The spectacle of an unhinged president is dominating the news, while the Mueller investigation of TrumpRussia moves along. The inescapable conclusion: an unfit, unstable and egocentric shut-in is at the helm of the White House. Today Phoenix. Tomorrow, God knows where.
The majority of Americans -- and even an increasing number of Republicans in Congress -- believe the president is hopelessly lost in matters of governance. Trump is defaulting at every occasion to the spectacle of professional wrestling in lieu of cogent, rational leadership. Invent villains (ie. Fake News). Attack mercilessly. Strike pose. Change pose.
Only Trump's hardcore supporters -- a small minority swayed by Alt-R and conservative radio and TV bloviators -- trust him. The circle is not widening. It is shrinking.
The Trump presidency is a tragedy on face value, but it is deep within the purpose of dark money Republican channels -- pie-in-the-sky libertarian aspirations for governance masking self-enrichment -- where a catastrophe is unfolding.
There are ways to correct course, but judging from what is happening on the political ground today; not so long as Republicans dominate legislatures, Congress, and executive branches of government -- holding the key to judicial appointments where the platitudes are set in stone for distant, future generations of Americans to disentangle if at all.
This is the deadly serious problem at the heart of American democracy. Federal government and authority is falling to pieces. Yet Trump is a side-show to the dismantling operation waged by billionaires. Read the analysis, below:
