County Commission Chair Contenders, What the Gossips IN THE KNOW are Saying. By Geniusofdespair

Audrey Edmonson feels dissed by Chair Monestime and they had words on the dais. Perhaps other Commissioners feel her pain and will make her the Chair.

Nah, It is the Hispanic turn. Yes, the County Commissioners run a strict, albeit fair, racist enterprise, except to White non-Hispanics. The Blacks and Hispanics take turns being chair every two years. The two White Commissioners don't get a turn. They do get to be vice chair sometimes. There hasn't been a White Chair since Gwen Margolis. Funny when you consider the make-up of the county population in 2015 Census data, 4% separate Whites and Blacks but there are twice as many Black Commissioners.

Steve Bovo is the most likely choice. He has been being very nice to everyone, not the kind of nice he is to the pretty aides, just more polite. He is lobbying hard, minimizing the ethical lapses surrounding him.

This one, Joe Martinez wants to be Chair so bad. What a nightmare this guy is. Thank the lord he doesn't have a prayer this cycle and then he will have to wait for the Black Chair reign. I hope to never see this bully as chair ever again.

Why not the X man? County Commissioner Xavier Suarez is in the running with Bovo according to my gossip pals, although they feel Bovo is the favorite, they like Xavier Suarez's chances. The money is on him as well. I think he would be fair. He would be my choice.

Rebeca Sosa is a long shot, she was a very efficient chair last time except for the fatal flaw: Becky appointed Lynda Bell as her vice chair and Lynda Bell tried to out-chair Becky. That was a Big Mistake!

Oh Lord, this would never happen. Even the Commission is not that dumb, to make Pepe Diaz the chair. He is a chair....just there, taking up space, parroting the lobbyists, reading their scripts.

So, Sunshine out the window, they are all jockeying for the position,  buttering up the never will be -- offering them Committees and most probably candy. I would guess Godiva, not shitty, cheap candy.  Maybe they are offering expensive cologne like "The Commissioner." I am sure there is a warehouse somewhere full of the stuff. Check with Joe Martinez, its creator.

Never to be: Souto. That is one thing you can count on. I don't think Souto would even vote for himself. He will die senile in office...if he isn't already...senile. I know he is not dead because he still talks and we all know after 6 seasons of the Walking Dead, they do not speak once dead.

Well, who do you think it will be. Give us a guess. The winner will get a bottle of the Commish.

Well, Esteban Bovo is getting rid of all the heavy baggage that may cause him problems.. His Chief of Staff Alina Garcia just announced today she will be leaving his office tomorrow to (get this) go back to work for David Rivera's campaign! What an incestous triangle Bovo, Rivera and Rubio play. Bovo's wife works for Rubio, Alina Garcia and her daughter used to work for Rivera and Rubio has always supported Bovo. Confused? This is the same lady who helped Bovo through his absentee ballot stashing incident in 2012. God forbid we get this Einstein as Chair.

His philandering and flirting make him unacceptable. Bovo is a borderline thug unfit to serve as chair.

I hope the Commission sets an example and elects a chair worthy of the post. Someone we can be proud of. Mr. Suarez seems to have the right stuff. I never thought about this before. Thanks.

Great analysis.

Montestime is widely loathed by almost everyone on the dais. It's not just Audrey. She won't get it, either, because of protocol.

Bovo seems to indeed be the frontrunner. But not a done deal. Too much overt ambition. Ditto for Martinez.

Diaz, Souto, are the class clowns.

X-Man won't get it either. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, would want to sit through meetings he chairs for the next 2 years. They are horrified by the possibility.

However, I wouldn't rule out Daniella as a possibility, even though she is viewed as too close to Gimenez. The unions like her.

Sally will NEVER be chair, and it's not because she's a gringa. She is just awful to deal with.

Then there are the three desperation candidates. If the commission gets bogged down in infighting to the point where they have to appoint someone, anyone, there could be a consensus under durress vote for either Bruno, Sosa or even Moss.

All three have said publicly and repeatedly they don't want it. That just makes them more desirable. They also had mostly harmony under Sosa and Moss.

How could the County Commission select as its Chair an individual such as Bovo who just four years ago was caught up in an embarrassing situation when his close aide was detained for hoarding over 150 absentee ballots in Bovo's office? Are we naive enough to think he did not know about the scheme? Wake up Miami Dade residents, those ballots were for Gimenez and Rundle. Those ballots were collected by the Al Lorenzo machine. And now he is bringing us the Northwest Dade megamall which will practically have Palm Springs North, Royal Oaks and Miami Lakes citizens locked at home all day on the count of the terrible traffic. Lobby your commissioners, Bovo is all about more development and less quality of life.

Batista should be selected in perpetuity

Bovo is actually best positioned to become chairman. Whenever he has the gavel, he is warm and friendly to people. Sosa will support him because of the Marco ties. Souto will support him because of his Brigade 2506 ties to his father. Martinez will support him because he is a tool. Diaz will support him because of the Hialeah connection, and I am sure Pepe wants to consider invading foreign countries with his charm. Heyman will back him, because the Mayor's fundraiser Goldmeier will tell her to vote for Bovo. And then, Audrey follows Sosa down the path as usual. Done deal.

Alliances that we don't know about. Thank you for filling us in. Anyone else have a theory?

Here is what I think SHOULD go down. Sally Heyman will do the right thing and not support the crook. They have been disrespectful to her all these years. Levine-Cava will join her as well Monestime, Moss and Jordan and Xavier Suarez will vote for himself. If he can muster one Hispanic vote he will be the new chair. I know Bovo is on his best behavior but he is such a dead head on ethics and following the law.

I forgot Audrey Edmonson...she is the tipping point. They can do it in one ballot.

OMG, not Bovo. And Martinez? I can't even... He was the first commissioner i ever visited and my, oh, my i just can't. Now that we have Scott in play and his thug, Antonacci, I can't even imagine what winds that might give to Martinez's douchery... Whys is this guy even around anymore? Genius, make him go away!!!!

Has Bovo been charged with something or formally accused of anything?? It seems some are making these charges of ethics violations and being a crook, yet I don't know of any formal accusation. I mean you may not like his votes on some issues, but that doesn't make him corrupt. Its ok to call him and others on the board corrupt?

Ethics: absentee ballots found in his office... 'I know nothin' is a poor defense. What about the goils? The one who worked for Lynda Bell? Unethical probably, criminal probably not.

So something that happened 5 years ago, of which no charges against him and in fact the aide was given immunity and could have had him arrested if he did something wrong and that makes him corrupt? Unethical? Wow I would think it makes him choir boy on the board. Let's see Martinez bankruptcy, Diaz a drunk, Saurez his own AB issues in Miami, Cava a leftist, etc..... Have you ever interviewed him? Sat with him to discuss issues?

it's Bovo, he wants it and is viable. the X-man doesn't stand a chance. too unpredictable and sanctimonious in his own way. Should be Cava...but she's not hispanic.

Ref. above anon,
The only reason why Bovo's aide was given immunity was to help cover up her bosses absentee ballot fraud. Unless you have had your head buried in the sand for the last 10 years or are ill intended you know that immunity is given to lesser players to go after bigger fish. In his case, it was in reverse, an indictment of Bovo would have opened a Pandora's box for Katherine Fernandez Rundle since she was sharing the same campaign manager as Mayor Gimenez. Why do you fail to put the dots together. Have you forgotten about that much reported power meeting at a Hialeah warehouse attended by Carlos Hernandez, Bovo, Pizzi, Rene Garcia, et al? Is that not where the pie was cut to collect ballots for Gimenez and Rundle? Please, we know you want him elected so the corruption can continue but some of us don't buy your song and dance. Absentee ballots seized at a Commissioner's office! If this were anywhere else other than Miami Dade County Bovo would have been indicted by the law or tar and feathered by the citizens.

again no charges, despite immunity to a staffer, who should have gone to jail. What I hav seen is sold work by him on the board. I don't like all his votes, but on dolphin stadium, court house, zipper tower, transportation, term limits he has led the charge. He even made it possible for AB not to require a stamp, therefore killing the AB fraud business. I hope he gets it and I hope Genius reaches out and interviews him.
