Mayor Gimenez's finance chairman, chauffeur, and best bud is getting really, really rich -- millions and millions and Mayor Gimenez said in effect: "Wasn't me!"
Doug Hanks repoted Ralph Garcia-Toledo, Mayor Friend, Finance Director and Chauffeur, could make about $18 Million from a county contract with Water and Sewer. This is exactly why I voted for Raquel Regalado. Do you think the engineering company hired this guy for his expertise? The Mayor recommended the company Toledo is consulting for, for a contract. The Mayor shrugs it off: Wasn't me. “What he does, he does,” Gimenez said of Garcia-Toledo in June. “I let the process run its course.”
Reminds me of this Shaggy Song, watch the damn video (it is X rated but just a bit):

Great video, and it does sound like the mayor. Never heard Wasn't me before.
Mayor Gmenez made a big deal when he cut his salary from $300,000 to $150,000 four years ago.
What he didn't share was that his best friend then got a County contract that can earn him $18 million as a connected paper pusher.
Best friends share.
"A firm owned by the finance chairman of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez’s reelection effort could collect up to $18 million over 12 years for work on a 2014 county sewer-system contract, according to information released this week."
There is a mayor doing time in jail now for a water/sewer contract. I think it was Detroit, but I am not sure. But in that case the contract went to a company hiring a friend of the mayor, and when the friend got his share of the money, he split it up with the mayor. Lots of people in government and the private sector went to jail along with the mayor. I believe it was a federal case.
Influence peddlers.
Now you notice Gimenez's antics and corruption? Where was the outrage in 2012 when HIS campaign manager hired boleteras to collect absentee ballots from the mentally ill and the elderly? Where was the outrage when Gimenez disbanded the MDPD anti corruption unit and replaced it with his own brand of lackeys to cover up his corruption? You wanted Gimenez and you voted for him now eat him up with French fries and watch as he spends the next four years stealing from county contracts and giving away every piece of public land or benefit to private interests.

Today, a federal jury returned guilty verdicts against Kwame M. Kilpatrick, 42, of Southlake, Texas, and Bobby W. Ferguson, 44, of Detroit, on charges that they used Kwame Kilpatrick’s positions as mayor of Detroit and Michigan State House Representative to execute a wide-ranging racketeering conspiracy involving extortion, bribery, and fraud, United States Attorney Barbara L. McQuade announced. Bernard Kilpatrick, 70, of Detroit, was convicted of a felony tax offense.
McQuade was joined in the announcement by Robert D. Foley, III, Special Agent In Charge of the Detroit Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Randall Ashe, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Criminal Investigation Division; Richard Weber, Chief of IRS-Criminal Investigation; and Barry McLaughlin, Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-Office of Inspector General.
Kwame Kilpatrick was convicted of 24 counts extortion, mail fraud, tax violations, and racketeering, Bobby Ferguson was convicted on nine counts of extortion and racketeering and Bernard Kilpatrick was convicted of one count of filing a false tax return.
Co-defendants Victor Mercado, former director of the City of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, and Derrick Miller, former chief administrative officer of the City of Detroit, were also indicted as being part of the conspiracy, and both pleaded guilty to their roles and are waiting sentencing.
The jury deliberated for about 14 days before returning the verdicts, concluding a five-month long trial before United States District Judge Nancy G. Edmunds.
United States Attorney Barbara L. McQuade stated, “Although this investigation spanned many years, this case is not about the past. It is about the future. This verdict has sent a powerful message that corruption will not be tolerated in this community. The people of Detroit deserve better and expect better. Candidates should seek public office to make a difference, not to make money for themselves.”
2 above you are such a putz. Like Julio Robainia the shadow banker would have been better. We always seem to be voting for the lesser of two evils. Do me a favor go somewhere else to read. Come back with that sucky attitude and i wii have to happily delete you. Do you know what "don't attack the bloggers" means?
Delete at will Genius but get your facts straight. Gimenez's absentee ballot fraud occurred in 2012 rather than 2011. At the time Gimenez was running against Commissioner Joe Martínez not Julio Robaina. At the time The Herald, FDLE, and the FBI let Gimenez's campaign manager Al Lorenzo off the hook. They also permitted Commissioner Esteban Bovo to get off with a slap on the wrist. The MDPD tried but were stumped on by Gimenez's henchman Chip Iglesias. Not an attack on the blogger just recognizing that our citizens care little about Gimenez's recent history and just vote for the side that is winning.
Martinez is even worse than Robaina. Thanks Elaine arent you too busy to be hanging out here. Go do something else.
You are known by the friends you keep.
Giminez's friend are all lobbyists sucking the community dry.
The rest feeding at the county tit are his family.
How do you think he raised $4m for his campaign ?? ]Because he is such a great leader?
Perhaps because he feeds them and they in return feed him! Sort of like the problem solver Garcia-Toledo being worth $18m!
His free services to the mayor costing taxpayers plenty.
I'm sure they NEVER discussed Garcia -Toledo's deal when he was driving his highness around town or hanging out on the 29th floor. LOL
If Regaldo keeps him under 50% She will win as more and more info like the outrageous Garcia-Toledo story will be exposed. Let's hope it's not too late
Everytime Eye on Miami writes about Carlos Gimenez you must disclose that you have a Conflict Of Interest involving Raquelita Regalado. If you fail to disclose, then in my opinion you are corrupt.
Dont be a fucking moron. A blog is an editorial. It is not a newspaper. There are no conflicts , I am not getting paid for writing -- NEVER have been. I can write nice things about Raquel and the bad things I know about carlos without disclosing I like Raquel. That doesnt make me corrupt it makes me a blogger. Read the Herald or watch Fox News if you want Fair and balanced reporting. I am not married to her what is to disclose?. I have become a friend and supporter through interviews. This isnt a newspaper. THIS IS EDITORIAL --- ALL OPINION based on what we know or research. We dont have to argue both sides of the issue. Go read the Herald because I am not arguing with you anymore.
Kudos to you genius. Everything you said is spot on! There is so much more when it comes to hidden deals in the county. In fact, I can't remember a time where the county has lacked transparency like the Gimenez admistration. A conflict of interest would be if let's say Joe Carollo' would works on the Gimenez campaign, to do negative attacks on Raquel pays a certain blogger to create lies and stories about her and her dad. A conflict would be if the son of the Mayor goes around bragging if you want to do business with the county you have to hire him as a consultant. Garcia-Toledo is immersed in conflicts. He recently got divorced and got his financials sealed, even though the Florida Supreme Court has admonished courts/clerk of the courts ( especially in Broward County) for sealing what is otherwise public records. Oh, did I mention that Garcia-Toledo's wife's law firm represents the Miami-Dade county clerks office? Someone could easily challenge it in court and have those financial settlements made public.
Jesse Manzano has had conflicts from day one with his ties to Gimenez' cousin Loorente. And, let's not forget the nepotism that exists. Find out who Gimenez' chief of staff is related to. The entire Gimenez family tree has benefitted for back room deals.
Again, thank you genius for your accurate writings. Don't stop!
If you really have hope for Miami and want to have a future in Miami, we have to remove Gimenez. It requires voting. We can't sit on the sidelines and hope things work out. Take people to vote for Raquel. She will restore order in County Hall, hire qualified administrators to run departments, persuade state and federal agencies to assist us, and tap into all the smart, young talent we have in this town to build a bright future. We are at a crossroads, and it is time to reject the corrupt ways of Gimenez and follow a new leader. We need to rally behind her and make this happen. Send Gimenez and his cronies packing on August 30th...with the final eviction notice on November 8th.
