There will be plenty of time for the Republican party to self-admit to a psychiatric ward or at least to answer the question: what went wrong in 2016, that Donald S. Trump became its candidate to be president of the United States?
For the time being, there is really only one solution to this Frankenstein-ish invention: to defeat Donald Trump at the polls in November so soundly, he never comes back to haunt U.S. politics.
Trump needed to show a measure of contrition, an iota of wisdom, a trace of humility at last night's presidential debate. He brought the only game he had, doubling-down on his liabilities.
Trump didn't grab Hillary by the pussy -- his inclination toward women caught on videotape eleven years ago that he now dismisses as "locker room talk". He did guarantee if elected president to throw her in jail. He was a wounded political animal lurking on stage from one canard to another.
If there are voters who are just now tuning in to the presidential election and genuinely undecided or willing to be persuaded, I highly recommend viewing (available, online) the PBS Frontline documentary, "The Choice 2016".
Frontline compares the different career paths of Trump and Hillary. What surprised -- perhaps I betray my age, here -- is how much we knew and forgot about Trump's well-publicized financial problems in the 1980's and 1990's.
The point is that Trump's business career was a disaster until he discovered he could make more money marketing his name than owning real property.
When Trump's real estate empire collapsed, allowing him to take deductions totaling nearly a billion dollars, the banks who held his debt decided he was too big to fail. Don't confuse that with success. As the documentary describes, the banks kept him alive because Trump's devalued assets were worth more if he was out fluffing their value up, than if they foreclosed on his mortgages and debt and had to find new suckers to buy them.
Last night, the only question was whether Trump would self-destruct on camera, and if he did -- what would that look like. What he accomplished was to turn the "Town Hall" into a reality TV-like cage where political and rhetorical savagery was on full display. I hope it is something we never have to see again.

When Al Gore shadowed Bush during the debate, it was big news. Trump was also over Hillary Clinton's personal space during the debate and there was not a word on that.
Having been confronted with domestic violence in the form of potential physical abuse, it bothered me that he would not sit down after he answered a question. Instead he paced back and forth around her, towering behind her as she answered questions, walking on the sides of her as she addressed issues. For me, these actions were very intimidating. Hillary pressed through it fearlessly. Then he did the unthinkable, he threaten to hurt her, by putting her in jail if he is elected. No, he could never be President.
That's one of the reasons we want him elected, to make sure she goes to jail.
Amazing that we both watch the same debate and came out With completely different take aways. Egos power and money combined in a drama that even Shonda Rhines would reject as too politically fanciful. Neither should be leaders of the free world and my only hope now is down ballot candidates to moderate the impact of crazy and crooked at the top of the ticket.
And speaking of Scandle Trump would do the fictional Olivia pope proud by how he handles damage control. With the tape that would've ended most campaigns his press conference an hour before the debate completely erased the issue making it virtually impossible for Hillary's people to complain about womanizers in the White House and in the process reminding us Hillary's hand in slut shaming Bubbas conquest.

I see an empire gasping for air, Obama got the upper hand with his hope and change. Now that this sorely needed change has escaped hope, many aggrieved citizens hoping for Drumpf to righten the ship of state.

If Obama had addressed the crimes committed by the previous administration, and from Day one put the republicans in their place, then the political landscape would be quite different today.
Instead he sought to "work" with them. You can not work with a opponent determined to wipe you out.

I'm sure it will be a stable on MSNBC for weeks....but it's value as a qualifier of fit to be president issue is moot and as to who holds the moral high ground it's like arguing it is better to murder someone with a gun or a knife.
Hillary fans will see Hillary's defense of Bubba as a admirable stand-by-your-man heroics others will see her as a political opportunist willing to make faustian bargains to advance her political ambitions.
You are so right about the psychiatric ward. Hillary now has a 14 point lead. Let's see how this debate got us there. Well, there is pussy grabbing; putting his opponent in jail; defense of Putin and Russia over hacking our election; praise of Assad; admission of not paying federal income taxes; and rebuke of his running mate over bombing Syrian civilians.
Then there were the lies again. Lies about him opposing the Iraq war; claimed he did not tell us to look at a sex tape at 3:00 am one morning; that Hillary would raise taxes; and on and on. The fact checkers will probably give us a whole page of them when they finish. I think the gap will be wider than 14 points when it is over. At some point, a few of his supporters will realize, he shot that person in the head in the middle of the street and killed him.
It is just driving progressives crazy that Trump has survived this long and is still alive and kicking. The Democrats are going to get a big November Surprise. President-Elect Trump.

You can count on David above, but my money is on Nate: crushing defeat for Trump. My pussy is angry and women don't take kindly to angry, grabbed body parts or locker room shit talk.
Given his.demeanor at this debate, I think that it should be the last one. He is a junk yard dog not befitting interaction with a woman of Hillary Clinton's caliber. With him pacing around, I was worried, and I am sure the Secret Service was nervous. I did not like the way he talked to her, the physical intimidation, the fact that he brought those women there, the threat to put her in jail. That kind of social discourse is unacceptable and way beyond generally acceptable behavior. The bar with him is too low. He should not be dignified with another debate. There is plenty of information out there, and she can attend many more events befitting a woman on her level. There are limits to socially acceptable behavior, and he has no limits.
Hillary is not a progressive, as she went to great lengths to plead in front of Goldman Sachs we have learned. Her anti-Russian and red-bating that she tried against Sanders is a tried true tact. However, her very presence at 1600 will ensure 4 years of huge profits at conservative groups. Rendering any progressive impulses dull defending a DLC Democrate.
The best outcome would be a Trump president and an overwhelming Liberal Democratic majority in the Congress that owed its arrival and survival to Sanders. Only this would ensure the change we need. Trump is not a conservative, he is a blowhard opportunist and a populist. Of such men the best and most progressive presidents are made.
You live in an alternative universe. People are going to vote for their best interests. Hillary is the only option!
