Don't Blame Becky! By Geniusofdespair

It is County Commissioner vacation time. Commissioner Sosa planned a cruise with her husband months in advance. When the meeting for Campaign Finance Reform was scheduled,  reported on yesterday by Gimleteye, Commissioners had to sign on -- at least 7 -- to have the meeting. Ms. Becky did not sign because she knew she couldn't make it because of the cruise. Those that signed for the Noon meeting were: Jordan, Monestime, Heyman, Suarez, Levine-Cava, Souto and Moss. The no-show Jordan was the reason there was no quorum. The Commissioners were given a choice of two times: 9:30 or Noon. Zapata was only signed on for the 9:30. The meeting had a sign-on quorum only for Noon.

So, if you want to blame anyone for lack of a quorum blame Barbara Jordan who had a last minute Dr.'s appointment. Don't know about the rest.  But you can't blame people for not showing up to a last minute scheduled meeting that they said they could not attend in advance. Becky is off the hook on this one.

My still favorite Becky moment, when she turned off the microphone for land-use Attorney Jeffrey Bercow mid-sentence. A true classic. Oh, I also liked it when she gave Eye on Miami credit for the fines imposed on absentee ballot collection (without a penalty on the law that existed, boleteras could not be arrested).

Who would seriously call for a meeting during their vacation? That is like a teacher doing a pop-quiz in the middle of summer break. Sounds like the organizers should have turned in the signatures before the commissioners went on vacation.

True, the yuppie, hipster, millennial organizers have a lot to learn. Duh. Didn't they think to do a head count? Knock on doors?
