Jockeying for State Senate and Rep Seats. By Geniusofdespair

Total Registered Voters for State Senate District 38: 228,121
Whites : 68,221
Blacks: 72,027
Hispanics: 70,415
Others:2,309
Super Voters in this Democratic district: about 50% Black
(This is the seat that Gwen Margolis resigned from - See Map)
Front Runner in Democratic District 38: Daphne Campbell (a State Representative) who has been the worst Democrat in State Government - Maybe in History

What Redistricting did: Everyone is running for office at the State level. It is mayhem. Some candidates are moving from district to district like musical chairs. Others are newbies -- never having held ANY office (Donald Trump style) but going for the top slot: State Senator. They are skipping everything else, like experience (i.e. Lauren Book, Andrew Korge, Jason Pizzo). I have been a political wonk and environmentalist for 20 years and I have never heard of some of the candidates running and neither have my political savvy friends. They have never been active in the community. Then there are those candidates that have run for office at multiple levels of government and lost. The State races are a complete mess. We have learned, by watching Rich Guy, Mayor Phillip Levine Govern Miami Beach - how clueless a newbie politician can be and dangerous to the environmental health of the County. And, for all your information candidates: Saying you support an action plan on climate change/sea level rise does not give you environmental creds. Phillip Levine supports this, and his action plan is pumping polluted water from Miami Beach's flooded streets into our pristine aquatic preserve -- as he bashes our most respected scientists and their studies on the water's quality.

Excuse me, I am going to barf. Really, I am heartsick about our future here in Miami Dade County. Today I am in despair.

20 years and you're just figuring out what a cluster phuck it is? I ran my first campaign in college in 1972.. IT's always been a combination of hubris, the back room deals with the usual sprinkling of full on crackpots and the public still couldn't care less.. 99.9% couldn't tell you on a bet who their legislator is and they could care less...But We will survive..

Our system of electing people has some major problems. Name recognition often elects people who are beholden to special interests and donors. Money seems to buy some elections. The voting public seems to vote people into office that don't represent them on quality of life issues. Voters need to be educated to support candidates that will work for improving the community as a whole, not the few who only seem to have profit motives. Until this changes, we seem to be stuck with the status quo of poor representation.

Unfortunately, I think Daphne will win Gwen's old district. I hope not but I think she will.

Sally Heyman could win this seat.

Sally or Daphne??? Those are choices? Sounds more like the punchline to a bad joke. Dumb and crooked. Come to think of it sounds like the presidental race.

Sally is a loyal Dem and votes her conscience.

I definitely think that what this state really needs are spawns of uber lobbyist in the Senate ......it can't get any worse

Sally, oh please. She is just a younger, loonier version of Gwen. Same sense of entitlement, same soft racism, elitism. Both voted dozens and dozens of times for their well-connected buddies at County Hall and in Tallahassee.

People are unwilling to make the commitment to serve. They want others to do the heavy-lifting and they just ride on the backs of those who decide to take on the burden of leadership. Anytime we get a half-way decent person who will make the personal sacrifices in terms of time, money, family, psyche, etc., and try to help us, we need to support them. If we didn't have some people with egos we would be in bad shape.
