BARF SUNDAY. By Geniusofdespair

I have never been in such despair over politics.

$33 a bottle. It flopped.

County Government: Joe Martinez might sail back on to the County Commission In District 11 unless Felix M. Lorenzo can pull off a miracle with his $2,100 campaign fund. Juan Zapata left the race too late for a credible candidate to enter. Joe Martinez was poison on the Commission. It was a happy day when County Commissioner Joe Martinez ran for Mayor because it got him off the County Commission. He lost that, so he tried for Congress. He lost that now he is back running for the County Commission. He is so clueless and egocentric he actually produced a cologne called THE COMMISSIONER. Really!

The only good thing about him being back, I will have a lot to write about. Without Natacha Seijas and Joe Martinez, the pickings have been slim for me. How many times can you write about Pepe Diaz or a rant by Javier Souto?

Everyone in District 11: Vote for Felix M. Lorenzo not the little dictator.

Little dictator's Congressional campaign was a big bust.
Then on the Federal Level we have Donald Trump. Not much else to say on that: Just ick.

Walls! Borders! Hate Muslims! Bla Bla Bla!!! Have you seen my Poll Numbers?

And, we have the threat of the worst Governor EVER Rick Scott running for Senate and the reality of Marco Rubio running for Senate. Woof!

On the County Mayor race, Columnist Fabiola Santiago suggests that Mayor Gimenez should wear a body camera because of his back-room deals. Really a very good idea, she claims (rightfully):

Yet, when it comes to potential conflicts of interest and back-door dealing, the mayor has a blind spot.He delivers done-deals like the megamall-theme park boondoggle in Northwest Miami-Dade to a spineless county commission that rubber stamps instead of properly vetting community-altering projects. His developer friends line up for tax incentives (aka corporate welfare) and get them despite promises to voters that there aren’t any, as in the SkyRise Miami giant steel hairpin.

But nothing quite captures the mayor’s peculiar sense of what’s fair game as well as the richly textured portrait of Gimenez’s relationship with his re-election finance chairman, Ralph Garcia-Toledo, a veteran county contractor, by Miami Herald county hall reporter Douglas Hanks. It’s a classic, required reading on how county government operates behind the scenes.

So it goes another Sunday of barfing as you voters vote again and again for the unthinkable, the worst of the worst.

More on Felix Lorenzo....

He could be a sofa, and I would still vote for him...Here is what he writes about his campaign, he is a tax phobia, that should appeal to many:

I am running for the position of Commissioner of Miami Dade County, District 11. I’m asking for your vote and would like you to ask your family and friends to vote for me as well.
Why am I doing so? I am the only candidate in this district who is politically independent and have NEVER been affiliated with any political party. Beside that I do not have any obligations to any institution, industry or lobby. My obligation is to all of you who live and work and study in district 11.
Your concerns are my concerns. Your aspirations are my aspirations. Your hopes are my hopes and like you I sense a different mood this year. We do not need to be reconciled to an inferior quality of life, mediocre solutions, or to the idea that things in government will never get better. I believe we can come out of these difficult times stronger than before and that we can make the bold decisions needed to do so.

This is my political platform and I promise to work hard to:

1. REPRESENT YOU AS THE COMMISIONER OF DISTRICT 11 (ONE WHO WILL NOT HAVE CONFLICTS OF INTEREST)
2. STOP THE CREATION OF TWO NEW CITIES WITHIN DISTRICT 11 (MORE GOVERNMENT = MORE TAXES)
3. STOP THE PROPOSITION TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE AREA TO “WEST END NORTH” AND “WEST END SOUTH” (IT DESTROYES OUR IDENTITY)
4. STOP THE INSTALLATION OF RED LIGHT CAMERAS IN THE COUNTY (ANOTHER HIDDEN TAX)
5. STOP THE INCREASE OF COUNTY DEBT (NOW AT MORE THAN $28 BILLION)
6. ALLOCATE TRANSPORTATION TAX MONEY EQUITATIVELY FOR ALL THE CITIZENS OF THE COUNTY AND USE IT ONLY FOR TRANSPORTATION
7. DEMONSTRATE HONESTY AND TRANSPARENCY BY PUBLISHING FROM DAY ONE HOW THE DISTRICT 11 COMMISIONER’S OFFICE BUDGET IS SPENT ($922,000 IN 2015-2016)
This is our opportunity to break free of the status quo that keeps us from implementing effective solutions to our most urgent problems. Elections do not need to be about changing faces while little else changes, they are an opportunity to bring in candidates who are committed to you and to you alone.
As always, the power of decision is entirely in your hands. Your vote is important and each vote contributes to making a difference. VOTE FOR FELIX M. LORENZO FOR MIAMI DADE COMMISSION DISTRICT 11!
FELIX M. LORENZO,
P. O. BOX: 653253, MIAMI, FL 33265

Joe Martinez looks like Tony Shalhoub, the actor who played Monk. Maybe Tony wears The Commissioner colongne?

Commissioner zapata did the community a diservice by leaving after qualification. I am very disappointed in him. He is a quitter handing Martinez an unearned win on a silver platter. I don't want the quitter back.

Is it my immagination or is Fabiola sounding more like you?

I have to wonder what would make Zapata withdraw after qualifying. Talk about giving a massive middle finger to the people who supported him. Now we are stuck with the worst commissioner for the area who wants nothing more than move the UDB and will be a consistent yes vote of Gimenez and the insider deals with our tax dollars.

Nice hit piece by some malcontent. Tell us how Commissioner Zapata is any better than Martinez when he tried to stick us with a $30k bill for a training course at Harvard and only paid for it when questioned by the media? And how about that attempt to create a new city called West End and the push to set up a little empire complete with a new tier of bureaucrats and new taxes? Don't take my word for it. Take a look at Zapata's $150k campaign contribution account. Every developer, engineer and contractor in this county is listed rhere. Do you honestly think they wanted to preserve the UBD line? Martinez may not be an ideal candidate but he is certainly a better choice for our district than Zapata.

take look at martinez's campaign report ... it is awful. I lived through martinez's last reign... he was absolutely EGO driven and did not give a shit about the constituents, in fact, he ran over us by lying and then pushing his developer agenda which is not what he told us.

Zapata is a thousand times better than Martinez. All commissioners in the past had tuition bills paid for by the county, and COUNTY jobs for their spouses. Pepe Diaz had his fat reducing operation paid for by the county. Don't single out Zapata. Congratulate him for wanting to be smarter. And I have looked at the reports of both Martinez and Zapata, and Martinez's PAC. Zapata was way better. Stop the character attack of Juan because he is gone.

Pepe Diaz underwent surgical bypass surgery while at Sweetwater.
And YES, the Harvard program was offered to Department Directors and Deputy Directors.

Joe Martinez is terrible. If Zapata respected his constituents he would have quit before the filing deadline. Quitting AFTER the filing deadline meant no one qualified could come forward. Two creeps.

If we had a local newspaper that cared about this community instead of The Miami Herald, then our citizens would not be so misinformed.
On June 14, 2016, during the course of the monthly SPAGO meeting at the commission chamber, Commissioner Zapata attempted to introduce a resolution calling for a countywide special election to be held on November 8, 2016, "for the purpose of submitting to the electors of Miami-Dade County the bond referendum question whether to approve issuance of General Obligation "mini-bonds" for purpose of funding Capital Improvement Projects, New Recreational Facilities, Green way and Trail for Miami-Dade County". The resolution called for the voters to approve $300 million in mini-bonds. The resolution was immediately challenged by Commissioner Sousa who called it "a disguised attempt to raise taxes". Commissioner Zapata denied his intentions were to "raise taxes"; however, he quickly pulled the item when reminded by the county attorney that indeed a resolution for mini bonds would result in higher taxes for the citizens of Miami-Dade county.
This incident brings up an interesting scenario. Did Commissioner Zapata attempt to raise our taxes with a new mini bond resolution or did he not understand the bond process and as such is either naive or unable to fulfill the duties of his office? Too bad no reporter bothered to ask him that question but if interested in seeing the exchange for yourself you may review the SPAGO agenda item No. 2E for June 14, 2016 or you can watch the archived committee meeting and make up your own mind.

I If you really want to defeat JM, send some money to Mr Lorenzo, even $25.
Mr Lorenzo is a spightly, refined, well spoken gentleman with good instincts.
He will defend the UDB and work for rational growth. He is intelligent and has
led a responsible and respectful life. He is a retired pharmaceutical representative
and is married with two adult sons. Support him now; July 26 is the filing date
for new contributions.
