This is what happens when you are haunted by remorse for the millions of dollars in tax monies you helped give away to lobbyists and contsultants in exchange for favors. Our past two mayors have not fared too well. The jury is still out on the current one.
Alex Penellas allowed more sleazy lobbyists to invade South Florida than any other politician. Do not forget it was Alex who sold out Bicentennial Park and gave billionaire Arison a sweet heart deal on our waterfront. Alex should have been indicted.
Several of the corrupt contractors that were the recipients of Penelas' largesse were indicted, but Alex was not brought to account. I don't know why we see so few public corruption cases in Miami with the generous selection of deserving politicians, lobbyists and such.
Penelas now has his son following in his sleazy footsteps...the boy is working for the Gimenez Campaign! Nothing like learning the ropes of procurement corruption from the current King of Sleaze, Carlos Gimenez.
Alex allowed future lobbyists Brian May, Ric Katz and Francoise Illias and many others to spawn. They all went on to represent criminals, mining companies, billboard companies, sleazy contractors... What a negative indictment.

Would never have recognized him. He looks gaunt and unwell.

Yes the regret. no One squandered as much political capital as Alex Penelas. Except maybe Marco Rubio.

alex has a remarkable number of former staff working as non-profit managers, staff and directors.... I think that speaks well for them.
Appears to me Alex is fighting some illness......
