Ross Hancock: A man with a bright idea! |
As Ross Hancock walks Rep. District 115 (currently held by Republican Mike Bileca), rather than distribute a useless trinket like a hat or t-shirt to voters he is giving out LED bulbs.
He said about the bulb idea:
I intend to distribute 10,000 LED bulbs in District 115 prior to the election. Each 9-watt LED bulb replaces a 75-watt incandescent bulb. Over the rated 18-year life of the bulbs, at three hours a day, more than 12 million kilowatt-hours will be saved. Along with air conditioning savings (because LED bulbs run much cooler), my humble efforts will result in a projected electricity and bulb replacement savings of about $2 million for the residents of our district. His opponent, Mike Bileca has voted for fracking and guns on campuses, and against Medicaid expansion and normalization with Cuba. He single-handily defeated a bipartisan HIV-prevention program for needle exchange in Miami-Dade.
Hancock brands himself as an “independent Democrat” and has more than $100,000 to spend appealing to independents in a district that slightly favors Republicans. He focuses on the environment and avoids controversy. He points out that Charlie Crist and Alex Sink won Bileca’s district in the last two gubernatorial races, thanks to progressive-leaning independent voters.
Hancock has researched Bileca extensively. He carries a looseleaf binder with every committee and floor vote that Bileca has cast since 2010. He has tabbed what he calls “the Grinch votes,” reflecting a man with a small heart. These include votes against school recess, against HIV prevention, healthcare for the impoverished, even against bears. Bileca's voting pattern earned him an A+ (103%, “Champion of Economic Freedom”) from the head Grinches: the Koch brothers' Americans for Prosperity group.
Hancock has union backing of the Fla AFL-CIO. He faces chiropractor Doc Solomon in the primary, a fellow Democrat.

Go ROSS HANCOCK. I certainly hope this is his year.
Vote HANCOCK.
Oh and also vote for DAISY BAEZ!
Can I add that our campaign is also endorsed by the United Teachers of Dade? Thanks, Ross.
Nice thought, but a violation of ethics laws, because it has retail value of significance - $6.50 - and his campaign is not identified on the product. Buying votes... Just saying?
Statutory limit is $10, and the bulb is packaged in plastic with a legal campaign disclosure.
And it says that where?

Nothing about his campaign is on the actual product, like his name. A problem...
You can give out golf balls it is in the treasurers handbook... Easily having a similard value. These bulbs a very cheap now. He has his campaign info posted on the bag it is in. Stop grasping at straws what are you an FPL dick?
He's cutting into our profits.
His name would have to be printed in the balls - or the bulbs. Just a fact of ethics.
See what happens when the idea is so original and taps into a true need - unlike a golf ball - the detractors shred it. That makes me even more of a fan of Mr. Hancock. Thank you for thinking smart!

Saving the voters $2 million in power bills makes this possibly the largest bribe in Florida's history.
Ross is nice person but too much of a single issue candidate and doesn't live in this district (doesn't have too for now) but for Ds I think Doc Solomon gives us the strongest candidate in November against BILEca.
Doc Solomon has lived in the district for many years and he knows his district well. He understands and supports all of the issues of a Progressive Democrat he is the candidate that can flip Bileca out of his seat!
Doc Solomon is weak.
Solomon is a ditz. hancock is serious.
I have never seen Solomon as anything but loosey goosey... He kinda strikes me as a surfer without a wave.
He is never anywhere I go when I go to community functions except when he is campaigning.
Good luck Ross. I am behind you 100%.
Pat Wade
This article isn't about who is most qualified. It doesn't even address that. It's just about an interesting way that I am trying to educate voters and maybe help save energy while doing so. So there is no reason to personally attack Doc Solomon here.
