Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava targeted with what appears to be a partisan hit piece in the Miami Herald. By Geniusofdespair

Disguised as a letter to the editor, this hit piece against Miami Dade County Commissioner Daniella Levine Cava, really seemed odd when I read it this morning.

First how did it make the SUNDAY Miami Herald?  Why Sunday? The Miami Herald's most popular day.

The letter admonished the Commissioner with regards to Homeless Vets (like who doesn't like homeless vets?) being ignored by Daniella Levine Cava while she was focusing her efforts on illegal aliens (who of course do not get to vote).  The letter writer Adrian Ajeda, claims to be a Veteran in Commissioner Cava's district. Hmm.

I looked up the name and nothing popped up with the name Adrian Ajeda but Adrian Ojeda popped up instead all over the place. His address was in Dennis Moss's District, not Daniella's. The letter writer said he lived in her district so he could single her out. Adrian Ojeda also is a Republican Operative and a Committeeman. If my instincts are correct the letter originated from him. I think this letter was meant to damage Daniella not make her aware of the plight of homeless vets. This was a Republican attack ad in my mind.

Republican who vote in Cava-Levine's district don't care too much for illegal immigrants. So the letter writer emphasized that Levine Cava went to a lot of trouble helping them: "Why does she lend her voice to those who have broken the law instead of those who wore our nation's uniform." In other words: How unpatriotic of her. DON'T BE MANIPULATED!!!  Daniella is working with others on a VA Clinic in Homestead and is involved in a program to train veterans to be be farmers. In fact, she has always been a homeless advocate with Catalyst Miami for at least 20 years. In 2016 she was a Sponsor of establishing a veterans court that included programs for homeless vets. (see below) So this guy is just doing his political assassination thing against her without proof of her neglecting our vets because she hasn't.

This Herald letter wanted to make me barf. It is a polished piece of writing and --if I could figure out something appeared to be going on here--I think the Miami Herald could have too instead of giving ink to what appeared to be a partisan ad in a non-partisan campaign. She made the Mayor look bad over bowing to Trump's threat and the Mayor is probably doing "back at you." Of course, I might be totally wrong but my instincts are so very good about lying scum. I guess the 2018 election has officially begun.  (If an Adrian Ajeda does exist, even though I searched public records, and did write this letter -- Never mind).

How was the name of the writer spelled wrong?? What does the herald have on file

This does appear to be a craftily written hit piece throwing the commissioner under the bus. Since the name in the herald does not seem to exist, but a republican operative in a nearby district with a one letter different last name seems just to coincidental.

Daniela Cava has been an amazing commissioner. We hope she prevents corrupt CRA's from having their termination dates extended. She deserves our support.

No way is the Herald going to be part of a conservative secret operations plan. They have always favored Daniella. It does seem odd it would be published. It seems like something more appropriate for social media or blogging. Daniella hasn't come out in support of those breaking the law.

In fact, Conservatives are working to help make criminals function easier in our society. Undocumented citizens do much more than paying consumption taxes (in some cases they may pay income tax too) to contribute to our society.
Imagine that you are a victim of a crime. Perhaps you were driving in a neighborhood with a high crime rate, and your car breaks down. Just then you become the victim of a assault and burglary. It's possible the only witness was an undocumented man/woman. Under Trump's administration, your assailant knows he is at an advantage. He knows the undocumented citizen will not feel safe in coming forward as a witness.

Often, criminals learn their skills by practicing on undocumented folks first. They learn how to rape and steal from those who are too afraid to go to the police. These criminals become better and better with each crime. They start to feel more and more powerful. Then they start preying on all of society. Xenophobia is establishing the breeding grounds for crime. Thanks President Trump!

I am wondering what is being organized behind the scenes to try to get under Daniella's skin? It seems more like the beginning of some underground organizing of Republican organizers. Perhaps they have already picked their replacement for District 8? The Republicans have proven their ability to be better organized and effective. I bet the overturning of Vice Chair Lynda Bell was a wake up call. The 2018 election is likely to be even nastier.

Cava is no longer the freshman in town. She is definitely heading for an uphill battle in the next two years heading into her reelection with uber conservative and anti-democracy Steve Bovo locked in as Chair and Gimenez at the reins. Being smart isn't going to bode well for her, if she doesn't know how to play well with others. She is our hope for some progressive leadership, but not if she doesn't play well with others in her playground. Unfortunately, her sandbox isn't the same sandbox where domestic workers and migrant workers play. She is now a politician. It will be interesting to see how sand dust settles. She will be remiss, if she thinks she is the only commissioner on the dais in touch with the community. She would be remiss if she thought all of her democrat colleagues are interested in her success. This editorial is probably not authored by just one guy. I bet he cares less about veterans and more about his own political agendas. There are much stronger arguments to be made against illegal immigrants. I am glad the conservatives haven't done well to build such arguments. These immigrants help fill voids in our labor market which is enjoyed by both dems and republicans.

Well, if it is a republican plan, then let's look at some who have $$$ and who would love her seat. I don't particularly always agree with Cava, but I know of some really disagreeable people (and I think they aren't dems) who would fancy themselves her replacement.

I mean veterans and undocumented immigrants are both marginalized communities. She is the champion of the marginalized. I am sure if you audit her donations from her discretionary spending, you will see equality. She has probably donated just as many resources to veteran nonprofits as any other marginalized group. However, I hardly think writing a letter to the mayor really deprived veterans of resources? I am sure if you wait until the next election, you will see her write letters and give more resources to veterans too. Veterans and their families vote too...

Whether he lives in her district or not, is a bit of a moot point. She definitely is acting in the interest of the whole of Miami-Dade County. She has been preoccupied with Trump. We get it. She did ban Trump from our county. I am still wondering how that works now that he is POTUS? However, I agree that writing a letter to the Mayor hardly distracts from Veterans. Criticizing the Mayor or POTUS is a great way to prove cojones. If it makes you feel better, she probably did not even author the letter. I am sure it came from her campaign. It brings the public's attention to her instead of real issues. I would not be surprised if the letter to the editor was authored by her campaign which is why they accidentally misspelled Adrian's name. It did its job to bring more attention to this chica which is why we are talking about her today. They probably felt there was poor attendance at their demonstration or they felt they did not get enough return of investment on their efforts to combat the mayor. Maybe they felt they didn't get enough media attention? So they had to submit a letter of editor to her friends who publish at the Herald? Pretty smart actually... No such thing as bad publicity... Just opportunities to raise name recognition, spin, and open a platform... Bravo!

This guy is super handsome though... It kind of makes me want to forgive him for being a Republican...

When Ojeda steps into a full bath tub does he become illegal?

FAKE NEWS.

The Republicans have been blocking actions in Congress in recent years against expanding benefits for Veterans.
Mr. Ojeda would serve veterans better, if he took up his concerns with his Congress reps. The Dems gave us the GI Bill.
The Commissioner should reach out and talk to him. We ALL need to do more to combat the PTSD epidemic.
Don't comingle Veterans and illegal immigrants. It's not fair to either group... Be smarter, dude...

Can we talk about how Trump disrespected POW Veteran Sen. John McCain? I would try to do all in my power to block Trump's orders too. He is not interested in helping vets. It's time for the vets to get together and claim their own political power.

Also, what do you expect from a rich grandma? She can't be a mother to everyone, all at once... In due time, son... In due time...

Some of you...really, really out there, forced to erase you for making up stuff. Troll on some pub site. Let me suggest the Daily Stormer. Most accurate of pub sites, authentic!

It it is not A moot point that he said he was from her district because that was his reason for singling her out.

Look into Daniela Cava's background. Her resume shows her founding a non-profit that is devoted to helping people who cannot help themselves. Yes, it is true Mrs Cava is the best educated and the smartest of the 13 County and 5 City commissioners. Please do hold her intelligence against her. She uses her brains to solve problems for every resident on Miami-Dade County.

Lord -- things get worse and worse -- I know that Daniella can take it -- but she should not have to!

Manly Guy you are so daffy. Really, that has to be one of the dumbest comments ever.

My reply to the Herald article in the column's comments

Adrian, (if you do exist, bc there is no registered voter in Miami-Dade County with that name) The fact that someone fights for refugee aliens doesnot mean they don't help vets and their causes. She is working hard to secure a VA clinic in her district of Miami Dade County. She has fought for the homeless in this community before you ate your first chow hall meal! I served this very same country for many years and I have served to see our country as a welcoming refuge for all people.

My family has been in Miami for over 125 years and I've come to realize that my service to this country was based on freedom and liberty for all. So to shut the door on the most needy refugees is absolutely wrong. Ask the Cubans who now call Florida home, ask the Jews who came here fleeing pursecution in the 1930's and the ones who were turned away. Asked the hundreds of million Americans who came here because their own coutries were war torn. Every European that migrated to america after both World Wars. You should be writing your letter directly to your US Senators Rubio & Nelson or your US Representatives for real Veteran-based solutions, not a hit piece in the Miami Herald. thats if you really do exist

The poor boy who wrote the letter slamming Commissioner Cava has embarrassed himself by not getting his facts straight before putting his pen to paper. Good God, if there is another human being in this town who has spent more of their lives defending, helping, mentoring, or providing a leg up to those in need of help than Commissioner Cava, I look forward to meeting them. As for his concern that we help 'illegal immigrants' and not homeless vets, lord, quit even using that word, these are human beings and all of us in this county either know them, work with them, or employ them. Stop being so mean and small and squirrelly . We don't have to choose to only help some people, we can help all who need it if we just have the will to do so.

So genius, without being absolutely sure it was him you post a picture of Mr. Ojeda and demonize him......Robspierre would be so proud.

Geniusofdespair said...

Well, yes I know it is him. But how did I demonize him: by calling him a Republican Operative?

The Herald posted a correction of the name today, and I have a picture of him from Doug Hanks' Twitter page at the county commission talking about veterans and a picture of him with his baby from his facebook page wearing the same shirt he wore at the commission meeting. My only mistake is that he is no longer a committeeman and he moved into her district.

DANTON said...

"But how did I demonize him:" "lying scum"

Unless I have been wrong about the words "Lying Scum" all my life these are demonizing and quite insulting words (some would say Fighting Words). People ( I being one of them) complain about Trumps discourse and demonization of those he disagrees with, how does emulating him help lift this country out of the gutter its in?

PS Maybe you should apply at the NSA you seem to have decent surveillance skills.

Com. Cava is worthless it is ebaresing to say I live in her district. Can not Waite for her to get out by someone who is qualified like Bell.

Commissioner Levine Cava is inclusive and balanced. Even negative opinions are welcomed; she really listens. Really LISTENS. She understands that all public opinions help to pull her district, and the county, in a direction that is successful because her constituents' concerns are her concerns. Her district is rural, suburban and commercial. She is empathetic, logistical and practical. Her doubter's comments are actually considered.

She is quite unusual for a County Commissioner. We should all value her.

This blog is very influential ... I am happy to see his true identity is revealed. Maybe he will want to defend his opinion? Daniella is gonna be ready to address it, I am sure. She is a trooper, and she can take it. She will always prevail. Please keep up the good work on keeping everyone talking and paying attention. I might not always agree, but I do really respect the function of this blog...
