Brief election report ... by gimleteye

Congratulations to the voters of Florida who denied the state's utilities the supermajority to amend the constitution, forcing solar energy consumers into their monopolies.

Congratulations to Miami-Dade's Jose Javier Rodriguez, who defeated Republican Miguel Diaz de la Portilla. Jose Javier overcame a relentlessly negative and dismal campaign.

The Trump transition begins today.

Once, in California, driving north on the Pacific Coast Highway my friend Bob and I came to a stop. Across the road, wildlife officers were peering through binoculars to the ocean, more than a thousand feet below. We were curious to know the object of their attention. One handed us a pair of binoculars. "A dead blue whale," she pointed a few miles off. "Sharks are feeding on it." It took a while to focus but there -- in the distance, invisible to the naked eye -- the carcass of a whale floated at the surface of the placid ocean. Great white sharks drove themselves onto the whale, using its slick body like a ramp, tearing white strips of flesh then floated away. The furious dismantling of the whale happened without a sound from where we stood on the shoulder of the road, above the precipice. The sky was cerulean blue with only a whisper of wind. Clear as far as the eye could see. After a while, marveling at the scene, we handed the binoculars back and continued up the winding road.

Genius of Despair, my co-blogger, and I have been at Eye On Miami for ten years. It may be time to hand the binoculars back.

Yes, I don't think I want to look at anything. But today is not a decision day.

Both of you have been hero's in your work to educate and make aware. My sincere thanks for all your efforts over all these Years.
So I would not hold it against you, if you hung up your hat's and let the "masses" figure out the future for themselves.
The horse may have to figure out where to drink by itself.
Eight Years ago it was hope and change, today I think change is afoot. Tomorrow it may be Goetterdaemmerung!

2016 was the beginning of a very short 21st century.

The two of you did a great job of pointing out the issues, and encouraging us to look closer, move into action and the like. I think Rubio lost in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. So when testicals and penises become small, people lose their homes to the Atlantic Ocean, there is no decent water to drink, cancer cells cover the area, and Rubio goes home to sleep for six years, we were warned.

We don't have time to lament now. There is a big cat 10 economic storm coming. The waves started coming in last night with the market, and the winds joined this morning. We have until January to get our stuff together and find shelter for the next four years.

As one who often post a contrary POV here. All I can say is we survived Jackson, Bush and at least half a dozen horrible presidents, this too shall pass..Congress is another story.

this morning Kellyanne Conway is being credited as a genius, brought in at the 11th hour as a fixer for Trump's off the wall and misogynistic rhetoric, the first woman ever to run a Republican president campaign, she is a real life Olivia Pope except blond, Catholic and a feminist. Hopefully he will keep listening to her..

You guys do great thankless work on this blog.
But for the truths and fact and hidden data you guys reveal here,
where will the opposition congregate? What institution will fill the gap you leave?

I can imagine it is hard thankless work.

I suggest, rather than rap it up, bring on some other contributors who can take some of the burden off of you.

Well let's remember that Trump did loose the popular vote. Hillary despite her neo-liberal policies and past won the election. Now Trump will have to govern because of the electoral college vote. This is a fact. And facts are in short supply in American politics nowadays. Please don't leave us as you both are central to building a stronger and more powerful opposition. And a fact based informed electorate.
Your insight on local issues and national concerns is a critical part of this project. As Trump now seeks to build his regime NOW IS THE TIME TO ORGANIZE!!! Don't dispare organize!!
Without a weak left to defend in Clinton we can build a much stronger vision in opposition. Not easy but may actually be more powerful. Trump won the republican primary by telling some truths about trade, the Iraq war, Little Marco and boring JEB! The gloves are off, Trump proved the wishy-washy common lies of American politics are just that -lies so now it's time to paint even starker truths. Your voice is urgency needed this is now more than ever; a real fight for the future of our Florida and the entire world. Now we stand on the verge of something greater than a new election but a possible reshaping of American politics that require truth tellers like yourself to work harder than ever before to change "business as usual" in city hall and wash DC.

Keep up the great work educating all of us.

HRC won the "popular" vote only because of the preponderance of NewYork and California votes--other than those 2 densely populated leftist states, President Trump won both the popular and electoral votes. DMD

Ah it's a fact isn't it, the majority of Americans voted for HRC. Moreover Trump only won by convincing working class whites who had previously voted for Obama to surrport Trump this time in Pensyvania and other rust belt states. Hardly a conservative mandate, more like a vote against Republican orthodoxies like free trade and Wall Street deregulation. Let's get the facts str8
