the cool water bubbling up. Considering that everything to the east of Bayshore is filled, it could be a spring.
My husband also says that maybe there's a sewer leaking and it could be someone flushing a toilet!
What does the water smell like?
I don't know. I've never heard of such a thing before!
Probably a solution hole (dissolved limestone) with a tunnel/cave down below the bay, possibly a former spring. Our water table used to extend out into the bay, as someone said, ships would stop offshore and fill their water barrels from springs welling up fresh water above the salt water at low tide. This has been replaced by saltwater. Wave action from the storm probably driving water up the tunnel/cave. It would be interesting to see how this storm has affected the saltwater intrusion inland and how many fresh water wells may be lost.
Mother nature is trying to tell us it is OK if Robert Mueller uses water boarding.
I am going with something related to the sewer system... it's the oldest infrastructure with the worst history of any upkeep... I wouldn't trust the guy in charge with my dog, let alone the drinking water and sewage system.... He is slimey....
